I wanted a light, quick rom com for a crazy busy week. It kind of delivered? I wanted it to follow a more conventional storyline than it did. The character development in the last quarter seemed to come out of nowhere to me.
12/16/2020. A really fun book to listen to :) about a Muslim American woman searching for love and... maybe not finding exactly what she anticipated, but definitely finding a lot of love. The last 3 hours of the audiobook were the most engaging for me, but the whole book was a bright spot in these dreary covid Christmas days.
Listened to on Libro.fm, where every audiobook purchase supports an independent bookstore of your choice.
Started out being about a woman who wants to find a husband fast before her parents can find her one. But ended up being about finding herself.
This was a light, fast read, which was both what I needed and about all I could handle after yesterday‘s migraine and the medication hangover today. Disappointed in the ending, but it made sense to the rest of the book, so I‘ll let it go. At 9 1/2 hours for #24b4Monday. ☺️
I really wanted to like this book, but couldn‘t get past the whining main character. I think I‘m too old to find sympathy for a 26 year old who lives rent free in her parent‘s house while she works part time.
This book promised me romance of Bollywood proportions, which I happen to LOVE. I was hyped for it. And it *almost* delivered. But then out of left field, feminism! I am woman, hear me roar. Or mew. Don't get me wrong, I love a strong independent protagonist who bucks the stereotype and lives her truth but when the beginning of the book promises terrible lyrical expressions of love and dancing in the rain then it should deliver! Still a cute book.

Work has been so busy lately that I feel like I am running on fumes so I really #cherish a little #metime when I can unwind. Of course a gorgeous view of the bay, cold brew coffee with coconut milk, avocado toast with spicy garlic aioli & a book are cherished parts of my Saturday morning as well. This book doesn‘t have much love but it‘s a library e-book so I‘m going in to see what I think. Happy Saturday Everyone! 🌺
“Sometimes the scene ends with just us, on our own, picking up the broken pieces so that we can start over again. Sometimes it‘s letting go of cultural expectations in order to pave our own paths for the future. Or sometimes, the happy ending is simply moving forward.”
The carrier pigeon has arrived! Got my next set of #tailoredbookrecommendations today, and I‘m looking forward to these. A little concerned about the miserable Litsy rating on the tagged book, but it is one of the books I bought on #bookstoreromanceday a few weeks ago. A.J. Fikry has been on my radar for a while, and this could be just the push I need to finally read it. Elif Shafak is new to me, but the book looks good. Fingers crossed!
Leila has three months to find herself a husband before her parents get to find him for her. For most of the story, as she‘s trying to find “the one,” Leila seems immature and judgmental. Of course, she does grow and learn through her experiences—but this only leads to an ending that, to me, felt abrupt and unsatisfying. I get it, but as a romance lover, I was disappointed.
#Booked2019: Muslim author or MC
#BookishBingo: Borrowed from the library
This is the first time in MONTHS that I've been able to read a book in one sitting & it felt good.
I didn't like this as much as I expected to. I just couldn't warm up to the MC. She seemed really petulant & immature; more like a sullen teenager than a woman in her mid-twenties. Her snap judgments & expectation that she would have a romance straight out of Bollywood annoyed me by the end of the book. I'm torn about the end. See spoilers below. ⬇️
I have a day to myself and I'm starting this. 😊
Tbh, I‘m a happily ever after kind of gal, but I enjoyed the book and the ending. This was funny and I liked that she went from in realistic to realistic. I read this in a day while sitting by the pool!
I so wanted/expected to adore this book. Unfortunately, rather than a 26-year-old teacher, the main character came across as an immature, whiny early teen. There were glimmers of good in a couple of short interchanges with secondary/tertiary characters and in some descriptions of Indian Muslim traditions. Overall, it was really unpleasant.
🎉IT‘S NEW BOOK DAY!🎉 Here are some of today‘s new books! There are several more out today that I am excited about, including Jade War by Fonda Lee, The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep by H. G. Parry, Skulls! by Blair Thornburgh, The Possession by Michael Rutger, My Friend Anna by Rachel DeLoache Williams, Because Internet by Gretchen McCulloch, and Screen Tests: Stories and Other Writing by Kate Zambreno. What are you excited to read? 📚❤️📚
The Marriage Clock was such a delightful book to read. This seems to be the year of arranged marriage books. But I found this one different from books like Unmarriageable and Ayesha at Last.

Thank you NetGalley and William Morrow Paperbacks for an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book, for an honest opinion.
A young Indian woman must find herself a husband in three months or her traditional Indian parents will matchmake one for her.

Started my rainy Sunday by going out to a kickass brunch with my sister and cousin, then I curled up on my couch the rest of the afternoon with this cute #netgalley arc!
The book was okay, I thought the cultural aspects of Leila‘s struggle to find a husband differently than her parents would were compelling but the plot itself was just a little thin. Overall a fun diverse romance read to look forward to in July!
