This was good. I have seen the movie, but I don‘t think much time was spent on Lionel‘s life. The book actually did spend more time on Lionel than the movie did. In addition to Bertie/King George‘s life. Mark used many letters between the two men to write this biography.

While I did end up enjoying this book overall and do give it a pick and did learn a lot, I found it kind of dry in places and caught myself skimming occasionally. Probably one of the rare times where I think I enjoy the movie more than the book.

Relate! Read in one sitting.
This book was touching. The friendship between Bertie and Logue is nice.
I could relate to Bertie because I also have a speech defect.

I usually do not like when the cover of a book features the movie. However, I‘m gonna let it slide this time. COLIN FIRTH!!!!

Samplergal One of my favorites. 7y

It's a story that is very inspiring for stutterers and speech therapists. If you're a speech pathologist then you need to read this. I just want to be like Logue. Helping the King and other people with speech defects is not just a job for him but something that makes him happy. Being a speech pathologist is fulfulling. You'll also fall in love with the characters especially the King.

This was a good, quick read. Like most people (I assume), I picked this up based on having seen the excellent film. As with most bio pics, the real story of these two men spanned more years than presented in the film. This was largely based on Lionel Logue's correspondence and notes, which really gave a nice sense of the man. The actual audio clips of the King's speeches were a nice touch for the audiobook. An interesting, worthwhile read.

This is a wonderfully written account of the working and personal relationship between Lionel Logue and King George VI. Written using Lionel's diaries, archives, and correspondence between himself and the King, it is an amazing insight into this period of British history.

Definitely recommended for anyone interested in reading about speech and language therapy or the British monarchy, and anyone who enjoyed the film!

Included in this book are beautiful pictures of the Logue family, the Royal family, and of the correspondence between the two. What I love about this particular picture, is that it was gifted to Lionel on Christmas Day 1937 by the King. Lionel had been the King's speech therapist for over a decade at this point, and was highly regarded.

Loving this so far, but at pg147 I am retiring for the night. To be continued!

Amazing how he was able to achieve so much using experimental techniques. Much kinder techniques.
An interesting insight into elocution and speech therapy so far! (Only 31 pages in 😱)

Bookworm54 @tpixie @BookishMarginalia @TheSpinecrackersBookClub I love Colin Firth, and his portrayal of King George in this film was beautiful! The book includes a lot more about Lionel's life before and after the events of the film, and so far is very interesting ☺️ 8y
