I wasn‘t sure what to expect from this Classical Chinese work. I wanted to read it cause I‘d heard Confucius was essential to understand China and I read a short introduction once that didn‘t feel deep enough. While very gnomic and containing so many layers of meaning that I see why people have been writing about this for millennia, this was a lot more readable than I expected and it made me think a lot. Very approachable translation and notes
Reading The Analects was difficult because I didn‘t understand its cultural or historical relevance. I spent some time looking into its history & this helped me to understand how important it is to read this as an historical document.
Historical documents aren‘t usually the most exciting reads, but I gained a greater understanding, &, I hope, appreciation for an aspect of world history.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this, @SerialReader !

Loved my fortune from last night‘s fortune cookie!
I'm enjoying the Analects, and finding many sayings to ponder, but I know I should buy a copy with a good introduction and explanatory notes in order to truly appreciate this classic work. Maybe someday... But for now, #SerialReader is a great way to break the sayings up into manageable chunks and get acquainted with the work! #litsyclassics #letterA Have any of y'all read this?
Not pictured: a hot cup of Jasmine Romance green tea. 😊
I'm loving my three current #litsyclassics reads on #SerialReader, each for very different reasons! #letterA has intriguing philosophical thoughts, #letterY has a suspenseful sci fi plot, and #letterZ has lovely descriptions and dramatic characters! #SerialReader is extra perfect this year, since my phone is in airplane mode for the year! So when I don't have wifi, all I can do on it is read! 🤗
Read is healthy for you 😋📖📚📚
I have always wanted to learn more about Confucius (but I did totally buy this book because of its beautiful cover!) Don't judge me!!! 😳
I figured it was time I show you the reason for the "Sew" in "SewItGoes"! I made this last week for my desk at work. :) (The quote I think is Obama referencing Confucius but either way it's a favorite.)
To be wealthy and honored in an unjust society is a disgrace.
