A quick enough read but depressing and inconclusive. Mary‘s grandmother is killed for accused witchcraft. Her mother (who she never knew) sends her to the New World to escape persecution. Persecution finds her anyway but she‘s able to escape. Pretty amazing how the Puritans find anything unfortunate in life to be blamed on witchcraft.
"My grandmother taught me to read auguries, and to me the sign is not so clear. The lights spanned the whole of the sky, from east to west, west to east. Where would the death and destruction fall? On the world we have left, or the one we sail toward?"
I love learning new words: AUGURY: a sign of what will happen in the future; an omen.
Also, good on audiobook ??
Just started the tagged book today. Thoughts?

This YA historical fiction was quite enjoyable. A young girl and her grandmother are chastised for practicing midwifery. The story is told through diary entries of the girl and her viewpoint of the Puritans and the world around her was detailed and made for a wonderful read.

Day 17 of @Andrew65 's #Top20series #20series20days challenge
This was one of the first 'proper' books I read from the library as I progressed into teenage books.
I may have purchased recently the 20th anniversary version of Witch Child 🤭🤫 as it had such a pretty cover 😍 (not released till 3rd September) but as it is such a significant book in my reading life I thought it was worth it. 📚 📖
I am using the tagged book for June's prompt for my #ReadingwithMaja challenge.
This book was one of my favourites as I transitioned from children's books to teenage books and one of the first to really grab me and harvest my love of reading. It was great rereading this as it took me back to that time of discovering that books could take me out of my world and into another and could make me think about them for days after.
@maich
Very good. Even though this is a YA book alot of the themes are adult so it can be read universally. Love rereading this as the last time was when I was a teenager and it still is one of my favourites just as it was back then. Set during the witch trials in both England and America.

Starting a new Audiobook while I fix breakfast for my family. Happy Sunday!
I thought this was pretty slow overall. There have been much better Salem accounts. I'll read the next one but only because I already own it.
Yay for relaxing in a pool! Also, being pretty book monogamous right now, I usually hop around a few different books at the same time but I‘m really enjoying this one!

I bought these at Goodwill a while back solely based on their book covers... anyone read them? They sound really good!

Some of my favorite buzzwords. I want to make some lists of books that I‘ve enjoyed and books that I want to read that fall into these categories.
I loved this book so much that I want to read more like it
Loved this book! Read it years ago and I‘m planning to re-read over #ChristmasBreak. The second book is also very good. It‘s called Sorceress and I will post it too.
A young girl escapes the persecution of the people in her small town when her grandmother is accused of being a witch and hung. Her escape brings her to the colonies where she fosters with a childless family and tries to conceal her unusual gifts.
This HF novel follows a young girl‘s diary in 1659, whose grandmother is hanged after being accused of being a witch. She manages to escape, herself, but staying out of the eyes of the Puritans proves difficult. This would be an excellent story for LC, IR, PR, and AS.

The first book that came to mind for #Waterfalls 🤷🏼♀️
Part of the book takes place by a waterfall. I don't think a lot of it does though... regardless this is a great YA book, and contains a waterfall somewhere 🤣🤣🤣
