Okay, final review for this morning (whew!) -

I have had this thriller on my TBR for a few years now and overall found it pacey and engaging. I really liked the format and short, snappy sections that kept me reading, although getting both Fi and Bram's perspectives at the same time did sometimes mean I had trouble remembering what Fi did and didn't know. Bram is a total disaster but somehow I still liked him. Candlish does a great job making ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) him weak, not bad, which means that while he is frustrating and everything that happens is definitely is own fault, he's still a somewhat sympathetic character. I will say that the very ending of this book honestly brought down my enjoyment of it overall, and I'll put why in the spoilers below. Overall, though, a really engaging read.

TheAromaofBooks I guess it just made me sad that Bram's final big effort to do the right thing and to make Fi's life better was just going to end up being another huge screw up that would actually ruin her life. I wasn't mad that Fi killed Mike and felt like (a) it was justified and (b) she really was temporarily insane with all the revelations coming at her, and the fact that Bram's final confession is going to screw up her perfect alibi just... I wanted Bram ⬇ 2y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) to have this final redemption, to have at least ONE THING in his life, one attempt to do the right thing, be something that turned out right, and it felt like Candlish decided he couldn't even have that, that even in this final moment we had to emphasize what an absolute screwup Bram was 100% of the time, and since I actually did kind of like Bram, that writing choice felt like an unnecessary knife in the back for poor Bram. 😕 2y

I struggled to get through this one. I wasn‘t a fan of the way it was structured and didn‘t feel very invested in any of the characters.

Read this quite quickly as it was a loan of a loan! Whilst I thought it quite predictable, I was wrong!!!
Great ending!!

We have arrived! It was a journey! (We were turned away from the border on Friday and had to hang out 2 days in Maine waiting on COVID test results.) But now we are here. We bought my parents' place so already feels like home. And we have a beautiful view! Just gotta unpack.

batsy Yay! What a view 😍 Happy unpacking! 3y
Cathythoughts Oh how beautiful!! Good luck to you all 😘 3y
TrishB Good luck. That is a fantastic view 😁 3y

merelybookish @kspenmoll Thank you! It's been something I've wanted for a while. Can't quite believe we did it! 3y
Centique Wow this is so exciting! Is it the home you grew up in or one your parents bought later on? 3y
merelybookish @Centique It was our summer cottage when we were kids and then my parents turned it into a year-round home about 10 years ago. They were getting ready to sell it (as it's a bit.much for people in their 80s) and I was devestated. My husband suggested that we buy if and here we are!. 3y
Centique @merelybookish how wonderful! That is a dream come true 😍 It would make a lovely story I reckon if you ever fancy writing it 💕 3y

Mehso-so

Candlish‘s novel earns a so-so because while the mystery itself was intriguing, the story dragged in areas that created a meandering plot. I loved the twists. I loved the mystery, it‘s one that I haven‘t read before and it pulled me in. The switching narrative allowed for additional information but felt like the story was being repeated instead of moving forward.

This was the twisty, suburban rich people behaving badly book I had hoped Good Neighbors would be. I read 85% of this on Friday and then “lost” my Kindle in the bedding 🙄 so couldn‘t finish it until now. 👍🏼

vivastory I'm definitely going to read this, but I read the plot summary & laughed bc I'd have to be on a very very long vacation in order for someone get rid of my books before I returned home 📚📚📚📚 4y
MicheleinPhilly @vivastory Oh they would definitely give up at my house. “Not worth it! Let‘s move on!” 4y
LeahBergen @MicheleinPhilly @vivastory They‘d sustain such a back injury if they tried at my house. 😆 4y
Hooked_on_books You must have some serious bedding! 😆 4y
MicheleinPhilly @Hooked_on_books It is rather fluffy. But I am also notorious for doing the most cursory of searches. “Did you even look? Did you REALLY look?” is a common refrain. 😬 4y

Updating my #BookSpinBingo board and I realized that I‘ve actually finished 5 books. I‘m just over half way thru the tagged book, but the intense blackmailing is giving me anxiety, so it‘s taking me a while to get through it. It‘s so so good, but so freaking intense. 😂 Hoping to finish it during my shift tonight.

Listened to the tagged audiobook for the #NetGalleyReviewathon and #BookSpinBingo while I worked on another spooky Halloween DIY. I can‘t wait for it to dry so I can paint it, and get it up on the fireplace mantel! 😍

Clwojick @VeganCleopatra too funny! I just found him on YouTube a couple of days ago, but I found an image on Pinterest earlier in the year knew I had to recreate it. I had just picked up the supplies and then I seen that he recreated it too. 😂 4y
VeganCleopatra So weird when things like that happen! Do you have other Halloween diys planned? I probably watch too much diying on YouTube. 😬 Do you have any favs on there? 4y
Clwojick I don‘t normally watch diy projects on YouTube, but recently got into a few channels that focus on dollar store DIYs, and personalized wall art. Lone Fox and XO, Macenna are the only two I can think of. Do you have any suggestions for me? 😱 @VeganCleopatra 4y
VeganCleopatra Sorry for the delay! I guess off the top of my head I'd say Rachel Metz, DIY with Danie and The Sorry Girls. They all tend towards bigger projects though. 4y

Tricky! I was kept on my toes by this book and there were several points along the way that I didn‘t see coming. I will say that the overall premise was different from what I thought from the blurb on the back. It‘s not a psychological drama, like a gaslighting situation. People DO believe Fiona when she claims she used to live there. The mystery is how did her house come to be sold without her knowledge, and that takes 400 pages to unravel!

LiteraryinPA So for those who have read the book: I‘m confused about the end! I keep thinking I get it and then changing my mind. 5y
BekaReid You've completely piqued my interest with this one! 5y

What would you do if you came home from work to find someone else had moved into your house? Less psychological thriller and more the breakdown of a marriage and the escalation of a mistake into a huge, life changing threat, this was a quick, easy read. I guessed parts, some were a bit daft but overall it was a decent page turner.

A woman comes home to find that a new family is moving in her beloved house despite it never having been on the market. Her husband is missing and her kids aren‘t in school. This story is told through both Fi (wife) and Bram (husband) POVs at two different points in time; Fi‘s through a podcast with #VictimFi (you should tweet song!) highly recommend for domestic suspense/thriller fans. #DomesticSuspense #Betrayal #Twists

An intriguing premise: a woman comes home to find her home has been sold. A mystery ensues with many twists and turns but this one wasn't for me. It was overwritten and dragged on way too long. I didn't mind the actual story, but the way it was written is what I have the problem with. I listened to the #audiobook which may have been the problem. Good thriller/mystery/ WTF is happening sort of tale full of despicable, greedy/ gullible, weak characters; hated them all by the end. Lots of twists and reveals and a great last line. Noooooo!!!

This was a decent thriller. Fiona comes home from vacation to find strangers moving into HER home. Assuming there‘s been a terrible mix up she confronts the new owners. Her ex husband has sold it out from under her and fled. Why did he do this? Where is he? A solid thriller with a few twists I didn‘t see coming.
