“Ashlords” was a solid read, but I didn‘t love it. I didn‘t like how the actual race itself was only a small part of the book, and I wasn‘t a fan of the frequent animal death. I also found Pippa pretty obnoxious at the beginning and that she changed her viewpoint a bit too suddenly at the end. I did enjoy the action and the Hunger Games vibes, but I also wish there was a book map and/or a map of the race course itself.

Re-reading Ashlords by Scott @reintgen so I am refreshed and ready to jump into Bloodsworn. I have forgotten how much I love this first book of the Ashlords series.
War is next. I‘m wondering where this fine author will take his readers next...

This was some high-octane fun!! It‘s basically a mash-up of The Hunger Games + The Scorpio Races, a story about magical horse racing & revolution with great writing & a fast-paced plot. It has revolving POVs between 3 characters — two of which I loved, one of which I wanted to slap silly. The world building was A+ but the romance (what was there of it) was not what I would‘ve preferred. Still, a promising beginning to a dystopian duology! ★★★★☆.

I really feel this has the potential to be a great story...it just needs to fill in some of the blanks because I was left feeling confused about some of the elements at play here.

A horse race like no other, where alchemy determines the ride, and the sun determines the length of life. Such an interesting concept and it was intriguing to see what mixtures created which horses. Reintgen creates a richly built world with well-defined characters. It's set to be a duology so there's a lot in here. This is touted to be for fans of The Scorpio Racess, and I'd agree with that though I confess I like this much better.

Scott Reintgen does it again! The only bad thing about this was that I have to wait until 2021 for the next book! I love horses, so a Phoenix/horse mixture was something I loved reading about! Also, this cover!!!

I feel very violated that the book ended like that.

I loved all the POVs...like so much. The race was so exhilarating from all perspectives and I somehow I was rooting for them all. Tiny pieces of it reminded me of the Lunar Chronicles which just gave me so much nostalgia.

Flying home today so I FINALLY have time to work on this.

This fantasy is for those who liked Scorpio Races. The story is fast paced with some twists and turns and the author is not afraid to get his hands dirty. The horses are magical and literally light on fire and turn to ash…and then reincarnate with strengths based on potions the riders use. If you like books that are character driven, there are some issues, but fortunately the story is good enough to carry beyond this sticking point.

This was such a unique breath of fresh air in the YA fantasy world. It was fun and kept me engaged the whole way through. Phoenix horses being reborn each morning out of their ashes, a race that only one can win, a society on the brink of war. What more can you ask for. Loved it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟#YAbotmclub #BOTMclub

Wowza!!! I really loved this exciting Kentucky Derby meets Hunger Games YA fantasy!! Split between three narrators, this exciting read centers around a race competed each year on Phoenix Horses who rise and die each day- my inner ten year old loved it! - and my adult self was thoroughly hooked on the world-building, engaging characters and thrilling plot that took familiar elements and blended them into a riveting read!! Can‘t wait for the sequel!

This is a wonderful reading experience although it took a little time for me to fully immerse myself in. What threw me was that this is a fantasy with gods, spirits, and alchemy but they have their version of YouTube? They also have wristlets that keep the riders appraised of standings, hmmmm, I was expecting a 100% fantasy setting not a dystopian blend. I am not saying that it was bad, just a bit of a surprise.

Finally picked my January #yabotm ! This sounds like a fun dystopian world filled with magic, races, and sabotage! Since this novel doesn‘t officially release until January 21, I‘m pumped to be able to read it before then🤗📚 #tbr #botm #readingobsession
