There are so many monologues in this book!!!!
Finished Dimple Hill (in Pilgrimage), re-read The Expendable Man, read Evil and the Mask and continued with Century of the Wind and Anniversaries. Also reading Her Body and Other Parties as well as Bad Feminist.
#BookReport Whew! That is a lot of books for me, as I usually read one at a time!
“Number two becoming number one, that's how life goes. Always demanding the best, that's a strange way of living.”

“We're attacking all accepted values. Authority, class differences, shared perceptions. We don't care what happens to our social structure - revolutions are for suckers. Our target is people's collective consciousness. It's like throwing a cream pie in their face.”

This book was a dark, disturbing and introspective look at the nature of good, evil, fate and redemption. The most unsettling aspect of this book was how much it did not say or do. Some of the worst things that happen in the book are only briefly observed in the periphery, are recalled after by characters or are manifested in the actions and behaviors of characters. Instead of seeing all the destruction, you feel its effects.

“‘Don't you think people make their own choices in life?'
‘They do, but in many cases their choices are limited - unless they break the rules.‘”

“When people believe they have a good cause, the violence within them bursts forth unrestrained, as if their good angel has given permission for it to escape.”

A well written meditation on the nature of good and evil. The story of a young man raised to cause destruction, and his attempt to reject his upbringing. I thought this was really interesting.
"Everyone plays the lead role in their own life."
I really like this quote. I am the star of my own life story.
Started this book on the drive home today. Totally drawn in already.
@Tsubame thank you so much for the secret santa package. I love that the authors are Japanese and both books look really good. The bookmark is gorgeous and my daughter is very excited about the origami paper. The fabric you wrapped the books in is beautiful. Everything is so special and perfect 😊#secretsantagoespostal #wintersolsticebookexchange @BookishMarginalia
