I am now duly reminded of why I love Jason Reynolds so much. His characters are so credible and authentic! His books can engage even the most reluctant readers. Teen Ali and his pals, Noodles and Needles, live in Bed-Stuy in NYC. (Needles has Tourette‘s, so Ali‘s mom teaches him how to knit - it helps with the tics and outbursts.) It‘s a coming-of-age story, laced with danger. The interconnectedness of the characters is a work of art.

This YA book was a bit tamer than I was expecting but it covered a lot of tough topics - health, sex, violence - in a way that was realistic for teens without being graphic. #AuthorAMonth

Ive read a few of Jason Reynolds's books before and have always been impressed. My favorite is still All American Boys, though. This one was for July #AuthorAMonth, and while it is my least favorite I've read of his, it's still great. Excellent characterization! @Soubhiville

I feel like this book was really simple. I didn‘t know until later that it‘s a book more for kids because I listened to it. I think everything was too neat.

This is such a simple book that It would be easy to explain the entire plot in one sentence. But its simplicity is why it works and how it feels so real. It delves into the meaning of friendship, loyalty, family, and love. It‘s tremendous. This is my second read from Reynolds and I‘m a believer.

I may have a slightly unhealthy obsession with Jason Reynolds 🤣😍 but this was the first of his books I read and I loved it. The audiobook is great, the narration is wonderful and while it‘s got it‘s serious moments there were also plenty that were just FUNNY. Especially the scene in the yarn shop. I look forward to reading more of his stories. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finished this one last night. MAN what a writer. Such a heartfelt and powerful story.

The trio in this book aren't perfect, but they problem-solve, communicate with their parents (a little late but...) and allow readers to simply find themselves reflected in a book character. Their community motto: 'always take care of those you love' is tested, is faithful, and is forgiveness.

I just started this new book yesterday I didn‘t read much of it yet it but so far so good i am very interested in it so far it makes good connections to a lot of different people

I have yet to be let down by anything Jason Reynolds has written. This one had an ominous feel to it that became stronger and stronger until everything came to a head. While I did feel as if the story ended a bit abruptly, I enjoyed the book overall and was really drawn to the stories of Ali, Needles and Noodles.

It was so nice to wake up this morning and finish this—Jason Reynold‘s first book. If you are a knitter, into diverse reads, social justice, spectrum disorders, urban black studies, esp. regarding youth, you‘ll appreciate this. I‘ve read a few of his works but now am committed to reading all of the author‘s works. I now know why the title is as it is, but why does the cover clearly feature a crocheted gun rather than a knitted one?! 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣😂☺️

Great and voice-y

So yesterday I asked for recommendations about where to start reading among the several books Jason Reynolds has written. I didn't get any recommendations so I had to buy all of them...or at least all I could find at #dbf2016 #septphotochallenge. So happy! 😍📚😍📚

Almost done reading this one. Wonderful so far.

Reading this again for teen book club. Will it be as fantastic the second time around? I'm thinking yes.
