That Summer in Cornwall
That Summer in Cornwall | Ciji Ware
5 posts | 2 read
From New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Ciji Ware... A different latitude...a different world... Meredith Champlin unexpectedly finds herself the legal guardian of a child she's never met: Janet Barton Stowe, an unruly eleven-year-old "Beverly Hills brat," whose mother - Meredith's cousin-- has died in a private plane crash. At the urging of the child's Anglo-American aunt, Lady Blythe Barton-Teague, Meredith and her Welsh Corgi decamp from Wyoming to spend the summer at Barton Hall, a shabby-chic castle perched on the remote cliffs of Cornwall, England. Taming the wild child proves a handful, but Meredith's summer escape gets even more complicated when former British Army Lieutenant Sebastian Pryce, veteran of a bomb-sniffing K-9 squad in Afghanistan, proposes they establish the Barton Hall Canine Obedience Academy and that she join him on the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team. Is their instant attraction an unexpected blessing or the prelude to another heartbreak like the one she left behind in the Rocky Mountains? Even with an assist from a novice search dog named T-Rex, the odds seem long that three months in the land of Meredith's Cornish ancestors can transform her troubled ward into a happier child, heal the wounds suffered by her soldier-turned-rescuer, and save the Barton-Teague estate from pending insolvency. As a friend of Meredith's confides, "It all sounds like a stretch, but we never rule out miracles." That Summer in Cornwall a contemporary, stand-alone sequel to Ware's bestselling "time-slip" novel A Cottage by the Sea What critics say about this award-winning author... Ciji Ware's award-winning storytelling "should come with a warning-- Do not start unless you want to be up all night!" -- ROMANTIC TIMES "Ware again proves she can intertwine fact and fiction to create an entertaining and harmonious whole." - PUBLISHERS WEEKLY "A mesmerizing blend of sizzling romance, love and honor... Ciji Ware writes an unforgettable tale." - THE BURTON REVIEW BONUS: This edition includes a Readers Discussion Guide

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

Church Cove in Cornwall. #VirtualTour

How has Sunday been? Spent most of my day on school, including a leadership meeting, letter to parents to try to reassure them, long update email to staff, emails to parents, and neighbourhood team. Also in contact Public Health Team as well as trying to progress some Covid community issues. Arranged meetings with all teachers tomorrow in phases so can progress learning for any children kept off school.

CocoReads Cold and snowy (but it‘s not sticking) today after an absolutely gorgeous day yesterday. But I‘ve spent quite a bit of time on my nanowrimo project as well as getting to know some local writers (virtually). I suspect I‘m the oldest by quite a bit.... 4y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Did finally see some sun today. But now blowing a gale and rain with it. Good luck with your writing. 4y

Crazeedi Not a good day for me. Painful conversations with my daughters, we have differences and I am am terribly upset , I've been heartsick all day. Didn't even go to church, watched an online service. Can't concentrate on reading, trying to watch some football 4y
TrishB It‘s going to be a full on week Andrew. We were supposed to be discussing more face to face teaching, can‘t see that happening now. As a student if you were told this week you only had online teaching until Christmas, you‘d be thinking of going home before Thursday wouldn‘t you 🤷‍♀️ it‘s so depressing for everyone. 4y
JacqMac @Crazeedi Hugs. That sounds like a really hard day. I hope you find some peace today. 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Sorry to hear that, sending positive thoughts 🥰🥰🥰 4y
JacqMac It‘s a beautiful day here. We went to hubby‘s office to pick up another computer. I think they are all in our house now. I really wish he could go back to his office, but it doesn‘t look like that will be happening anytime soon. I miss the before times. A lot. 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB Yes, it is going to be a full on week. Been a full on 24 hours already. Very real probability about students voting with their feet this week. Bet government haven‘t even considered this. I can‘t get over why you say it has to happen Saturday but not happening till Thursday 🤷‍♂️ Another week‘s delay which will equate to more lives lost. Expecting a lot of parents to keep children off tomorrow which is why I wrote to them. Beauty of emails (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @JacqMac Yes I think we all do. To have some of that normality back would be great. 4y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 @JacqMac thank you. I'd just like 2020 to go away and 2019 to come back 4y
Texreader Housework!! Trying to catch up since all I did yesterday was read for #scarathlon 4y
BookwormM Well everything is up on the air again I should work from home as per guidelines but it is still down to company to decide will have to see what they say tomorrow. Work is too quiet anyway I worry about long term prospects. 4y
BookwormM @Andrew65 @TrishB good luck with students and teaching 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi I had a bad 2019, can I reset to 2018! Remember this too will pass. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @BookwormM They are very clear that you have to work at home if you can. Good luck. 4y
Andrew65 @BookwormM The difficult part will be meeting the needs of pupils in school as well as those isolating or where parents keep them home. Very difficult when many don‘t have computer facilities. 4y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 oh no! 2018 is fine with me!😉😘 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi I‘ve got to have a good year soon surely! 4y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 you will! We are going to get through and have an excellent 2021, hugs 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Can‘t wait! 🤷‍♂️ 4y
CBee @Crazeedi email me anytime you need to talk ♥️ 4y
TheBookHippie It‘s snowing I‘m freezing and crabby so I put up my Christmas tree. Now making cocoa and going to read til I pass out 🎄🤣 4y
TheBookHippie @Crazeedi I am sorry. I lost of friend of 30 years this week.. I‘ve been heartsick too. Sending love. 4y
TheBookHippie @JacqMac Sending light.... weary seems to be our new normal 😫 4y
TheBookHippie @TrishB Day by Day. 4y
TheSpineView I slept in a little this morning. Only 45 minutes but it felt longer. Mostly did housework and laundry. Unpacked my car. It was full of show stuff I was too tired to deal with last night. Then went to the grocery store. Just normal stuff nothing exciting. It sounds like you work all the time. I don't know how they think you professionals can continue at the pace you are going. Stupid people...😤 4y
kezzlou85 Wet and windy day here. So many mixed emotions about schools. Some of the comments I've seen on Facebook and Twitter are awful criticising those who want to send their kids and those who don't. Plus mass panic buying here, its nuts. 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Rainy here, was totally lazy. Didn‘t accomplish anything except some reading 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Very polarised positions, with little give on either side. I‘ve kept away from those posts today. That‘s why I write to parents today to reassure them, but if not sending in to speak to us rather than just hiding away so that we can put appropriate support and learning in place, kept away from shops. (edited) 4y
tracey38 Wow @Andrew65 you've had quite the day. I did a little bit of chores and read a lot. That's about it. I spent a lot of yesterday sleeping, to be honest. @Crazeedi many hugs to you! @TheBookHippie I have been watching Christmas movies today and reading 4y
tracey38 👆 didn't mean to hit enter! 🤬 Anyway @TheBookHippie as I was saying, I am also thinking of putting up some Christmas 🎄 decorations in my bedroom to make me feel less blah in the evenings, especially after work, and to feel more cozy while reading. 😁 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Andrew, sending support to you across the miles. Sounds like you're right back in the thick of a headache. Rainy day here so we've been a couple of couch potatoes watching movies. The cleaning can wait. @Crazeedi I'm sorry to hear about your day. I hope you and your daughters mend the relationship sooner than later. Hugs💛 4y
Crazeedi @CBee thank you Cydney ❤ 4y
Crazeedi @TheBookHippie I'm so sorry Christine, hugs❤ its awful 4y
Crazeedi @tracey38 thank you my friend ❤ 4y
Crazeedi @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I pray that we do, life is way too short, thanks❤ 4y
TheBookHippie @tracey38 I had to and I have to say it‘s helping tremendously 🎄🎄🤍🤍 4y
TheBookHippie @Crazeedi 🤍 she‘s alive, just no longer a friend, her choice, she just doesn‘t agree with my views. Also my views haven‘t changed. So it‘s difficult🤍 4y
Crazeedi @TheBookHippie I may or may not agree with you on things, but i respect your opinion. That's all i want is to be allowed to have my own opinion 4y
TheBookHippie @Crazeedi She did not want me to have my opinion either, I believe everyone is entitled to their opinions , but they may sacrifice relationship in the process. Depending on the people I suppose. It grieves me she decided this but nothing I can do. I hope you can mend your relationships. Sometimes it‘s just hard. 🤍 4y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 yeah same here. Haven't heard much from my either of my daughters schools but I didn't expect to. I agree much better for them to let you know what they're doing. I've got to brave Tesco today. Not looking forward to it at all. 4y
Crazeedi @TheBookHippie hugs to you my friend 🥰 4y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 I‘m trying to keep in regular contact with parents through Twitter posts and regular emailed letters. I see part of my job as keeping community spirits up. We‘ve gone back to home delivery. (edited) 4y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 surprisingly Tesco wasn't too bad. No queueing and not many instore. Bit low on loo roll but not out. I think that's really great. Reassuring for the parents too. 4y

More beautiful beach pictures from Harlyn in Cornwall. #VirtualTour

How has Wednesday been? For me feeling like Groundhog Day, the total isolation of how we are working is significantly impacting on me. Thinking how I go about changing this and still protecting myself and others. We (I) can‘t go on like this. The lack of interaction is significantly impacting my mental health!

#DailycheckIn

CocoReads Andrew, i hope you get some relief at some point. and at some point, you have to try to get a little normalcy in your life. But I‘m still unsure how to do that. My big outing once a month is book group but we‘ve been meeting outside and wearing masks—however, after this month, I‘m not sure what we‘ll do as it‘ll be too cold to continue meeting outside. 4y
CocoReads Otherwise Wednesday has been ok. Still have an hour of work left but it‘s that time of day where there isn‘t much happening. 4y

BookwormM At least you can talk with us xx very quiet again today I don‘t like it and now there is disagreement at work about wfh. Staff think they should be allowed to wfh again due to new advise but managers want them on site there is general bad feeling. I have stayed out of it as nowhere has Boris or the gov said who makes the decision about wfh I would rather have a job at the office then no job at home. Scary times 4y
IamIamIam Rough days this week, lots of emotions and irrational crying on my part. I'm researching possible PTSD resulting from quarantine but I think that may be dramatic... I just feel like I'm drowning and can't tread water anymore. 4y
TrishB Oh Andrew I so sympathise with your post, I feel just awful at the moment. It‘s horrible. I‘m sick of interacting with a screen all day. Stay strong ❤️ 4y
TrishB @IamIamIam same ❤️ just had enough of it all. Drowning in work and sick of the sight of my back room. But grateful for a job. Emotions like a roller coaster. 4y
JacqMac I am not the sort to miss people, but it‘s even getting hard for me. I miss people. I hope you figure something out. Not much happening here today. Just trying to keep going. Some days are like that. 4y
TrishB @BookwormM there is extreme lack of actual planning from the govt. It‘s not helpful. 4y
IamIamIam @TrishB Hugs to you, Trish!!! I think it's because the kids went back to school and we're back on a schedule and I revel in the quiet but my husband is still home and I feel judged if I'm not constantly moving!! Plus I had to reschedule surgery, spent hours at the car dealership to be told they're out of stock on parts and feeling inadequate all around! I need a cave and a few months of quiet! 4y
Susanita Zoom call with colleagues made me go 😱 then email from one colleague looking for files made me go 😳 so I think I deserve a brownie. 4y
TrishB @IamIamIam understand totally! Apart from taking the dog out I haven‘t had a minute on my own in over 6 months! 4y
Lynnsoprano @JacqMac I feel the same way. Today was interesting. Went the agricultural extension office for hubby to teach his class on Zoom, with me as tech asst. so good to see someone else, everyone masked, temperature check and questions before being allowed in. Could have done from home, but document camera at office meant he could show actual samples, not just PP. Good class, 3 hours, still managed 2 mile walk. 4y
Lynnsoprano Hugs to all of you who are dealing with much more than me. @IamIamIam @TrishB @BookwormM @Andrew65 4y
Andrew65 Yes very tough for us all at the moment! Sending best wishes and thanks to everybody. 🥰🥰🥰 Giving some thoughts tonight as to what I can do to change things before I start wearing my underpants on my head and sticking pencils up my nose and keep saying wibble. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2DCExerOsA @TrishB @JacqMac @IamIamIam @CocoReads @BookwormM @Susanita @Lynnsoprano (edited) 4y
IamIamIam @Lynnsoprano 🤗💜🤗💜 Today is just one day. Hoping for a better day tomorrow as I'm going on my first job interview in about 15 years!!! Lol, no better time like the present to pick my head up and focus on the moment. I've found that's the hardest thing to do with 6 months sitting like an anvil on my shoulders. 4y
kezzlou85 Heartbreaking day as we had to put our dog to sleep. He's no longer suffering though. 4y
TheSpineView @kezzlou85 So sorry. Hugs! 😢💔 4y
TheSpineView Andrew, I am saddened that thoug are struggling. I wish I could wave the magic wand and make it better for everyone. Just know that we are thinking about you. 🙂 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @kezzlou85 I am so sorry. Dogs are such an important party of the family. Sending love across the miles to you. 💞 @Andrew65 @IamIamIam @TrishB @JacqMac Sending hugs to you all from a safe distance. Comparatively, my Wednesday is just another fine day at work. I'm in the office but I'm away from everyone so it feels mostly normal in here. It's been quiet so I started planning some October reading. 4y
kezzlou85 @TheSpineView thank you. 4y
kezzlou85 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick thank you so much. They really are so much a part. You never realise all the little moments until they're gone. 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 It‘s funny, bc my attorney friend from college was just saying today how he feels like he‘s so boring bc he doesn‘t have any stories to tell from commuting to Manhattan and being with colleagues (let‘s face it, the NYC subway system has some interesting characters). I can‘t even imagine being a teacher, when interaction is KEY to the profession, and not being able to interact. I hope things get better soon❤️ today was fun, celebrated my friend‘s 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 60th Birthday. Ate vegan food by the sea. Gorgeous day here at the Jersey Shore. 4y
gradcat @Andrew65 I feel like I dropped out (of living) a while ago, and I have nothing at all like the pressures and workload that you have—how have you stood it?—don‘t be too hard on yourself...if you have to take a day for your sanity, please do so. I think you‘re a hero as it is. ♥️♥️♥️ 4y
Andrew65 @gradcat 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Love you, and thanks! Will have to make you President of my fan club, now just need to find some other members. 🤣 Better today and owner hp to how feeling to Deputies and Governors so looking at how we address it. Never felt anything like last few days and the effect it was having on me. Shocked me to be honest! Now to come up with a cunning plan! 4y
Itchyfeetreader Nice to see this and check in, I have been struggling a lot with a heavy workload and ongoing efforts to keep my team upbeat. Today I logged off and took a bath with a book and feel a bit more human. @Andrew65 so impressed by all you do but please look after yourself also 4y
Andrew65 @Itchyfeetreader Yes we all need this time away. Thanks and look after yourself too. It‘s that emotional exhaustion in particular. 🥰 4y
