Death of a Kingfisher
Death of a Kingfisher | M. C. Beaton
5 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
From the author of the Agatha Raisin television series...DEATH OF A KINGFISHER: A Hamish Macbeth MysteryWhen Scotland is hit by the recession, Police Constable Hamish Macbeth notices that the Highland people are forced to come up with inventive ways to lure tourists to their sleepy towns. The quaint village of Braikie doesn't have much to offer, other than a place of rare beauty called Buchan's Wood, which was bequeathed to the town. The savvy local tourist director renames the woods "The Fairy Glen," and has brochures printed with a beautiful photograph of a kingfisher rising from a pond on the cover. It isn't long before coach tours begin to arrive. But just as the town's luck starts to turn, a kingfisher is found hanging from a branch in the woods with a noose around its neck. As a wave of vandalism threatens to ruin Braikie forever, the town turns to Hamish Macbeth. And when violence strikes again, the lawman's investigation quickly turns from animal cruelty to murder.

Started book 27 in the excellent Hamish MacBeth Series. Unbelievably this starts with Hamish being called out for a murder, only to find out it is a Kingfisher bird that has been despicably murdered. Also is this the book that Hamish finally finds love?

Crazeedi I need to get back to this series, I've only read 3 or 4 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi They are good, quick, easy and enjoyable reads, which good to fit in around the bigger books. 4y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I remember they were pretty quick ones, I think I have a couple on my shelf to get to!! 4y

Andrew65 @Crazeedi No time like the present. 👍😂 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Have you read any Agatha Raisin? @Crazeedi (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes, the whole series apart from the one most recently published. Took me a few to really get into them and then started really enjoying them. Agatha is not the most likeable of characters but gets involved in some really humorous positions. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 I watched a couple of tv shows about Agatha Raisin on Acorn today. I‘ll have to read the books now. I have 63 books from MC Beaton. I‘ll have to check out the Hamish books too! 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB The Hamish books are my favourite. (edited) 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Can‘t wait to start those too! 4y

myellenbee Amazing amount of reading for a week! Ellie Griffiths and MC Beaton are two of my favorites. 4y
Andrew65 @myellenbee Doesn‘t mean they‘ll be finished. Usually get in about 2000 pages during most weeks. They are two of my favourite authors too. 4y
Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES @EadieB It was and thanks. 😊 (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @Cinfhen Me too! 😍 4y
GHABI4ROSES @Andrew65 I had to get out my calculator for that📚💪🏾😅 4y
Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES 😂 Aim for 200 pages on a work day (do not always make it) and 400 pages for each Saturday and Sunday. Again do not make these every day bit usually gets me into the 1800 - 2000 pages most weeks. 4y
GHABI4ROSES @andrew65 yes, I definitely count on more pages on the weekends, and I consider that Self Care💪🏾🌈📚🙏🏾 4y
GHABI4ROSES @Andrew65 just saw that you are reading/ read Underground Railroad. Is it awesome? I read Nickel Boys last year, and I made it required reading for my adult kids. First one is getting through it nicely; unfolded my pages and folded her own! 4y
Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES I‘m over halfway and really enjoying. Also hoping to get to 4y
GHABI4ROSES @Andrew65 I will plan on reading Railroad, then! 4y

This book was absolutely brilliant!
From start to finish, it had me hooked! 😍
Very creative in the idea of the first murder of the kingfisher family and the intricacy of Mrs Colchesters murder! Amazing! 💯👌

I liked this book. Hamish is a fun character, the mystery was interesting, there‘s humor, and the narrator was decent.

I may not be able to make my swimming goal this week as the pool keeps getting closed because of thunderstorms.

I read all the Agatha Raisin books in order, but with the Hamish MacBeth series, I‘ve just picked up whichever one strikes my fancy. This is the one I‘m listening to now.

Clwojick I‘ve read one of her books, and I wasn‘t a huge fan... although I felt it had potential. Maybe I just chose a bad first pick? Do you have a favourite one to recommend? I‘d love to give her another chance. 💛💚💙 5y

dariazeoli Great walk! 5y
alisiakae Great job! 5y
KathyWheeler @Clwojick I don‘t really have a favorite. I like to listen to them when I walk because they are light and fluffy and require little concentration. They‘ve also helped get me out of reading slumps before because of their lightness. 5y
