You Learn by Living
You Learn by Living | Eleanor Roosevelt
She was born before women had the right to vote yet went on to become one of America's most influential First Ladies. A Gallup poll named her one of the most admired people of the twentieth century and she remains well known as a role model for a life well lived. Roosevelt wrote You Learn by Living at the age of seventy-six, just two years before her death. The commonsense ideas'and heartfelt ideals'presented in this volume are as relevant today as they were five decades ago. Her keys to a fulfilling life? Some of her responses include: learning to learn, the art of maturity, and getting the best out of others.

Published in 1960, somethings never change and her advice was timeless. Somethings have changed and it was a good reminder to hear her speak from her era.

A nonfiction piece by the former First Lady. I love the point she makes about learning through every thing you do, but much of what she says feels dated and elitist. She talks about how to train your servants and things like that, which obviously is not applicable to most people. Good read, but take it with a grain of salt.

I greatly admire Eleanor Roosevelt. She was a woman before her time. Her writing is both eloquent and direct. Some may find her ideas out of step with today‘s world, but sweep away the notions of her times, and you are left with a universal wisdom. This is a deeply satisfying book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️#mmdbookclub @annebogel

Eleanor Roosevelt wrote this when she was 76. It is one of 29 books that she wrote in her lifetime. The subtitle is Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life and she certainly had the life experience to offer advice. I particularly liked the chapter “HowEveryone Can Take Part in Politics”. Martin Luther King said on her death : ‘‘Her life was one of the bright interludes in the troubled history of mankind‘‘ #booked2018 #feministclassic

I can relate to the abnormally timid girl Eleanor Roosevelt describes here. I was an incredibly shy child. But I grew into a sensitive, yet caring, adult (who just happens to be an introvert). Also, I LOVE the second paragraph! #inspiration

I could have used this for #authorwhosharesyourname as well but I was saving my only really pink cover for today! There is a great chapter in here on "how everyone can take part in politics" which looks especially relevant in today's environment when I'm often stuck with a the thoughts of what should I do?! #pinkcovers #riotgrams

I invite all living creatures in the galaxy to read this book and learn from Mrs. Roosevelt. She writes with such an easy personable style. I felt like she was chatting with me in my living room! The male pronouns did not bother me (that was the correct English grammar rule at the time). Her message is what matters and it's a good one! #civics #education

I really admire Eleanor Roosevelt & there's some really good advice. But it was published in 1960 and much of it is of the time as far as gender roles. #bookisholympics
