I enjoyed this book. I‘m not typically a huge fan of historical fiction but overall it was a fine read.

I didn‘t enjoy this fictionalised account of the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and reporter Lorena Hickok as much as I wanted to. I don‘t know a huge amount about American politics or personalities during FDRs presidency and the timeline jumped around leaving me a bit lost. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I‘d known more of the people I was reading about. Loving the cover though.

This was a beautiful love story that I don‘t think a lot of knew about. This brought to light many things about the Roosevelt‘s and now I want to read more.

This was a rdg grp selection for Oct + it certainly made for interesting reading. It is the story of lorena hickok, journalist and lover of Eleanor Roosevelt, from her childhood through to Eleanor's death in 62. The Roosevelt marriage was fascinating as i knew nothing about the couple beyond the basic history. I enjyd the bk itself + found parts such as lorena's early life absorbing & the portrait of a love affair told with sensitivity.

I best get listening! All these book holds came through Libby at the same time 😯

This book was such a delightful read. I loved the simple, quiet story of Eleanor Roosevelt and her companion/lover Hick as 2 women in love throughout years of their lives and their differing personal situations. The extent of historical truth didn‘t matter to me at all; it was the light, airy, and sweet story of the 2 women that carried me along. #pridemonth 🏳️‍🌈

I wasn‘t sure I wanted to read this after hearing the author on a podcast, but it was available and I needed an audio book. Mixing facts and fiction has always annoyed me and I rarely see the point. Being a facts OR fiction reader I like to know where the facts stop and the fiction starts. Made up conversations are particularly irksome. 🌟🌟1/2

Well, I finished it. I powered through for the sake of the book club. Even though the writing is quite lovely, the vignette style and not-exactly linear time line made it difficult to connect to this story, based on these fascinating people.

Working my way through my next book club book, and having trouble with the way this story is told. Almost stream of consciousness (which I hate), probably more vignette... anyone else? #probablyunpopularopinion

Stunningly beautiful love story.
Bloom‘s writing is exquisite. The last few paragraphs were so touching, I actually sighed at the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: This was a juicy take on the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hickok. I couldn‘t get enough, but the end fell a little bit flat for me.

This should be just my kind of book, but honestly I was just bored. It kept jumping around in time and I never really connected with the story. Shame.

Imagining the love affair between Eleanor Roosevelt and the reporter Lorena “Hick” Hickok. Not a very positive portrayal of FDR, though it did feel very lived-in and realistic. I guess we‘ll never know what really happened, but I like this as a possibility.

I really enjoyed this book! It's a fictional look (informed by much research) at the romance between Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hickok (Hicks). It has a fly-on-the-wall feeling about the Roosevelt white house, which is interesting. It's also a beautifully written queer love story about a very public figure. A delightful read! #queerbooks

This novel of the real life relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena “Hick” Hickok is a lovely mix of romance, wit and history. It‘s the perfect length to satisfy without bogging down. I adored it.

A devotion that makes sex look like a short swim in a shallow pool. 😍

Time for some vacation reading

A warm, fictionalized account of the love affair & longtime friendship between Eleanor Roosevelt & Lorena Hickok, who first met in 1932, when Eleanor was 48 & Hick was 39. I loved that it‘s about passion between women in their middle-to-later years. It‘s in Hick‘s voice & I also enjoyed the view into a larger lesbian world as she experienced it during her lifetime. Love, loyalty & social justice. #Audiobook narrated by Tonya Cornelisse. #lgbtq

I was drawn to the portrayal of Eleanor Roosevelt in this. It was interesting to read her as Eleanor the love interest, rather than just Eleanor the do-gooder.

Heard this author on the radio and it sounded like something I‘d like to read. Read some not so good reviews but lesson learnt , don‘t read reviews or at least don‘t take too much notice .
I enjoyed this book. I sat in the winter sun today and read it in one go.
It is fiction but I‘d love to think it‘s even partly true. Really loved the last page.

I picked up a hold at the library yesterday and saw this book was available, too. I‘ve been wanting to read it. I‘m really enjoying it so far. It‘s a lovely cover, too. 💕
