This is a cute teen book. Mary's family is very literary (both parents are professors), and she navigates life based on what she knows about classic literature. This system does not serve her well, leading to misunderstandings with friends and a love interest. Lots of references to classic literature.

#ItHadToBeYou #BookLove Mary loves books, especially the classics, and uses them as a reference for her own life.

This is another romance where I actually liked the stories of family and of friendships more than I liked the romance side of the story. The mc, Mary, is all about classic books and is very naive but thinks she‘s not. She reminds me a lot of Jane Austen‘s Emma. Of course, in her judgements, she makes mistakes and needs to be forgiven for them. How her friends treat her regarding these mistakes teaches her about real friends.

I‘m so glad I gave this book a chance! I wasn‘t sure what to expect with all the mixed reviews, but this ended up being one of my favorite rom-coms I read all year. It was cute, easy-to-read, and full of classic literary references. Loved it!

Bail at 26%. I NEVER bail on books but this book was just SO BAD. It could have been so good too. The main characters personality trait is judging everyone around her and talking like she's from the 1800s. She's suppose to be 15, nobody talks like that girl. You can like classics and still talk like a normal person. And all of her friends are just as flat and boring. I just couldn't stand this book.

I think the tagged book may be my favorite from this month! Not a great month of reading number-wise, but not terrible either.

I wish I had written this book. It was sooooo good and really captured what it‘s like to compare what you see in real life to what you‘ve read in 19th century literature. Loved Mary, her friends, her big quirky family, the kids from her old school, and all the situations they found themselves in. The writing was something special, I think. That‘s why, about 3 pages in, I turned to my husband and said “I‘m reading the book I wish I had written.” 💗

BennettBookworm Now I HAVE to read this ;) 4y
Kempii Love your review and can‘t wait to read this book! Do you think it would lend itself well to book club discussion? I‘m always on the hunt for new books for our club. Which, by the way, you‘re always welcome to pop in and join for a discussion or play reading! 4y
LiteraryinLawrence @Kempii Hmm, I don‘t know that there‘s enough to justify a book club pick. It feels like a warm hug of a book, not necessarily one to spark deep conversation. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks for the invite!! I‘d love to know what you read and when you meet! 4y

Driving home from the cottage and I‘m officially done all the books I brought with me 😢 I loved this YA bookish novel with references to all the classics I have loved and I few I need to read. I laughed out loud so many times ❤️❤️❤️

LiteraryinLawrence This was great! I borrowed it from the library on my Kindle but I think I want to own a hard copy. 4y

If you are a reader, a writer or a fan of classic literature this book NEEDS to be on your shelf! It‘s such a cute YA novel that is different from other YA novels in existence. The characters are so well though t out and the story is so relatable to anyone who love literature. I am posting a link to my new video so you can see how much I love this novel ❤️

A cute ya about a girl who starts a new school, makes some friends in a whole new way. And generally tries to understand her world based on classic literature.

This was a very cute YA contemporary romance that I'm glad to have gotten via #netgalley. A nice light read for these trying times, which was good. Mary is a very sweet protagonist who is believably both naive and mature as someone who transfers to public high school after a classics-based private education. The book is as much about friendship as it is about the romance and while it was a touch overlong I enjoyed it. Out on May 12 📚

tracey38 This sounds cute. 4y
