A Testament of Character
A Testament of Character | Sulari Gentill
3 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
In fear for his life, American millionaire Daniel Cartwright changes his will, appointing his old friend Rowland Sinclair as his executor. Soon murder proves that fear well founded. When Rowland receives word of Cartwrights death, he sets out immediately for Boston, Massachusetts, to bury his friend and honour his last wishes. He is met with the outrage and anguish of Cartwrights family, who have been spurned in favour of a man they claim does not exist. Artists and gangsters, movie stars and tycoons all gather to the fray as elite society closes in to protect its own, and family secrets haunt the living. Rowland Sinclair must confront a world in which insanity is relative, greed is understood, and love is dictated; where the only people he can truly trust are an artist, a poet and a passionate sculptress.

My #Doublespin Bk 4⭐️ 2,216pts #TeamSlaughter

CarolynM Did you know Sulari lost her house in the 2020 bushfires? I can't blame her for keeping us waiting for the next Rowly book, but I'm feeling impatient anyway. 2y

Lizpixie @CarolynM no I didn‘t! She lives on the Hawkesbury doesn‘t she? @Clwojick they did a redesign of the covers a few years ago and I won signed copies of the eight published at the time. They‘re all gorgeous👍 (edited) 2y
CarolynM She lives in Batlow. 2y
Lizpixie @CarolynM oh ok. Why did I have the impression she lived not far from Wisemans Ferry?🤔 2y

The latest instalment of the adventures of Rowland Sinclair and his entourage finds them travelling to Boston after the sudden death of an old friend. The will is disputed, the family squabbles, violence and ruin are threatened, famous personages are encountered, love is professed, made and misunderstood, and Rowly gets beaten up as usual. It wasn't hard to guess who was responsible, but the motive was interesting. Thoroughly enjoyable #ozfiction

bookandbedandtea I love the cover 🤩 4y
Lizpixie I love the original covers but these ones are just so beautiful! You can look at it for hours & find new points of interest. Plus the fact I won the whole series signed by the author helps! 4y

CarolynM @LapReader No, I don't know that one. Is it any good? 4y
LapReader It‘s my new book club read. I haven‘t started it though. 4y
JoyBlue I've never heard of the Rowland Sinclair series—thanks for recommending it. I've put the first installment on my Hoopla wishlist (which I only use if I've run out of Overdrive/Libby audiobooks). (edited) 4y
JoyBlue @LapReader I read The Widows of Malabar Hill (Perveen Mistry, #1) in January 2019. I gave it 3.5/5. Sadly, our library hasn't continued to purchase the series on audio, so I don't know if I'll end up reading further installments. 4y
Centique I love the cover too! 4y
CarolynM @JoyBlue I love the first one and would definitely recommend it, but be aware it is set in Sydney and is very much rooted in Australian history of the 1930's. Of the later books, about half are set in Australia and half in other countries. 4y
CarolynM @Centique It's supposed to represent the carousel like revolving bar at the Copely Plaza Hotel in Boston. I'm assuming it was a real place in the 30's because Sulari's research is usually pretty impressive. I wonder if it still exists? I've got used to this cover style now, but I still prefer the original design of the first few. 4y
Rissreads Fantastic cover! 4y
JoyBlue @CarolynM Thanks! 4y
