The Isle of Skye
The Isle of Skye: Graded walks and scrambles throughout Skye, including the Cuillin | Terry Marsh
1 post
This guidebook describes 87 of the best walks and scrambles on the Isle of Skye. Not only limited to the popular routes on the Black Cuillin or Skye's 12 Munros, the guide offers a comprehensive selection of routes in all areas of the island; in Sleat and South-East Skye, Strath, Minginish, Duirinish, Waternish and Trotternish. The routes range in length from 2 to 23km, so while there are opportunities for novice walkers, routes can also be combined for longer trails and difficult scrambles. Skye can delight walkers and scramblers at every turn, from sea stacks to fell tops; corries to rugged cliffs and plenty in between. Walkers on Skye should be prepared for strenuous trails and wilderness, as well as changeable weather, navigation, and - depending on the route - scrambling skills. However, the routes in this guide range in length from 2 to 23km, so while there are opportunities for novice walkers, routes can also be combined for longer trails and difficult scrambles. Alongside detailed descriptions and OS maps for every route, the guidebook also includes practical information essential to making the most out of a visit to Skye. From travel to and around the island, to advice on accommodation, where to stock up on supplies and who to call in emergencies. The result is an excellent companion to exploring the best of Skye.

Heading further south, but still in far north-west of Scotland, on our #virtualtour. Time to head to the Isle of Skye, and cross the Skye Bridge. As you can see still dramatic scenery all round us. Time to head of Nessie hunting tomorrow at Loch Ness.

Here we are Thursday again, despite lockdown time seems to be passing quite quickly. How has Thursday been for you?

BookwormM Busy work day today kept me out of mischief. 5y
CocoReads Day off. Ankle feels better but now my ear hurts and my sinuses are killing me, thanks to our bipolar weather. But I‘ve had a fairly relaxing day. Read quite a bit and will be making homemade chicken noodle soup tonight. 5y

TheBookHippie Gosh that‘s beautiful ? "Michigan, had the third highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the country," Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said. "We are not the third biggest state in the country. This is a dramatic terrible virus." Yet people protest the shutdown ... I‘m okay ..just exhausted . Hope you are well. 5y
Velvetfur Gosh, such gorgeous scenery - that pic in the bottom left, I can't believe the colours! I've been really taking it easy today, as my asthma went bad yesterday and I couldn't get to sleep, then keep waking up regularly and couldn't get comfortable 🙁 Been fine today though 👍 Today has been a really long day, somehow! 5y
Andrew65 @BookwormM That‘s always good - less time to think! 😊 5y
Velvetfur @TheBookHippie Gosh that's a difficult situation, I'm sorry to hear of that death toll too and I don't understand why that's not having an effect on the people protesting. Thinking of you xx 5y
Andrew65 @CocoReads I‘ve had a lot of sinus issues too but now got some hay fever! I think you needed to relax and put your foot up. That soup sounds great 😋 5y
Birdsong28 It does seem to passing quickly and it's given me a chance to regroup and I am taking each day as it comes but I am starting to feel a bit claustrophobic. Hope you are ok. Loving the pictures it does cheer me up. 😊❤️📚📖 5y
LiteraryinPA Because we had the day off on Monday, I‘ve been busier at work the last 3 days. I think it was good for me to be distracted and feel like I‘m contributing something. I worked the past 2 evenings but I‘m planning to relax tonight. I‘d like to write some letters and read. I‘ve been having random physical pains lately, like one day my arm hurt and one day my neck hurt. Today my chest is tight. It‘s probably all stress, but it makes me stress more. 5y
Velvetfur @CocoReads Sorry to hear of the physical bits and pieces, I hope the soup cheers you up a bit! Good idea, that 😊 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie You can feel the scenery changing around us on the tour. The West has a reputation for being the most beautiful but also has big midgee issues during the Summer. Been bitten to death on more than one occasion (where‘s that hairdryer!). Emotional energy draining us all. Some of those protests were ridiculous, have they not heard of social isolation and seen the number of daily deaths. (edited) 5y
LiteraryinPA I‘ve always thought the Isle of Skye was beautiful! Maybe I‘ll visit in person some day. 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie I‘m fine. They have extended our lockdown for another three weeks today, sensible decision, under the same terms. Then will review again in three weeks. 5y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 they think it‘s fake news ... 🤷🏽‍♀️ 5y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur They are gorgeous pictures and colours. This whole thing has us stressed and anxious, that can‘t help your asthma. Take great care and take it very easy. 😊 Hope you get a better night‘s sleep tonight. 5y
Andrew65 @Birdsong28 Pleased to see the pictures help. It does lead to claustrophobia, I wonder how many people will be scared to go out when all this ends! Take care. 😊 5y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Fake news! All countries across the world, hats off for the best fake ever. 😡 5y
CocoReads @Andrew65 yes, the orange ones minions think this is all a joke. One of my own cousins (not a close one) thinks hospitals are lying and it‘s not that bad. 🤦‍♀️ to what end, I want to ask but I refuse to engage with her. Or her crazy daughter. 5y
Andrew65 @LiteraryinLititz Those were pictures from the Internet, The Isle of Skye is one place we haven‘t been to yet. My wife has a bit of issues with bridges so need to do it without pre-warning her! 🤣 5y
CocoReads @LiteraryinLititz yes, it probably is stress. The amount of times a day, I have to talk myself out of mini freak outs is ridiculous. Try to relax tonight, that helps a lot. 5y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Sure people will realise when it affects them or their family, or a close friend dies. 5y
IamIamIam Love that castle!!! That's my 2nd favorite so far on the tour!!! 😍 I think it's the perfect size to quarantine in and we'll be taking our yacht over shortly. 🤣🤣 Today is much better! Better state of mind, the kids have been Zooming with their cousins and I've been crocheting while catching up with my sister in law. Champagne dreams and caviar wishes to you all today! 💃 5y
Velvetfur @Andrew65 Thank you 😊 Each time my chest woke me up I was monitoring myself to see if I coughed, and if so what type of cough, and would it be THAT cough, and oh gosh what if I've got it and I went to see my elderly parents on Sunday but I kept a distance and kept my mask on but I'd still have put them at risk and what if they die because of me...no wonder I couldn't sleep! 5y
Andrew65 @CocoReads @LiteraryinLititz Yes all signs of stress. Same as the pains in my stomach from the acid reflux, had to take myself in hand the day before yesterday. I considered myself told! 5y
CocoReads @Andrew65 I have to talk myself down at least once a day. Especially at work. 5y
Andrew65 @IamIamIam There are some great castles, one of the famous ones tomorrow. I find video conferencing does help, makes you feel if you‘ve spent time more with people than just speaking on phone. We have a daily leadership meeting at 2.00 daily and that helps to keep in contact. 5y
Velvetfur @Andrew65 ugh, sorry to hear about the acid reflux, I'm not surprised though as you've been doing so much lately. I'm glad you got told! 😂 5y
IamIamIam @Andrew65 How are your staff members that contracted the virus doing? That was a little over a week ago, right? 5y
CocoReads @Velvetfur I‘m sorry-I totally feel for you on that. My throat has been sore off and on this whole time. I know it‘s because of allergies and sinus drainage but I keep thinking when is a sore throat just a sore throat? 5y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur It does make us all hypochondriacs, same fir me when I had the sinus issues 2 - 3 weeks ago. Keep think is that a high temperature! It is no wonder you couldn‘t sleep. Sending love and best wishes. 🥰 5y
Andrew65 @CocoReads That is not a surprise, testing all our resilience but must be a million times worse in hospital. 5y
Andrew65 @IamIamIam Thankfully she is recovering bit by bit, only spent the one day in hospital where given oxygen. She does have asthma, & other underlying issues, so was very vulnerable. Said it was much worse than pneumonia. Still gets exceptionqlly tired very quickly but seems to be on the road to recovery. No cough now. Started to rejoin our daily leadership conferences. Usually yawning part way through it, perhaps I‘m being more boring than usual🤣 5y
Andrew65 @Velvetfur The stresses of the job don‘t help normally but this is off the scale! 5y
Andrew65 @IamIamIam Believe it or not it started three weeks ago tomorrow! 5y
Andrew65 @CocoReads We all do, as I say made us all hypochondriacs. 5y
IamIamIam @Andrew65 😳 Woah... time is funny in quarantine, isn't it!!! Gonna have to get my Delorian up to 88mph to get things back on track soon! 🤣 I'm so glad that she's on the mend!! It's nice to hear that people are bouncing back in the midst of all the bad news. Give her our best from the other side of the pond! 5y
Susanita I'm loving these! Meanwhile, Ian Rankin has been sharing photos of an empty Edinburgh on his twitter account. 5y
Andrew65 @IamIamIam Will do, and especially good to hear someone recovers who was high risk and needed shielding. Tempus Fugit! 5y
Andrew65 @Susanita Ooh, will have to check that out. Thanks 😊 5y
Andrew65 Here‘s Ian Rankin‘s twitter page if you want to check out the Empty Edinburgh pictures posted on 15th April. https://twitter.com/Beathhigh Thanks @Susanita 5y
Velvetfur @CocoReads Ah yes, all the little things like a slight cough or a twinge in the throat and we're all panicking! I went to the supermarket yesterday and did a huge shop and now I'm not leaving the house ever again 😁 Thank you for your kind words xxx 5y
Velvetfur @Andrew65 Oh yeah with this hot weather we've been having, are we just a bit hot and sweaty or do we have a fever...? That kind of thinking must be taking an emotional toll on us without us realising. Than you for your kind words, and I'm glad to hear about your colleague's recovery, good for her! 💜 5y
CocoReads Glad to hear she‘s on the mend. 5y
CocoReads @Andrew65 oh I hadn‘t heard about that yet. 😢 this whole thing is awful. I think it‘s revealing both the best and worst of humanity. 5y
Andrew65 @CocoReads Agree about bringing out the best AND worst! 5y
CocoReads I feel so bad for everyone involved. I know they‘re so hard hit that it would be easy to be overwhelmed. 5y
JacqMac The weather is lovely here today. No snow, finally, so we just got back from a walk. It was nice to feel some sunlight and be able to open the windows for a bit. My allergies are just starting @CocoReads I hate them. I hope the soup helps. 5y
kezzlou85 Been a hard day. Its the anniversary of my dads death and though its been 12 years its not much easier. Especially in these current times, he would be a huge source of comfort and help to me and his neighbours as he was when he was alive. Hearing the clap for the NHS and then seeing the wonderful video of the Police and Fire Brigade at our local hospital the NNUH joining in was so wonderful to watch. 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Beautiful Andrew! I have spent the day with Anna Claire. She is restless and ready to go back to work. I can‘t get her to understand. We have done some things in the yard, made an emergency trip to buy some meat to freeze as I hear there will be a shortage soon, and visited my mother through the window at the assisted living facility. I go back to work tomorrow. I‘m trying to remain positive, but it‘s hard at times... I‘m ready to see my Dad 😓 5y
Andrew65 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks You‘re a strong person Misty, and we will get through this! Look at what you have already survived in your life! A true hero 🙌 When you are young it must be hard to take all this on board, want to be out there living your life, and you feel invincible. Not helped by focus on older people. Sending all my love and best wishes but we will beat this. 🥰❤️ (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 sending all my love and sympathy. 🥰 That clapping is so wonderful to watch. Take care. 😊 5y
Andrew65 @JacqMac Yey! No snow! Sun helps so much! 5y
margreads So beautiful!! 5y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 aww thank you so much. It truly is. You too. 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Andrew65 thank you Andrew!! Sending love to you 💙 5y
TheSpineView Beautiful weather today and that bolstered my spirits. The internet and cable is back. Even though I am working from home just the little things has made a big difference. I am blessed to have all my basic needs meet. 5y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I had a busy work day and the weather dropped a bit so I actually wore gloves to walk the dog for non-covid reasons. 😁 I'm still doing well. Glad that most of you had a better day than yesterday. 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I actually left the house today to mail a couple of bills out and to go food shopping. They have a good handle on things, limiting people, etc. I don‘t understand why some people are not wearing masks. One of the smaller local natural markets here are requiring it, which I think is smart. Just that short outing knocked me out for 2 hours. Weird how being in for days at end, changes the sensation of being out. Hope you are well, Andrew!!!🌞 5y
Crazeedi Thank you Andrew! I've been absent, my uncle died, couldn't go to private service, so been very sad. There will be a memorial later. His wife couldn't leave their assisted living or she wouldn't be allowed back for 14 days. Very sad time 5y
tracey38 Sorry I've been MIA. Haven't been feeling well. None of the major Covid symptoms but Emplyee Heath made me go get tested anyway because of some symptoms I do have. Thankfully, test was negative. But I am home today and still not feeling great. Will try to read some if I can get my splitting headache to lessen. 5y
tracey38 Also, I've always wanted to go to the Isle of Skye. It's so beautiful! 5y
Andrew65 @TheSpineView Sounds as if you are getting back to normal a week on, the weather helps massively. We‘re shut off so much at the moment that internet is crucial. 5y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Gloves is definitely the order of the day! Good to hear you are doing well. 😊 5y
Andrew65 @JanuarieTimewalker13 Still find it amazing that in UK they are not pushing masks, I wore one fir a visit to the supermarket but only one other person was wearing one. The Mayor of London has just pushed the wearing of masks against the advice given by the government. Shopping takes such preparation beforehand at the moment and cleaning work afterwards. I‘m fine, thanks for asking. (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Sorry to hear about your uncle, sending deepest sympathies. 😘 Sad times all round at the moment, we need good news! Take care. 🥰 (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @tracey38 Oh I‘m sorry about that, pleased to hear it‘s not CoVid 19 however. Not surprised you have been ill, you are undergoing great stresses at the moment. Take care and sending all my love and best wishes. 🥰 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @tracey38 feel better💐 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Andrew, def follow the mayor. Holy Cannoli, your PM had it and they‘re not pushing masks? That‘s insanity. 5y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Crazeedi So sorry for your loss 5y
tracey38 @andrew65 @JanuarieTimewalker13 thank you! I'm finally feeling a bit better today but not 100% yet. 5y
GHABI4ROSES @IamIamIam are you on any crochet club sites? Looking for a Buddy, and RAVELRY is all I have found. 5y
IamIamIam @GHABI4ROSES That's one of the few places that I've found that's interactive. I'm in the Repeat Crafter Me group on Facebook which is decent and The Crochet Crowd. If you're on IG, feel free to follow me on there! @jessguinan 😁 5y
GHABI4ROSES Thanks for that❣️ 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Your pictures are making me think longingly of my trip to Scotland and Skye many years ago when they were building that bridge. Maybe I‘ll get back someday. (edited) 5y
