Wildwood Dancing (Turtleback School & Library)
Wildwood Dancing (Turtleback School & Library) | Juliet Marillier
High in the Transylvanian woods, at the castle Piscul Draculi, live five daughters and their doting father. It's an idyllic life for Jena, the second eldest, who spends her time exploring the mysterious forest with her constant companion, a most unusual frog. But best by far is the castle's hidden portal, known only to the sisters. Every Full Moon, they alone can pass through it into the enchanted world of the Other Kingdom. There they dance through the night with the fey creatures of this magical realm. But their peace is shattered when Father falls ill and must go to the southern parts to recover, for that is when cousin Cezar arrives. Though he's there to help the girls survive the brutal winter, Jena suspects he has darker motives in store. Meanwhile, Jena's sister has fallen in love with a dangerous creature of the Other Kingdom--an impossible union it's up to Jena to stop. When Cezar's grip of power begins to tighten, at stake is everything Jena loves: her home, her family, and the Other Kingdom she has come to cherish. To save her world, Jena will be tested in ways she can't imagine--tests of trust, strength, and true love. From the Hardcover edition.

I loved this book so much! I want to read more from this author because the way she writes a fairytale has my heart bursting. All my childhood fantasies came true in this book and it's the kind of story that all princesses should be read at bedtime. It was beautiful. Filled with sisterly love, courage, strength, magical creatures, and romance.

Texreader Sounds fascinating!! Any vampires? 2y

This was a beautifully strange story, filled with otherworldly traditions from different cultures, fey and family. I enjoyed it quite a lot but it was immediately apparent that it was a translated book because it read a little off to me. Regardless of the difference in speech, it was a very interesting kind of fairy tale.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a Russian Fairy Tale!

📖📚Happy Reading!📚📖

4.7/5🌟

This is a reread from my childhood! Overall a very lovely and whimsical story full of magic, control, and love. I would consider this book a very tame and innocent YA fiction. Very clean compared to most YA these days. I'm clearly an adult now and I still very much enjoyed reading it again even with the main character being a very mature 15/16 year old. This is not a heart pounder. Very much for classic enjoyment♡

"Wildwood Dancing" is a beautiful retelling of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses", a fairytale I might not have paid too much attention to if not for how much I loved this book. "Cybele's Secret" is just as amazing and full of pirates and a smart, adventurous girl! ⚔️? #favoritebooks

A re-telling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses story, and a thumpin' good one. Set in the Carpathian Mountains, it has dancing young ladies, fairy folk, Night People, good guys in disguise, bad guys who think they're the good guys, suspense, a healthy dose of romance (of course), and a helpful and adorable sidekick frog. It felt a bit slow to get going, but once it did, I loved it.

Marillier captured my heart and my imagination with this richly told story of five sisters who dance on the full moon with creatures from another world. Recognizable fairy tales are reinvented, a family stands together through faith and trust, and even true love makes an appearance. I'm swooning over here.

A great idea with a story that lives up to it. WildWood Dancing is magical, fantastical, and a wonderful read. With twists and turns, intensely strong female characters, and unique mythology and mystique, this book is most certainly worth the read.

Joriebooks @CynCruz23 yeah she did. She was very excited. 8y
LeslieO That reminds me that on my son's first library visit he picked a picture book (?) called I Think My Daddy Drinks too Much. And I could not talk him out of it. At the check out I had to tell the women that my husband never drinks! 8y
Joriebooks @LeslieO I had to pick the books for her, she only 3 months old. 8y

Love this book, I bought it for the cover which to this day remains one of my favorites. A combination of the 12 Dancing Sisters and The Frog Prince fairy tales masterfully done. There was a well struck balance between the relationships between the sisters and romance.
