Whose Body? | Dorothy Sayers
post image

I‘m giving up on the audiobook. The narrator is very high-pitched and her accent is such that I often cannot understand her. So I slow her down and heavens that‘s just dreadful. So I‘m switching to the ebook. But Lord Wimsey is getting on my nerves with his long-winded irrelevant speeches and odd ways of speaking. “What?” I also detect a strongwhiff of anti-semitism. I‘ll make it to the end; it‘s short but not making a good start of it. ⬇️

Texreader And I forgot, Wimsey breaks out in song periodically!! And so does the narrator. I ordinarily like some musical accompaniment but this is just too much!! 2d
Sace The narrator in my audiobook is good. It feels a bit like an exaggerated David Niven. Exaggerated 20s posh accent I guess. Kinda funny…until you get to any talk of Levy. Strong whiff indeed. 2d

The FMC was a bit bitchy to the MMC, but it turned out she had good reason. This ended up being really sweet! I could see this being a Netflix holiday movie.

I liked this, a research station in Antarctica is attacked because of a virus found in the permafrost, leaving the cook & a gruff (former military) scientist on the run through the frozen conditions
The romance was fun, the action& setting was interesting… but I didn‘t like the villain POV or care who was really behind it or any of the “black-ops” stuff.. could have just kept it a regular woman & regular-ish man in this tense situation.

I enjoyed the story and discussion with the #NancyDrewBR group. I'd read the 1937 edition and I love the cover. It did feel very dated, however. Another car runs into Nancy's, and it costs her only $5 to get the bumper repaired!

I feel I have to explain that there was a naughty dog in the story, and not that this was a “naughty“ book. 😄

The local police have their hands full when a famous author‘s wife is found dead in what appears to be a ritual murder. Multiple murders later, it seems they are linked…someone is looking for and killing witches. But oddly they seem to have a role in their own murders. So for most of the book, the police are following this very logical conclusion…until it goes off the rails in an almost completely different t direction. Sadly this feels like 2 ⬇️

Texreader plots smushed together. The resolution seems to try to continue with the witchcraft theory while playing another context. Confused? Yea, me too. Meanwhile, there is a side story taking place some time ago in Venice and the primary detective. I‘m puzzled while she‘s concerned a hot-shot detective when the other cops almost always have to snap her out of some daydream. Before before the book goes off the rails, it‘s a complex and well-written ⬇️ 3w
Texreader mystery and for that it‘s a pick, barely. I think the author tries to do too much with this first in a series and he really didn‘t know how to conclude the book & took off on a tangent to solve the murders. (edited) 3w

ImperfectCJ I'm not sure I've ever added a book to my TBR because of a dedication, but I might just do that with this one. 1mo

This was a really cute book and makes me want to find the other Busy Betty books. I loved the illustrations too. A great read for #WinterGames2024 and earned me a whopping 485 points for Team #XmasChaCha #ChristmasChapterChasers! Find those #WGWordSearch words - they‘re a goldmine! Also crossed off #LetterW for #ChristmasAtoZ @Texreader

It‘s time to plan your books for the #ChristmasAtoZ readathon and bingo game. Starts December 1 and lasts for the duration of #wintergames2024. Be sure to tag @Texreader

You may use the first letter of a book title (with or without the beginning articles “A” or “The”). Or use the first letter of the author‘s first or last name. That means all books count somehow! Identify the letter you used with #letter__ (e.g., #letterW). Have fun!

LiseWorks Love it! 1mo
PuddleJumper Fun! 1mo
StayCurious Fantastic! 1mo
