Did a little, very needed, shopping therapy today. Ended up bring these four beauties home to add to my shelves.

#WyrdAndWonder day 10 (belatedly): mixed feelings
I love the bold ideas in Joshua P Johnson‘s epic debut: prairie seas, water wars, ships powered by burned bone and song. It‘s original and breathtaking. But it felt a leetle under-edited to me - noting that I read an ARC so the final edition may have been tightened up. Very much looking forward to the sequel to see where the story leads and how Johnson has developed his already impressive craft.
Randomly found this book today and it sounds really good.
The first book in a new environmental epic fantasy series set in a world where ships kept afloat by magical hearthfires sail an endless grass sea.
There‘s more to it but that‘s the gist of it.

I enjoyed this! Don't go in expecting fast paced pirating. It's so much more about the world and the story instead. I don't think it will be for everyone but it was for me. A few lulls in the pace but the world was just so interesting. The conflict of fighting over resources is definitely something we can all relate to.
I will definitely be pre-ordering the next book.
Starting another one of my most anticipated reads of the year!
Unpopular opinion.
I did not like this book. It was too much bildungsroman and not really adventure.

This is such an original concept: a water-scarce world of miles-high prairie ‘seas‘ sailed by magical ships. Kindred tends the fire that keeps a ship aloft, but when her crew fall foul of political shifts ashore, they strike out for pirate-haunted seas. Treachery, romance, and environmental themes feature in this memorable debut. I suspect I‘ll be thinking about it for a long time.
"Sing, memory," the storyteller says, the words low and quiet, a dirge for the darkness.
