To All the Boys Ive Loved Before meets Youve Got Mail in this charming and hilarious rom-com following two teen booksellers whose rivalry is taken to the next level as they compete for the top bookseller bonus. Shoshanna Greenberg loves working at Once Upon, her favorite local bookstore. And with her moms fighting at home and her beloved car teetering on the brink of death, the store has become a welcome escape. When her boss announces a holiday bonus to the person who sells the most books, Shoshanna sees an opportunity to at least fix her car, if none of her other problems. The only person standing in her way? New hire Jake Kaplan. Jake is an affront to everything Shoshanna stands for. He doesnt even read! But somehow his sales start to rival hers. Jake may be cute (really cute), and he may be an eligible Jewish single (hard to find south of Atlanta), but hes also the enemy, and Shoshanna is ready to take him down. But as the competition intensifies, Jake and Shoshanna grow closer and realize they might be more on the same page than either expects

This book is marketed as To All The Boys I Loved Before meets You‘ve Got Mail. I should have loved this book. I just didn‘t vibe with the main character. I still love YA, even at my age, but I didn‘t find this adorably dressed, book store employee teen…well…likable.

I have a rather specific request for help/recommendations. My very hard to buy for husband has asked for audiobooks in French for his birthday. He enjoys intelligent mysteries or non fiction like history or biography. He wants books originally written in French, not English in translation. Anyone got some favorite French authors/titles for me? Thanks!

LiteraryinPA One of my favorite mystery authors is Michel Bussi. I‘ve only read his work (about 5 of his novels so far) in the English translation but I assume they‘ve got to be available in French too, right? My absolute favorite was After the Crash. Just awesome! 2y
LiteraryinPA Looks like it‘s Un avion sans elle in the original. 2y

This is a cute book! It‘s not going to make it onto a list of my favorites but I enjoyed it. Shoshanna is very relatable as a fellow tiny bright-colors-wearing book lover. All the characters are really fun and the teen romance is a small delight. Also, it works surprisingly well as a Jewish romance at Christmas time (it helps that they work in a mall).

shanaqui Hmmm, sounds like fun! 3y

I finally got myself one of these bathtub trays. Feeling very fancy. However, I suspect my husband will enjoy it more than I do. The tub is so deep that I can‘t actually rest the book on the tray while reading 😂 but he‘s taller so he may be able to.

This is fun so far! And I find Shoshanna, who is Jewish, fits inside a children‘s play castle, and has a crush on a book nerd with biceps, quite relatable (even if I am bisexual). This line is especially great since my husband‘s name is Daniel 😁

4✨ I read this in almost one sitting. It was a really cute rom-com set at Christmas time. Most of the time we are at a book store which I completely enjoyed. There was quite a bit of characters, working in different locations as well that was hard at first to keep track of. Other than that I just smiled through the whole read. Read for #YABuddyRead @megnews

megnews Hi! I‘m sorry I missed posting questions for this this month. My work schedule has been hectic. 3y
Roary47 @megnews no worries! It was a fun read and I feel you on hectic with work. I hope your schedule stabilizes and you are able to rest. 💛 3y

Enemies to lovers is not my jam. Saving Grace: set in a bookstore. This would be a nice pick for Christmas/Hanukkah.

A thoughtful holiday romance. Enemies to lovers with several underlying problems to keep things interesting! Fabulously told.

I‘m subscribed to the www.everyday-reading.com email newsletter. Janssen Bradshaw from Everyday Reading sent an email with her 2021 Summer Reading Guide. I just wanted to share it here. There are a lot of book recommendations here depending on what you like reading or what you want to read. I haven‘t read any of these books.

Caption got too long to list all ? Tagged book is Dec fav, & listed are trigger warnings I managed to jot down:

#TheWideWindow - hurtful language describing indeterminate gender character ("monster" is used)
#IntheStudywiththeWrench - planing murder to look like suicide, manipulation & gaslighting
#NightOfTheMannequins - murder, suggestion of suicide, & gun zealot waving a gun around at a drive-in movie theater
#Lobizona - I.C.E. raids, sexism

Shoshanna's a frustrating character at first. She's true to her age, which is cool, but that means she's also a bit overbearing & immature. Her over-the-top start makes her growth that much sweeter & more satisfying as she learns to respect her friends' boundaries, communicate clearly w/her parents, and respect Jake despite their differences. That growth actually takes precedence over the romance, making it even sweeter when it finally emerges.

I requested this from the library last year, but maybe light and sweet wasn‘t what I was in the mood for this month. I kept rolling my eyes at Shoshanna‘s decisions and self-absorbed attitude. Typical teen, but it got old. I liked the bookstore setting and the diverse characters, but overall it was a meh read.

Adored this YA holiday rom-com! It was the perfect, light read for this week, and I breezed through it. It made me laugh out loud, tear up, and have all the feels. Shoshanna is a bold character, and although she may be seen as a bit unlikeble at first, she learns so much in the span of the novel and acts like a real teen on every page. I'm also a sucker for hate to love romance tropes, and this one is handled so sweetly. And great representation!

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.
