The Best of Friends
The Best of Friends | Lucinda Berry
An unthinkable tragedy forever changes a group of teens and turns family against family in this edge-of-your-seat thriller that begs to be read in one sitting. Best friends Lindsey, Kendra, and Dani endure every parent's nightmare when a tragic accident befalls their teenage boys, leaving one dead, another in a coma, and a third too traumatized to speak. Reeling from the worst night of their lives, the three mothers plunge into a desperate investigation of the bizarre incident. How could something so horrible happen in their wealthy Southern California suburb? They soon discover that the accident was just the beginning, and troubling discoveries lead to chilling questions: Do they really know their children? Do they even know each other? As more secrets surface, a fog of doubt and suspicion threatens to poison their families, their friendships, and the whole community. With the illusion of happiness and safety long gone, these women must now confront the hazards of heartbreak, the consequences of jealousy, and the dangers of living double lives.

This one was pretty slow, and really sad, but it was an okay study of characters and relationships, and had a few surprises, too.

Spending the evening drinking wine out of my official mad-at-the-world mug (it‘s too small for coffee, but the perfect size for booze).

I‘m really happy with the way my #BookspinBingo board shook out. I was already planning to finish the center square today, and it‘s on the same row as my #doublespin, #lmpbc, and #foodandlit books. Could this be the month I finally get a Bingo???!!!???

Side note: what do y‘all use to make your Bingo boards? I love the way it looks when I do it on Pic Collage, but it takes forEVER. Excel is easy, but I‘m never as happy with the results.

This was okay.

It's about three best friends whose sons become best friends.

Tragedy strikes when the boys get ahold of a gun while they are under the influence.

This wasn't the page-turner that I hoped it would be, but the last page made me gasp with a twist I hadn't picked up on.

4/10. Three kids get ahold of a gun while under the influence. One kid left too traumatized to speak. Had potential but did not deliver. Very redundant. Explains the same situations 3-4 times in a row, and there are a lot of characters but none interesting enough to be memorable. The ending was a dud.

6-10-23: My 65th finished book of 2023! Dani, Lindsey and Kendra have been best friends since elementary school. Now, their teenage sons Caleb, Jacob and Sawyer are also best friends. After an accident leaves one dead, one in a coma and one too traumatized to speak, the mothers lives are changed forever. This was a very sad story from beginning to end. The marriages and friendships were full of tragic flaws. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣6️⃣5️⃣

The plus side of my son volunteering at the library: having somewhere to donate my used books and an excuse to go in and look around for things to check out. The downside: the friends of the library room you have to walk through to get into the actual library 🤣. But I got all three for $7 so not too bad!

This book was... okay. It was a cup of tolerable tea.

The story is pretty tragic, it was difficult to keep track of which wife was married to which husband, who's kid belonged to which family, etc. It took a lot more effort than I wanted to spend.

It addresses gun violence, LGBTQ+ youth trauma, and relationship drama (least favorite part).

These parents had a lotttttt of drama.

Overall, it was alright, I would not read it a second time.

This is the sort of book that is much better when you read it rather than listening to the audiobook version. I started it out on audible, then switched to the ebook. I didn't like the narrators. They made the story seem shallow for some reason.
As soon as I started the ebook I was hooked. Couldn't put it down! Did not expect a few of those twists, especially at the very end.

Oooh this was a good mystery. I thought I had it figured out until it was divulged! These 3 women drove me nuts.m; most of the time they sounded like high school girls rather than adults. I cannot imagine going through what they went through though, every parents worst nightmare. With that being said, trigger warning there is teen death and this book. Book #64 in 2021

The only reason I didn‘t like this book is because I was left with too many questions that I NEEDED to be answered. #LucindaBerry #4star #4starreview

While my issues with The Best of Friends kept me from loving it, I think Berry raised an important question for readers to consider: How well do we really know anyone, including our best friends, our spouses and our children? I think the story needed a little more seasoning to it, but what the author aimed to accomplish is commendable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book grabbed me from the very beginning. Three best friends are involved in a tragedy leaving their mothers who are also best friends trying to piece together what happened and how to live with it.

Holy cow! This book was an emotional roller coaster ride! When an accident involving three best friends happens, in which one dies, one is in a coma, and one won‘t speak, their parents are determined to find out exactly what happened. I could not put this book down! I loved every page of it and I will definitely be reading more from the author! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!

I felt really invested in this thriller, and was really disappointed when the ending fell flat for me. I know the journey's most of the fun, but I read it in a few days and now I'm just left with a bad taste in my mouth. The conclusion wasn't all that surprising, and the final twist at the end wasn't a twist. I had high hopes for this book but was ultimately let down. I guess that's 2020 in a nutshell.

This book is going to make you do some serious thinking. So very serous crying. And bring out some serious anger. This told from the three main people affected, Lindsey, Kendra, and Dani. Each a mother who is dealing with loss. In different ways but still the same too. 5/5 stars

Kendra,Dani and Lindsey are best friends from childhood. They were ecstatic when their sons Sawyer,Jacob and Caleb became just as close as they were growing up.

Their lives were shattered by a horrible incident where one boy dies, one boy is in a coma and the other is so traumatized he cannot speak.

They must confront the secret lives of the children they thought they knew.

If your looking for a new psychological thriller this is it!
