Hmmm….I need to think about this one more. Soft pick but might grow on me more. Very ambiguous ending. About grief, anger, feeling on the outside because of economic background, cultural background, temperment, and evil evil Alexa-like devices. I did take several Mexican-Indigenous/American authors with me on vacation, and enjoying the overlaps. Vampires of El Norte and tagged both feature cucuys, the Spanish/Mexican boogeyman.

Will be looking into reviews. I don‘t think I understood everything. But I did like it somewhat. I‘m just not used to this kind of cosmic horror. I wonder if that‘s the right term. *Supernatural, curses, reanimation, grief, loss, confusion, little bit of tech thrown in.

Loving this pyschological horror book. Beware of Alexa! And how lovely to read a horror book with the daily vulture who comes to the pool at our Mexican rental house. We‘ve had black vultures, turkey vultures, tropical king birds and a snake all come for a drink.

I finished last night and I'm still reeling trying to sort it out. Bearifully written cosmic horror that takes a deep dive into grief and a resulting haunting the MC can't hide from. Is it literal? Psychological? Spiritual? I have no idea but I wouldn't mind annotating a copy and trying to find out!

If there is one thing I hate, it's cleaning my upstairs bathroom. Others don't bother me but this one just never seems to look clean due to age and old staining that I've never been able to remove. It's disheartening and puts me off as I like to see progress when I do things

Today, I realized that it doesn't matter. Just because no one else will notice doesn't mean that I won't and I hand scrubbed every inch. To me, it's a job well done

Like a Black Mirror episode from Hell. Impressively written and eerie. Well worth your time.

Vera & Thiago start experiencing glitches with their Itza, an Alexa style device, that's initially moderately obnoxious but humorous (random unauthorized purchases) & soon escalates into more sinister territory. This is only one aspect of the novel & after Vera's tragic death Thiago understandably struggles to find a place. One of the strengths of the book is how memorably Moreno writes of the grieving process. Throw in a couple of clever👇

I'm only a little over 40 pages in, but this is a pretty creepy book so far. It seems to be about a haunted Alexa, which is a bit redundant 🤣

I don't feel like this one ever quite decided what it was about. But then, this could also be related to my recent habit of defaulting to assuming a first-person narrator is suffering from psychosis when weird things happen to them. Maybe I'm stuck in a particular perspective that keeps me from seeing other interpretations of a novel.

We read this for our horror/sci fi book club and while I liked it, it's a little too vague. I thought this was going to be a story about a renegade/haunted Alexa like device story, but that's only part of it. It did make for a good conversation, but I was one of the few that actually seemed to like it (most of our members don't read a lot of horror).

This book has many facets. It could be a horror novel, but it is also a deep exploration of grief. I couldn‘t put it down. That‘s why I picked this quote for my image because you indeed slide into a spiral with Thiago. The writing is funny, sad, dark, and thought-provoking. I picked it up on a whim at the library. I‘m glad I did.

After losing his love, Thiago, becomes increasingly disillusioned with his life. When weird occurrences keep happening. He makes a break for a new life far away from his troubles or at least he hopes.

This book is truly one of the more deeply creepy things I've read in while. Its a sinking pit of dread and sorrow until all that's left is the darkness. No escape just the dark. A confusing, bizarre enjoyable as hell read.

As is generally the case with horror, this book contains disturbing details, some of which will punch the reader hard in the heart. None of it is without purpose. Moreno blended tragedy and terror in a remarkable way, so I‘ve no regrets about the devastation I chose to endure. It takes more than talent, but a true understanding of human beings, to create a novel like this, and I felt it was profoundly moving and utterly shocking.

Wow! Gus Moreno impressed me with this book. The way he blends the grief of a husband with the spine chilling supernatural is superb.

I don't want to give away too much with this one because having it unravel around you with make the suspense even better as you read.
