I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.

Day 142th

Join the fun if you want!

This was a re-read for me before I read the rest of the series. A very readable book which was a joy to read, setting the early life of Julius Caesar into context. Good action, good dialogue and great flow within the story. A must read for any historical fiction fan, Conn Iggulden does such a great job with his writing. A real pleasure to read his books. Now to continue with the series while I have all the characters in mind. #24B4Monday

The end of Day 1 of the #24B4Monday Readathon and clocked up 5hrs 24 mins and 367 pages. It was a work day but had hoped to get to 6 hours so a bit of catching up to do.

Spent all reading time today on the Emperor series by Conn Iggulden, and a very enjoyable time it was.

Started listening to the first book in the Emperor series by Conn Iggulden whilst I continue with #40miles20hours. Only counting the audiobook listening I am doing whilst walking.

On day 3 I did 1.16 miles, less than yesterday, and listened for 24 minutes whilst walking. Brings overall total to 3.33 miles and 1 hr 9 mins.

wanderinglynn Way to go 🙌🏻 5y
DGRachel How is this on audio? I‘m having trouble picking my next audiobook. 5y
Andrew65 @DGRachel Enjoying it so far. 😊 I struggle for audiobooks at times and some don‘t work for me but this one is. (edited) 5y

Mehso-so

If I would have read this as a traditional book I would have bailed after the first 100 pages (that's the point where I usually evaluate if I should continue with the book). As an audio book this worked better. Especially the fighting scenes gave nicely energy for my evening jogging. The story wasn't really that interesting for me but maybe I'll try the second book as well since it's set in Egypt. That might be interesting. We'll see. 🤔

The first book of Conn Iggulden‘s Emperor series about Julius Caesar. We meet Caesar as a boy, known as Gaius, and follow him as he grows and makes his way to Rome. A lot of political turmoil and a few battles. It was not the most thrilling of Iggulden‘s novels but I think this is a good start for telling this mammoth story and I‘m already onto the next and loving it!

TK421 I loved this series! 5y

Finally starting this book which I have had for years! Doing it on both audiobook (during the week‘s commute) and physical book around the commute. Expect to enjoy this! #MountTBR #YearoftheChunkster

Melissa_J I thought you‘d already read this one. I enjoyed the first two books, but never carried on with the series for some reason. 6y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J Similar to me and the Genghis Khan series after Genghis Khan died, but I still own them all. 6y
Martta I have a similar situation; this has been waiting on my bookshelf forever. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think. Maybe I'll get to it at some point also. 6y

Final used bookstore #bookhaul of 2017. 😊

Andrew65 I need to read the Emperor Series! 7y
DGRachel @Andrew65 I need to finish his Conqueror series and Wars of the Roses first. I‘ve been debating on the Emperor series for years, but my local used bookstore had books 2-4 a couple of months ago, so I grabbed them and asked them to put me on the hold list for books 1 and 5. With today‘s purchase, I just need #5 and I‘ll have the set (and no excuses 😂). 7y
mjdowens I️ want this series! Thanks for posting it😊 7y

Andrew65 @DGRachel Think I only own 1, 3 and 4 but the library has the others. I just need to finish the Conqueror series first too! 7y
DGRachel I just read that this was his debut novel. I‘m even more excited about it now. 7y
Grrlbrarian Love the Ruth Downie series! 7y
DGRachel @Grrlbrarian It was a total impulse grab! 7y
Grrlbrarian @DGRachel Good impulse! 👍 If you love Lindsey Davis‘ Marcus Didius Falco / Helena Justina series, you‘ll enjoy this. And if you haven‘t read Davis but love historical mysteries, RUN for a copy of 7y
DGRachel @Grrlbrarian Just bought it on Kindle. 🤞🏻 7y
drokka Medicus is fantastic! 7y
Grrlbrarian @DGRachel The way Davis‘ characters deepen their relationships over time is spellbinding. And she‘s a classicist herself, so Davis‘ first-century Rome feels amazingly real. Enjoy! ❤️ 7y
rwmg @DGRachel @Grrbrarian @Andrew65 Lindsey Davis and Ruth Downie are both wonderful if you like historical detective fiction and very true to history. I have heard that Conn Iggulden plays much more fast and loose with history in his Emperor series. 7y
DGRachel @rwmg That‘s interesting. My knowledge of Ancient Rome is limited, so I‘ll keep that in mind while I read. I just love Iggulden‘s style. 7y

Some recent #bookmail that was another #blameitonlitsy purchase. 😃

I may have mentioned once or a hundred times that I love historical fiction. I also love Roman history, so this is moving right up my tbr.

DGRachel I ❤️ Conn Iggulden, but I haven't tried this series. Looking forward to seeing what you think! 7y
TK421 I love this series! Conn Iggulden is one of my favorite authors of historical fiction. He really draws you in to Cesar's life from dual points of view. Once you read this book you will want the rest of the series. 7y
