Yay! I‘m way behind in week 27 (July 4th- 10th), but… I was able to finish Esther in one sitting because it‘s an amazing story. When I was reading it I related it to when Hitler persecuted the Jews. I wish we would have had an Esther then. What a horrible time in our history, but I‘m glad it didn‘t happen in Esther‘s time. 💛 #Biblebuddyread @BookBabe

I am so far behind in 1 Chronicles 8. To be honest I got discouraged with researching the names and getting nothing out of it anymore. So I decided to stop researching names so I could get back into just researching what the word is telling me. I‘ll continue studying the names next year from here, but just can‘t find joy in it anymore and stopped reading all together because of it. 😢 #BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

sherri Whoa. Your margin list is impressive. It never occurred to me to look up the meaning for each name. I can see how this would be insightful and also tiring. Bravo for giving yourself permission to stop and just be in the Word. 2mo
BookBabe Amen! I agree with @sherri , it‘s so important to give yourself permission to stop things that aren‘t serving you, whether reading plans or personal challenges like this. Just be in the Word and let it bless you, let it reinvigorate you! ❤️❤️❤️ 2mo
Daisey I completely agree with the previous comments. I found this an interesting idea, but don‘t let it overwhelm you. You can always come back to it just a book or so at a time later. 2mo

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Deuteronomy 9-11.

BookDadGirlDad Deuteronomy is by far my favorite “book“ of the Holy Scriptures!!! 7mo
BookBabe @BookDadGirlDad Nice! That‘s original ☺️ My favorites are Proverbs, Psalms, and John. 7mo
BookDadGirlDad @BookBabe I like me some Psalms. I could chew on 119 for a long time. What translation do you read? I've found the NLT to be easy to read and rather enlightening in many spots. 7mo
BookBabe @BookDadGirlDad Psalm 119 is really beautiful, thank you for calling it out! I read it before, on my first read through the Bible, but as you know, different parts of the Bible jump out at you differently when you read them at different times in your life. I revisited it in my NIV and found a LOT of its verses highlighted. 😄 That‘s a wonderful psalm. I‘ve sat with Psalms 23 and 91 the most for the past couple years. 6mo
BookBabe @BookDadGirlDad My favorite version of the Bible so far has been the NIV, though I have not actually tried NLT yet, but I‘ve been wanting to. ☺️ This year I decided to try the CSB which was recommended to me, and there‘s a lot to appreciate about that version too. (edited) 6mo

As we have discussed a bit, I can‘t say I‘m especially impressed with this book as a Bible study guide. One of the reasons for me is that it has just one devotional per week and only sometimes a prayer for the week. With that being said, I did appreciate this last week‘s prayer and made a note of it to use again.

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Proverbs 8-11.
I hope you enjoy it! 😃

Butterfinger I have gotten behind. I stopped putting the Lord first. I'm glad you post these reminders. 7mo
wordslinger42 I loved today's reading! Spending that time with Him helped me to make a big decision this morning and I'm so grateful! @Butterfinger We all miss some days of reading sometimes. I know I certainly do! Maybe just jump back in with us now, instead of stressing about catching up 💜💜 7mo
BookBabe @Butterfinger I'm glad you said that...I was thinking about stopping the daily reminders if they aren't helping people. 🙂 It's really hard to find time in this busy life we live—we need to deliberately MAKE time for things important to us. I mentioned to the Littens on the Zoom that I think I'm going to have to start doing that thing Christian moms do: getting up really early to have their time with the Lord before the children are up and about. 7mo
BookBabe @wordslinger42 Amen! 🙌🏻 Thank you for sharing that encouragement! ❤️ I really enjoyed these chapters of Proverbs too. Through this reading, the Lord very directly addressed a situation I've been dealing with, and I received clear advice on how to handle it. God is so good!

Hey fellow #BibleBuddyRead Littens, it‘s time for the #WeeklyWrapUp! Opening the floor 👇🏻 for discussion about the last week‘s readings! What are your thoughts?

BookBabe Ok, so I know many people don‘t really “enjoy” Leviticus, and I‘ll admit that of all the books in the Bible it‘s not my fave. 😬 I have been doing my morning Bible readings with coffee and breakfast just because of the busy wife & mom factor – the only time I can watch or read anything (unless it‘s strictly audio) is when I‘m sitting down for a meal. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just the season of life I‘m in. (Cont…)👇🏻 7mo
See All 10 Comments
BookBabe … Soooooooo, the thing about Leviticus is it‘s not really appetizing for dining, am I right? 😯 I mean no disrespect to God‘s Word. But I really can‘t eat while reading about some of the things in Leviticus. Suffice it to say, I would not want to be a priest in those days, despite the honor of the position serving the Lord. 😐 7mo
BookBabe …Which I‘m guessing is why the author of our guide book decided to hop back & forth between Leviticus and Psalms, the latter being one of my favorite books of the Bible (as it is for many), which to me is like a breath of fresh air any time, and especially after Leviticus! 😬 7mo
jdiehr Aren't you glad we no longer have to make animal sacrifices? Can you imagine?? 7mo
Texreader I haven‘t had a chance to jump into this challenge yet, but I do remember reading Leviticus and it was very interesting from a historical point of view but truly overwhelming as well. And agreed not conducive to eating while reading 7mo
Allylu With the podcast I am following, I just finished Exodus and Leviticus! I feel really good about sticking with it these 51 days and it‘s all because of this group. Thank you so much. 7mo
Allylu And yes @BookBabe the flinging of blood everywhere would not be appetizing. With that I‘m off to make breakfast! LOL 😊 7mo
quirkyreader A friend from work and I were talking about all of the sacrifices. And it‘s a big logistical puzzle. Where in the heck were all of those animals and birds going to come from. 7mo

Mimi28 Cool!! I have that book!! I just have to find it, lol. I have turned a ton toward Christianity myself and that‘s why I‘m hardly ever on here. Not because of the content on here, because I‘m afraid to talk about it on here. 7mo
BookBabe @Mimi28 We‘d love to have you participate in our buddy read!☺️ Reading the Bible daily is a great way to diligently seek God & be rewarded by Him. I know what you mean, the Christian presence on Litsy is minimal—I think it‘s because many people who know the Lord are afraid of turning others off—so, let‘s change that and invite the Lord in!❤️ I knew THOUSANDS of people throughout my life and yet NOBODY shared the Gospel with me until 3 yrs ago🤯 7mo
BookBabe @Mimi28 I‘m now 3 years into my Christian walk and God has done amazing things in my life. I felt Him calling me for a couple years prior to that, it took a while for me to overcome fear and open my heart to Him. I‘m so glad I did!

I wondered why the author wanted to read Matthew between Exodus and Leviticus, but it totally makes sense to me. At the end of Exodus, you read about the making of the temple's veil and how it tore when Jesus was crucified. Then you see how the crucifixion tied to the offerings that the people had to do to wipe out the sin. #BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

In MT 12:31 I‘m having a struggle with this verse because clearly I‘ve highlighted this in my Olive Tree Bible before but it didn‘t dawn on me until just now … what is the difference between blasphemy against the Son of Man and the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? #biblebuddyread

MelAnn My NET version actually says “For this reason I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” 8mo
suvata Doesn‘t make any sense to me 8mo
BookBabe Thank you for bringing this up…I was wondering the same thing! 8mo
Butterfinger I have been thinking of this since I first saw your post. I needed to catch up on the reading. It is just a theory. What if it is alluding to the fact that the Holy Ghost is the last chance of Salvation. Son of Man was crucified - the people He wanted to save denied Him. But, He arose, ascended heaven and came back for the Gentiles. If a person blasphemes the Holy Ghost - there is no more chances. 8mo
MelAnn @Butterfinger oh that perspective certainly makes sense! 8mo

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Matthew 4-7!

I hope you enjoy it 😊

MelAnn Anyone draw a parallel from todays reading - Sermon on the Mount - directly following the week we read about the 10 Commandments where Moses met God on a mountain? 8mo
MelAnn I have so many things - when I saw what the reading was today, I was like “That is a lot of reading!” But I think it was smart to keep the sermon on the mount all together in one reading. This is my first time to read it in the Passion Translation! So, I got to experience this with fresh words and experience in a way. Plus, I just finished an amazing book on the beatitudes written by a friar recently. So gave me even deeper context today. 8mo
MelAnn It ends with “the crowds were dazed and overwhelmed by his teaching, because his words carried such great authority” and that‘s how I felt after today‘s reading! 8mo

It‘s time for the #WeeklyWrapUp! What are your thoughts and takeaways from this week‘s reading?

Remember to check the hashtag #BibleBuddyRead so you can see and interact with all the posts!

BookBabe Is everybody else‘s Litsy working right? Because mine is not. I don‘t know if it has become incompatible with  devices or if I just have bad luck with it or what. It takes me several tries, usually a half hour of trying, to tag everyone. Then sometimes I find that it tagged people seven times, like today – sorry about that – and other times I find that it did not tag them at all. Very frustrating. 😑 8mo
wordslinger42 No worries 💜 Litsy has been working fine for me, at least on my phone! This week was hectic, so I still have a couple days' worth of reading left, but I've been enjoying it 😊 8mo
See All 14 Comments
BookBabe My big takeaway for this week‘s reading is God‘s forgiveness, mercy & grace. I am astounded by the way Israelites kept turning away from God, disobeying his orders and commands. Even for things that are easy to avoid. I can understand messing up on one like “love your neighbor as yourself”, because that‘s really hard. But to mess up on worshiping a stupid golden idol calf that you made yourself, and you know it‘s not really a god? Come on!🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
BookBabe Also interesting and surprising to me is God‘s willingness to make adjustments to His plans because of our prayers and acts of faith & obedience. Matthew 21:22 says “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” And even in the Old Testament we see evidence of that. Twice God was persuaded not to kill, once because of an act of faith and once because of prayer and petition— 8mo
BookBabe —respectively, when Moses‘ wife circumcised their son, and when Moses petitioned God not to kill the Israelites after Aaron made a golden calf idol for them to worship. And I‘m truly amazed that God allowed Aaron to be the high priest in His tabernacle even after that huge blunder. 8mo
BookBabe @wordslinger42 I‘ve been trying on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook, and Litsy is not working properly on any of them. 🤷🏻‍♀️ ……I‘m so glad you‘re enjoying the reading! ❤️ 8mo
Booksarelifeaddict @BookBabe love this! I just actually bought a new Bible that came in yesterday that I‘m excited to get into! 8mo
BookBabe @Booksarelifeaddict Yay! 😃 🙌🏻 Which one did you get? 8mo
Booksarelifeaddict @BookBabe I got The Message bible by Eugene H Peterson! I‘ve been using the One Step Closer bible from Candace Cameron Bure which I absolutely love but just wanted something totally different! 😊 8mo
CogsOfEncouragement All those details of how to build the things, how to sew the things…I listened while walking and I think it was easier to tune in that way than having my mind wander as I read how many cubits for this or that.
The golden calf is such a sad passage for me. The people lose hope so quickly. I don‘t want to be like that. So important to stay mindful of all God has done when we find ourselves in a period of waiting.
8mo
BookBabe @CogsOfEncouragement Amen, well said about the waiting! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I agree 💯%. Also agree about all those details and specs…would‘ve been great to listen while walking but we‘ve been having a lot of single digits and temps in the teens here. 8mo
BookBabe @Booksarelifeaddict Let us know how you‘re liking it! I wanted different this time too so I‘m doing mostly CSB instead of mostly NIV from my prior read-through. 8mo
Booksarelifeaddict @BookBabe I definitely will! I believe this bible reads more like a book so you understand it better! I will post about it once I dive more in 8mo

It‘s Saturday, our final reading day of the week for the #BibleBuddyRead! Today‘s reading is Exodus 37-40.

Booksarelifeaddict How do I join the Bible read or the next one? 8mo
BookBabe I‘m glad you asked! 😃 I was just going to comment on the other post that you‘re welcome to join us! You can sign up here: https://bit.ly/BBR2022 We read through Genesis and we just finished Exodus. We‘re starting Leviticus on Monday (edit: I‘m guessing!). I‘d suggest starting there and catching up with extra chapters from Genesis and Exodus a little each day if you can 🙂 So glad to have you join our #buddyread! 😃🙌🏻 @Booksarelifeaddict (edited) 8mo
BookBabe @Booksarelifeaddict Okay sooooooo I *assumed* we‘d be in Leviticus next, but I was guessing without looking at our guide book “The Bible in 52 Weeks”. I‘ll have to wait until Monday morning to see what it actually says (one of the downsides of physical books is you don‘t always have them at your fingertips!). I think I saw someone mention that the guide book has us switching tracks? I‘m sorry, I should‘ve checked first before assuming! 🙈 8mo
BookBabe @Booksarelifeaddict I saw a couple Littens mention that we‘re on to Matthew next…oops, my mistake! After doing all of Genesis and Exodus I had figured that we were completing that entire story before moving on…but, apparently not! 🥴 8mo

I really connected with Moses desiring to see God‘s presence. It came right after God told Moses that His Presence would go with him. Moses communed with God. He performed miracles. He had an intimate connection to God that no one else had & yet he still wanted to SEE.

For me - to experience the Presence of God daily-so close & intimate, others can see it radiating from within me. Anyone else? #biblebuddyread

BookBabe Yes! That‘s what I want too! 🙌🏻❤️ 8mo

#biblebuddyread Today I spent dwelling on the immensity of this journey. I googled what Sinai wilderness looks like - my Sunday school teachers always used the word “desert” instead of wilderness which conjured up a completely different image and I never understood how a mountain where God met Moses for the 10 Commandments was in the middle of drifting sand dunes of my imagined desert. So much came up for me today.

BookBabe I too wondered about the landscape. Wow, was it like this? This looks downright hostile. 😳 I would not want to be wandering in this for 40 years! 8mo
MelAnn @BookBabe google Mt Sinai … Sinai desert … Red Sea (that lake bed is rocky - not sand, not easy) 8mo
cwarnier I always find it interesting how we teach the OT Bible stories to kids. Many times they are not very Biblically accurate. I am just as guilty at using the curriculum I am given and just go with it. I just think about the the book of Exodus and how most kids stories don't even mention Aaron. Or how Aaron was the one who led the people in making the golden calf. 8mo
BookBabe @cwarnier Yup, good point! 8mo

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Exodus 30-32!

MelAnn I had so much come up today! It hit me to sit and imagine and dwell in how immense this whole thing is. How many Israelites left Egypt? Then, the half sheckel / fifth ounce of silver tax… What did the wilderness look like? I‘ve been in Google looking at photos… imagining the Israelites journey to this point. Sunday School failed me - big time! 8mo
BookBabe I‘ve wondered what the wilderness looked like too. I‘ve thought it‘s desert…but that can look pretty different depending on the area. Frustrating that Sunday School failed you…I don‘t know what‘s worse, going and having that happen, or not being exposed to it at all like me! @MelAnn (edited) 8mo
Mtroiano @MelAnn @BookBabe I love how passionate you both are. You can see the fire the Lord has set in your heart to want to know Him and his Word intimately ❤️ 8mo

Mtroiano I have a book rec that I think you guys would enjoy. It‘s a biblical theology of idolatry and it traces the theme of idolatry throughout the Bible and focuses a lot on this golden calf moment. 8mo
MelAnn @Mtroiano ooh that book sounds good! Thank you! 8mo
BookBabe @Mtroiano Amen! 💕 Thank you for your encouraging comment! ☺️❤️ And thanks for the book rec, it sounds interesting! 😃🙌🏻 8mo
