I finally finished this, it only took me an extra 6 months. I am so pleased with where this book lead me, and how much I learned. I can't remember a time I intentionally read the entire Bible. There were lots of times I read parts for classes and Bible studies l, but not just to read the entirety of the Bible.
Thank you @BookBabe for starting me in this journey.

cwarnier It was also very interesting reading from the NEw Living Translation, as I my go too versions are New International Version or English Standard Version. 9mo

#BibleBuddyRead
So last year I started this journey of reading the Bible in a year, using the tagged book. I made it through week 36, September before falling apart.
I have decided to try again this year, but picking up were I left off, in the books of Acts.

I wasn‘t impressed with this Bible reading plan and devotional. I appreciated alternating between the Old & New Testament, but I would have liked some actual explanation of the choices for order, especially the few books completely out of order. I liked that the devotionals were only weekly, allowing me to mainly focus on the Bible itself, but this also meant they didn‘t add much to the experience.

#BibleBuddyRead #Christian

wordslinger42 I didn't enjoy this plan either and ended up stopping in the midst of Proverbs. The big chunks of chapters to read each day in the OT (especially Proverbs) was overwhelming for me and I wasn't getting anything out of it. I definitely discovered that I prefer more "easy-going" reading plans! 1y
BookBabe I was not a huge fan of this plan, either—I wish she would‘ve explained why she was making us jump around, there were times when I found it quite jarring. 1y

I‘ve reached a point where I‘m struggling to keep up with my Bible reading and determined not to give up. Some of these final books for the year are tough going and ones I‘ve never made it all the way through. This morning I caught up on devotionals and realized I have several Psalms to read. I‘m looking forward to reading a few more with my coffee before church.

Anyone else want to check in on progress?

#BibleBuddyRead

Roary47 I‘m very behind too! I‘m in Ezekiel. I‘ve been behind since we skipped Ezra and Nehemiah! Where you are did you get to them. I‘m concerned they were forgotten! 😭 Isaiah and Jeremiah were difficult reads (edited) 1y
Daisey @Roary47 I actually looked at the full schedule a bit after we skipped them and they are in there later, but I haven‘t gotten to them yet. One of the things I would have liked to see included in the devotional is some reasoning for the order. A lot of it is just a mix of Old and New Testament, but I‘d like to see the reasoning for moving these out of the book by book order. 1y
Roary47 That makes me feel better. Yes, I agree. For the most part it goes back and forth except then. I‘ve read through the Bible several times, but I‘m getting a lot more out of the readings this time. Have you had any good devotional that go more into depth of Isaiah? I‘d like to learn more in that book. 1y
See All 11 Comments
Daisey @Roary47 No, I don‘t have any suggestions for Isaiah. This is the first time I‘ve made it all the way through some of these and to be honest sometimes I‘m just making it through without further reading. I hope to go back to some books that I kind of skimmed through this year for more in-depth reading next year. 1y
quirkyreader I‘m excited about everyone‘s progress. It can be rather daunting to presume that anyone can make it through the Bible in a year. Everyone see things differently ,and they need to take their time to see the truth in the words, before moving onto what is the next reading. I‘m all up for continuing the #biblebuddyread into perpetuity. The translation I plan on working with in 2023 is “The New English Bible”, also known as the NEB. 1y
Daisey @quirkyreader @Roary47 Although I don't plan to read it through completely again next year, I love the idea of continuing to use this hashtag with whatever Bible reading I'm doing in order to keep checking in with a group of supportive readers. 1y
BookBabe With 5 immediate-family birthdays, and especially with trying to get enough sleep to keep in good health, I‘ve managed to get behind, so those of you who have also, you‘re not alone! Seems I can only read the Bible at a relatively quick pace if I‘m the only person in the room, and that generally only happens if I‘m willing/able to get up very early, before everyone else. So now I‘m playing catch-up. 😳 1y
BookBabe The prophets are slower reads for me, and while I‘ve preferred the CSB version for most books of the Bible so far, I find that not to be the case for the prophets. I‘ve been comparing versions for Ezekiel in particular and I think the ESV is preferable for the prophets. Maybe that‘ll be one of the next versions I read. I‘m trying to stick with the CSB for this read, while supplementing with other versions as needed and as time allows. 1y
BookBabe @quirkyreader Love what you said about how we need to take the time to see the truth in the words! ❤️ Amen. 1y
BookBabe @Daisey I love the idea of continuing to use the hashtag to keep checking in with a group of supportive readers for whatever Bible reading we‘re doing! 🙌🏻 1y
Daisey @BookBabe The prophets are definitely tougher reads for me as well. I am just kind of making my way though them on this read, staying close to on schedule, but I plan to come back to them again for more depth. 1y

I am so far behind in 1 Chronicles 8. To be honest I got discouraged with researching the names and getting nothing out of it anymore. So I decided to stop researching names so I could get back into just researching what the word is telling me. I‘ll continue studying the names next year from here, but just can‘t find joy in it anymore and stopped reading all together because of it. 😢 #BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

sherri Whoa. Your margin list is impressive. It never occurred to me to look up the meaning for each name. I can see how this would be insightful and also tiring. Bravo for giving yourself permission to stop and just be in the Word. 2y
BookBabe Amen! I agree with @sherri , it‘s so important to give yourself permission to stop things that aren‘t serving you, whether reading plans or personal challenges like this. Just be in the Word and let it bless you, let it reinvigorate you! ❤️❤️❤️ 2y
Daisey I completely agree with the previous comments. I found this an interesting idea, but don‘t let it overwhelm you. You can always come back to it just a book or so at a time later. 2y

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Deuteronomy 9-11.

BookDadGirlDad Deuteronomy is by far my favorite “book“ of the Holy Scriptures!!! 2y
BookBabe @BookDadGirlDad Nice! That‘s original ☺️ My favorites are Proverbs, Psalms, and John. 2y
BookDadGirlDad @BookBabe I like me some Psalms. I could chew on 119 for a long time. What translation do you read? I've found the NLT to be easy to read and rather enlightening in many spots. 2y
BookBabe @BookDadGirlDad Psalm 119 is really beautiful, thank you for calling it out! I read it before, on my first read through the Bible, but as you know, different parts of the Bible jump out at you differently when you read them at different times in your life. I revisited it in my NIV and found a LOT of its verses highlighted. 😄 That‘s a wonderful psalm. I‘ve sat with Psalms 23 and 91 the most for the past couple years. 2y
BookBabe @BookDadGirlDad My favorite version of the Bible so far has been the NIV, though I have not actually tried NLT yet, but I‘ve been wanting to. ☺️ This year I decided to try the CSB which was recommended to me, and there‘s a lot to appreciate about that version too. (edited) 2y

As we have discussed a bit, I can‘t say I‘m especially impressed with this book as a Bible study guide. One of the reasons for me is that it has just one devotional per week and only sometimes a prayer for the week. With that being said, I did appreciate this last week‘s prayer and made a note of it to use again.

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Proverbs 8-11.
I hope you enjoy it! 😃

Butterfinger I have gotten behind. I stopped putting the Lord first. I'm glad you post these reminders. 2y
wordslinger42 I loved today's reading! Spending that time with Him helped me to make a big decision this morning and I'm so grateful! @Butterfinger We all miss some days of reading sometimes. I know I certainly do! Maybe just jump back in with us now, instead of stressing about catching up 💜💜 2y
BookBabe @Butterfinger I'm glad you said that...I was thinking about stopping the daily reminders if they aren't helping people. 🙂 It's really hard to find time in this busy life we live—we need to deliberately MAKE time for things important to us. I mentioned to the Littens on the Zoom that I think I'm going to have to start doing that thing Christian moms do: getting up really early to have their time with the Lord before the children are up and about. 2y
BookBabe @wordslinger42 Amen! 🙌🏻 Thank you for sharing that encouragement! ❤️ I really enjoyed these chapters of Proverbs too. Through this reading, the Lord very directly addressed a situation I've been dealing with, and I received clear advice on how to handle it. God is so good!

Hey fellow #BibleBuddyRead Littens, it‘s time for the #WeeklyWrapUp! Opening the floor 👇🏻 for discussion about the last week‘s readings! What are your thoughts?

BookBabe Ok, so I know many people don‘t really “enjoy” Leviticus, and I‘ll admit that of all the books in the Bible it‘s not my fave. 😬 I have been doing my morning Bible readings with coffee and breakfast just because of the busy wife & mom factor – the only time I can watch or read anything (unless it‘s strictly audio) is when I‘m sitting down for a meal. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just the season of life I‘m in. (Cont…)👇🏻 2y
See All 10 Comments
BookBabe … Soooooooo, the thing about Leviticus is it‘s not really appetizing for dining, am I right? 😯 I mean no disrespect to God‘s Word. But I really can‘t eat while reading about some of the things in Leviticus. Suffice it to say, I would not want to be a priest in those days, despite the honor of the position serving the Lord. 😐 2y
BookBabe …Which I‘m guessing is why the author of our guide book decided to hop back & forth between Leviticus and Psalms, the latter being one of my favorite books of the Bible (as it is for many), which to me is like a breath of fresh air any time, and especially after Leviticus! 😬 2y
jdiehr Aren't you glad we no longer have to make animal sacrifices? Can you imagine?? 2y
Texreader I haven‘t had a chance to jump into this challenge yet, but I do remember reading Leviticus and it was very interesting from a historical point of view but truly overwhelming as well. And agreed not conducive to eating while reading 2y
Allylu With the podcast I am following, I just finished Exodus and Leviticus! I feel really good about sticking with it these 51 days and it‘s all because of this group. Thank you so much. 2y
Allylu And yes @BookBabe the flinging of blood everywhere would not be appetizing. With that I‘m off to make breakfast! LOL 😊 2y
quirkyreader A friend from work and I were talking about all of the sacrifices. And it‘s a big logistical puzzle. Where in the heck were all of those animals and birds going to come from. 2y

Mimi28 Cool!! I have that book!! I just have to find it, lol. I have turned a ton toward Christianity myself and that‘s why I‘m hardly ever on here. Not because of the content on here, because I‘m afraid to talk about it on here. 2y
BookBabe @Mimi28 We‘d love to have you participate in our buddy read!☺️ Reading the Bible daily is a great way to diligently seek God & be rewarded by Him. I know what you mean, the Christian presence on Litsy is minimal—I think it‘s because many people who know the Lord are afraid of turning others off—so, let‘s change that and invite the Lord in!❤️ I knew THOUSANDS of people throughout my life and yet NOBODY shared the Gospel with me until 3 yrs ago🤯 2y
BookBabe @Mimi28 I‘m now 3 years into my Christian walk and God has done amazing things in my life. I felt Him calling me for a couple years prior to that, it took a while for me to overcome fear and open my heart to Him. I‘m so glad I did!

I wondered why the author wanted to read Matthew between Exodus and Leviticus, but it totally makes sense to me. At the end of Exodus, you read about the making of the temple's veil and how it tore when Jesus was crucified. Then you see how the crucifixion tied to the offerings that the people had to do to wipe out the sin. #BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

In MT 12:31 I‘m having a struggle with this verse because clearly I‘ve highlighted this in my Olive Tree Bible before but it didn‘t dawn on me until just now … what is the difference between blasphemy against the Son of Man and the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? #biblebuddyread

MelAnn My NET version actually says “For this reason I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” 2y
suvata Doesn‘t make any sense to me 2y
BookBabe Thank you for bringing this up…I was wondering the same thing! 2y
Butterfinger I have been thinking of this since I first saw your post. I needed to catch up on the reading. It is just a theory. What if it is alluding to the fact that the Holy Ghost is the last chance of Salvation. Son of Man was crucified - the people He wanted to save denied Him. But, He arose, ascended heaven and came back for the Gentiles. If a person blasphemes the Holy Ghost - there is no more chances. 2y
MelAnn @Butterfinger oh that perspective certainly makes sense! 2y

I need to remember this often. It is so hard teaching this year, even in a Christian school where I can share my faith.

BookBabe Wow. Yes, I can only imagine! Praying for you and the students. 🙏🏻 2y

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Matthew 4-7!

I hope you enjoy it 😊

MelAnn Anyone draw a parallel from todays reading - Sermon on the Mount - directly following the week we read about the 10 Commandments where Moses met God on a mountain? 2y
MelAnn I have so many things - when I saw what the reading was today, I was like “That is a lot of reading!” But I think it was smart to keep the sermon on the mount all together in one reading. This is my first time to read it in the Passion Translation! So, I got to experience this with fresh words and experience in a way. Plus, I just finished an amazing book on the beatitudes written by a friar recently. So gave me even deeper context today. 2y
MelAnn It ends with “the crowds were dazed and overwhelmed by his teaching, because his words carried such great authority” and that‘s how I felt after today‘s reading! 2y

BookBabe @MelAnn Love that! 😃❤️ 2y
BookBabe @MelAnn I agree — it was smart to keep the Sermon on the Mount all together in one reading 👌🏻 2y
BookBabe I wonder what it‘s like in the Passion Translation! You‘ve got me curious. 🙂 @MelAnn 2y
BookBabe @MelAnn I missed that parallel! I was so caught up in all the major important teachings of Jesus in this reading. 2y

I wrote these out in my journal and made notes about each in man. I found it interesting how little of them I knew anything about. Only 14, 1/3 if them could I give some fact about.

Well for a pretty big change of pace, the #BibleBuddyRead is moving on to Matthew! Quite a big departure from all the drama in the wilderness with Moses. Today‘s reading is Matthew 1-3.

I‘d like to open up the floor for discussion, hopefully we can hear from some of you that we haven‘t heard from in a while. 😊 Let‘s discuss below! 👇🏻

MelAnn Yep huge shift 😂 2y
quirkyreader I like that the reading of this book are not chronological to the standard Bible. Is this giving everyone the taste of possibly trying a historically chronological Bible in the future? 2y
BookBabe @quirkyreader I‘ve been interested in that idea! Sounds like a good way to experience the Bible at least once. 2y

Week 5: Matthew!
I prefer when a reading plan mixes it up like this. #BibleBuddyRead

Daisey Agreed! I‘m looking forward to switching to Matthew this week. 2y

Yay! I caught myself back up. I was struggling with all the decorating in the last couple of chapters. #BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

Daisey Those sections got long for me as well! 2y
Butterfinger "decorating"? Was it just me or was it repetitive? @Daisey 2y
Roary47 @Butterfinger @Daisey very repetitive. 2y

I love this. She is comparing our hard times with the anointing that the Old Testament priests needed to enter the Tabernacle. I'm enjoying #BibleBuddyRead and learning so much with this read and discussion. Thank you @BookBabe

BookBabe Yay! So happy to hear this, that means so much to me! 😃❤️❤️❤️ 2y
