It‘s time for the #WeeklyWrapUp! Let‘s have a discussion here with our thoughts and takeaways from this past week‘s reading. 😃👇🏻

jdiehr I feel bad not participating as much as I would like to, but my devotional has me reading different parts of the Bible! I started with several chapters in Genesis, then read Job, and now am back in Genesis 😄 4h
LiteraryinLawrence Are you feeling any better yet from the pneumonia? 4h

Sleepswithbooks Gorgeous photo 4h
Daisey One of the things I found interesting on this read through was that I had basically forgotten Moses had a wife as she is just barely mentioned and returns to her father when Moses goes back to Egypt. (edited) 3h
BookBabe @LiteraryinLawrence thanks so much for asking. Pneumonia is NOT fun. I‘m feeling maybe a teensy bit better. Also got a positive Covid test back. 😐 Praying for healing. This has been 2 weeks solid already 3h
BookBabe @Sleepswithbooks Thank you! 😊 3h
BookBabe @Daisey I had forgotten her too…but if it weren‘t for her, Moses wouldn‘t be alive! God was going to kill him for not fulfilling the circumcision covenant. But his wife came to his rescue and circumcised their son, so God let Moses live! 😳 3h
BookBabe @jdiehr no worries! 😄 3h

I love this so much. This whole reading today was about how we don‘t do this alone. We need our people to step in and hold up our hands for us when we can‘t. We need to delegate work to others to leave us in our zones. #biblebuddyread

So far, so good, for the #BibleBuddyRead
How are you doing on your reading?
I‘m on a schedule to finish my “week” on Thursdays. This gives me a free Friday when I do a lot of Bible reading for a ladies Bible study I attend. This morning I took a walk and listened to the chapters on The Bible App.

BookBabe Sounds lovely! ❤️ Well, I was on track but fell behind the last couple days because of spending all day dealing with doctors…but I‘m hoping to get caught up soon. 2d
BookBabe I‘m really enjoying doing this buddy read with all of you! It‘s so much better than alone! 2d

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Exodus 8-11.

After spending the entire day yesterday dealing with doctors and pharmacies, I‘m now a bit behind myself.

They did a chest x-ray and found spots on my lungs that shouldn‘t be there ☹️ I likely have pneumonia. Prayers are appreciated ❤️

Meanwhile, if you all would like to continue the discussion, you‘re welcome to do so below in addition to your own posts. 👇🏻

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Exodus 4-7!

Looking forward to your posts. Please feel free to share your thoughts here too👇🏻

MelAnn In todays reading I kept thinking Moses had dementia or was drunk when he wrote it - or maybe the translators were. It seems like everything was repetitive and then Moses kept saying he couldn‘t do it, he was a lousy speaker. How many times have we said we can‘t do it - totally missing the point that it‘s not about us - but what God can do? 3d

#BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

1) I don't know if there is regret, but I always wanted to get my doctorate in education. I know I wanted it so bad, that is why I started all the book challenges a few years ago. I knew it wasn't the time for me - my daughter was getting ready to start her college phase.

2) Right now, I am working on my knitting. I'm getting a lot of support which surprises me.

3) My fellow teachers. It has been a

Butterfinger very difficult year and I am praying and trying to lessen their loads by volunteering to do little things for them like watching their classes so they can take a break during my planning. 5d
kspenmoll You are so thoughtful! Thank you for all the things you are doing to support fellow teachers. And they are not “little”! I am so grateful to all the “ little” things my fellow teachers, paras, students, parents do for us. We need each other to continue on… (edited) 5d

Today is catch-up day for the #BibleBuddyRead 🙂

BTW, I‘ve been *trying* to tag everyone on each post, but Litsy is glitching big time, whether on the app, mobile browser, or desktop browser. So please don‘t wait to be tagged to interact…just tap the hashtag #BibleBuddyRead and see all the posts there, or scroll through my profile.

cwarnier Thank you for all of your hard work with this. I really enjoy the discussion we have had.
I know it must be hard feeling under the weather.
BookBabe @cwarnier Yes you‘re right, it is. But a comment like this makes it all worthwhile. ☺️ Thank you, your comment made my day. ❤️ I‘m enjoying the discussion too. 6d
Roary47 I‘m catching up today and still need to look up Jacobs family names in chapter 46. Ironically, just read the story of Joseph in my oldest‘s Veggie Tales story book so it was recap. Hehe. 6d

You guys. 🤦🏻‍♀️ This past week has been ROUGH. Sorry I didn‘t yet post the #WeeklyWrapUp.

However, it has occurred to me that it makes more sense to post it on the weekend, after we‘ve done all the readings for the week, so that‘s what I‘ll do going forward.

Let‘s discuss below! 👇🏻

What are your thoughts & takeaways from this week‘s reading?

Remember to check the hashtag #BibleBuddyRead so you can see and interact with all the posts!

EadieB I learned that even though we are sinners God loves us and remains faithful to his promises for us. (edited) 6d
BookBabe @EadieB Yes! 🙌🏻 6d

BookBabe Is it just me or was Joseph toying with his brothers? 😂 6d
BookBabe I can‘t say I blame him…they were HORRIBLY wicked to him. I‘m impressed that he was able to forgive them and bless them after all that. I like Joseph 🙂 He was upstanding and of good character. I like that he didn‘t let that floozy suck him in to her web of sin. I can understand why Joseph is such a popular name! 6d
Butterfinger I think Joseph could have been a little brat. These are just my thoughts - he was the one who tattled on Reuben and he knew he was the father's favorite so when they came to him for food, his bratty self came through. Just me imagining - not based on Scripture. 6d
MelAnn Joseph is my people 😂 6d
quirkyreader Even though Joseph was the favourite, it was Leah and her children who ended up being the favoured ones. 6d

Wow, I‘m so under the weather I didn‘t even know what day it is…thought today‘s Sunday. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Today‘s reading for the #BibleBuddyRead is Genesis 42-46.

Looking forward to seeing your posts! ❤️

cwarnier Why does Genesis switch between Jacob and Israel? God changed his name, but it goes back and forth? 1w
Butterfinger I noticed it too @cwarnier I need to look back and see if there is a pattern. Like when it is talking about family - Jacob and talking about the family's destiny - Israel. 1w
See All 15 Comments
Butterfinger I don't think I will be able to join tonight. I'm suffering from a cluster headache and this is my third day with it. I am just not feeling well. 1w
EadieB The rest of Genesis is about Joseph, a person I am familiar with. I‘m looking forward to Exodus. I love 💕 Moses‘ story. Always felt sorry for him because he was punished and never was able to enter The Promised Land. (edited) 1w
Crazeedi I'll be up to dat with my reading and ready for the coming week! We are going to have snowstorm and then frigid weather later so I plan to just stay in. I am taking notes on what I'm reading. And making comments to myself about how things just show the continuity of Gods plan. The things Abraham Isaac and Jacob do that will be part of the Law given to Moses in the other books of the Torah. They were already pulling themselves together as Gods chos 7d
Crazeedi Gods chosen people 7d
BookBabe @EadieB I believe you meant that Moses was never able to enter the Promised Land—he was able to enter Egypt. Yes that‘s rough. I always felt bad for him too. To have done all that work all those years and not get to enter the Promised Land…scary to think about. God doesn‘t mess around when it comes to taking His glory. 6d
EadieB @BookBabe Yes I was talking about Moses. Shows that we need to listen to God and what he asks us to do and follow his directions. (edited) 6d
BookBabe @cwarnier @Butterfinger Yes I noticed that too, the flipping between Jacob and Israel 6d
BookBabe @Butterfinger sorry you‘re not feeling well either 😕 6d
BookBabe Just to clarify so no one gets confused: Moses was raised in Egypt, and God prohibited him from entering the Promised Land, the land of Canaan, which in the future would become Israel, because Moses stole God‘s glory by disobeying God‘s instructions and striking the stone.

EadieB @BookBabe Thanks for clarifying that. I fixed my post. 6d
BookBabe @EadieB ☺️❤️ 6d
BookBabe @Crazeedi Yes! Love that! 🙌🏻❤️ 6d

I got behind on chapters this week but caught up this morning. I always find Joseph‘s story fascinating.

I‘ve been combining my print Bible with the Bible app and this Daily Bible podcast on my morning drive to work. I like this podcast as all of it is already posted and the readings are clearly labeled. So when we start reading books out of order, it will still be easy to find them. I‘ve also been adding in the Daily Grace podcast some days.

BookBabe Nice! 😃 I agree, Joseph‘s story is fascinating! I‘m doing the same combo except I hadn‘t tried the Daily Bible podcast yet, but I‘ll check that out next. 2d

Hi everyone, today is Week 2 Day 5 of the #BibleBuddyRead.
Today‘s reading is Genesis 37-41.

Looking forward to your posts and your thoughts on today‘s reading! Feel free to chat about it below. 👇🏻

EadieB I'm up-to-date with the readings. @BookBabe You would probably get more responses if you tagged people. 1w
MelAnn I attended the second of three funeral this week - all out of town. Im keeping up just haven‘t posted much since been driving etc 1w
MelAnn I really appreciate you posting these even though you feel like crap! I know to come look for these posts. I‘m losing days like socks in a dryer due to three funerals out of town this week and hubby‘s new work schedule so this helps so much!!! You are in my daily prayers for recovery. Covid is nothing to sneeze at .. well… there is lots of sneezing 😂 Give yourself some grace and we will, too! Don‘t worry about tagging me. Post is enough. 1w

BookBabe @MelAnn I‘m so sorry for these losses you‘ve experienced. 😥 May the Lord comfort you and give you His peace during this trying time. 🙏🏻 6d
EadieB @BookBabe OK no problem! 6d
BookBabe @MelAnn @Daisey thank you so much for understanding, and for your prayers and well wishes. I still feel like a complete wreck, but I‘m trying lol ❤️ 6d
BookBabe @cwarnier This is my second time reading the Bible, and I‘m picking up on so many things I missed the first time! Largely because the first time most of the names were unfamiliar to me. But now I‘m like “ohhhh, it‘s THEM! So that‘s why that happened!” It‘s exciting. Makes me look forward to deeper understanding in future readings! 6d

BookBabe Thank you for your prayers for our health ❤️ @Avanders @Mtroiano @CogsOfEncouragement 1w
tpixie Get well soon! Here‘s my COVID-19 RECS: 1w
tpixie You want good circulation everywhere & good filling of your lungs

Get Oxygen Sat monitor- Measure 4 times a day if it starts dropping below 91- 90 then you need to be seen, ASAP. Especially if it‘s staying down low. Measure after having on finger for 60 seconds

Thermometer-you may not develop a fever. But good to have in hand

Take vitamin D 2000 units a day
vitamin C 1000 units a day
tpixie Take aspirin 325 mg daily for at least 3 weeks if you test positive (make sure there are no interactions with other medications/medical conditions)
( other recs are low dose aspirin 81 mg)

Zinc may be helpful , but there are concerns re: overdose (25- 50 mg daily for 5 days

Quercetin 250 - 500 mg twice a day for 5 days- helps absorb zinc

Pepcid 20 mg 1-2 Times a day – connected to better outcomes
tpixie Vitamin B complex

Eat potassium rich foods
Bananas potatoes tomatoes, oranges avocados

Omega-3 fatty acids 1000 mg a day

Melatonin 3 mg at bedtime for 3 nights, then 6 mg q HS- for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects
( it may also help prevent Covid for anyone living with you)

No ibuprofen

** Sleep on the stomach- expands lower lungs, so less likely to get pneumonia
tpixie Breathing Exercises:
4 times a day do 2 reps:
take five deep breath‘s holding breath for five seconds after each breath;and then after 5 breaths, cough to expand lungs

Here‘s a video regarding breathing exercises

tpixie ** Keep hydrated- if you start getting diarrhea you may need Gatorade- if you‘re vomiting swallow at least one swallow of liquid every 15 minutes. This may be enough to keep you hydrated but not enough to trigger vomiting.

** Open windows in the room that you‘re in so you‘re not re-breathing the virus - to decrease your viral load- lower concentration, likely less symptoms
tpixie **The rest of the house should have windows open also to decrease viral load/ concentration

*** Don‘t lie down a lot - sit up all day to get good breaths to fill your lungs with air, not fluid
tpixie Try to go out of your house and walk around just a little even if just in your driveway a couple times a day for good circulation and to get your lungs expanded- otherwise frequently walk around your room ( wear a mask, shield, and gloves ( 2 sets - one for going out, one for returning) when walking through house to get fresh air and a tad of exercise) 1w
tpixie Here‘s a video in case you lose your taste and smell

tpixie ** some might not be necessary, since both of you are sick & you can be together. 1w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I hope y‘all feel better soon!! ❤️ 1w
BookBabe @tpixie Thank you for taking the time to share this advice. Do you work in the medical field? 4d
tpixie @BookBabe you‘re welcome ☺️ (yes) not certain about the zinc & quercetin, but it still pops up sometimes as a recommendation 😃 (edited) 4d

I haven‘t posted in a while because it has been back to work for me. Thing that got me the most that last time caught my attention. Why does Isaac do the same thing to the poor king Abimelech. Poor guy wants to do the right thing, but these guys keep claiming their wives are their sisters! Also poor Esau! I feel for him every time! #BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

Happy Monday everyone, hope you had a great weekend! ☺️ We‘re on Day 1 of Week 2 of the #BibleBuddyRead! 🙌🏻

It was so great seeing a bunch of your smiling faces on our first Zoom call! 🤗 Those who attended, thank you for coming, and those who couldn‘t make it, we missed you! Hopefully next time. ❤️

Well, a whole lot happens in today‘s reading…👀
So let‘s discuss below👇🏻in addition to your own posts!

#Christian #buddyread

BookBabe Genesis 22
Abraham tested
This is the first time I‘ve read this since having a child of my own, and this time it literally made me cry. 😭
See All 27 Comments
BookBabe Odd custom🤔…
Gen 24
Verse 2: why “put your hand under my thigh” to swear an oath? 😬
(edited) 2w
BookBabe Verse 6-8 Abraham was so adamant about the servant not bringing Isaac back to the land where his relatives were…I imagine that‘s because he wants his son to remain in what the Lord promised would be the Promised Land (the land of Canaan) 2w
BookBabe Genesis 24:12-14
I am so impressed with Abraham‘s servant‘s prayer! What wisdom was demonstrated here. 🙌🏻
BookBabe And here we meet Rebekah, after whom my darling daughter Rebecca is named! 🥰
Gen 24:16 - “The woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her.”
BookBabe Gen 24:22-31 here a gold nose ring and bracelets are condoned. I found that interesting. 2w
BookBabe Gen 24:45 “before I finished praying in my heart” — so it‘s OK to pray silently then? Because some respected pastors have said that prayer should be out loud. Not sure what the correct answer is on that. 2w
BookBabe Gen 25: 21 shows the power of prayer, and how sometimes God doesn‘t give something easily, even though it is His will for it to happen in His timing.
“Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.”
BookBabe Gen 25:28 is interesting:
Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau (who was a good hunter)…but Rebekah loved Jacob.
(edited) 2w
BookBabe Okay, those are some of the things that stood out to me…your turn! 😄 2w
curiouserandcurioser @BookBabe I think it is wonderful to pray out loud and that those are powerful prayers, but at the same time, i think that praying in our hearts is equally compelling, since God hears all prayers because, well 2w
Butterfinger I'm trying to look for-what is to come- in the promise of Jesus, the Messiah. And I think the sacrifice of Isaac was leading to God's sacrifice of His son. And Esau's birthright was not of money or land, but the promise of the One to come. Jacob wanted Jesus in his line - it makes me wonder why though. Was Jacob closer to God or was it because he knew his name would be known. Finding Rebekah is one of my favorite stories, even though it was an arranged marriage. 2w
Crazeedi @Butterfinger tammy that is a great observation! 2w
Crazeedi @BookBabe Jennifer thanks for hosting the Zoom. I'd like to mark down the Littens who were on! If y'all could post here!! 2w
Crazeedi @curiouserandcurioser agree it does the heart good to speak prayers at time! 2w
Mtroiano @Butterfinger ❤️ I love seeing the foreshadowing of Christ 2w
EadieB Embarrassed to say that I spent the whole time Saturday on Zoom trying to get into the meeting not realizing that all I had to do was click on the link. Thanks to @Crazeedi for letting me know afterwards! I'll be sure to connect better next time!

(edited) 2w
Crazeedi @EadieB ❤❤❤ 2w
BookBabe @curiouserandcurioser ha, so true! 😄❤️ 2w
BookBabe @EadieB Aww, I‘m sorry about that, what a bummer. Glad you know for next time! ❤️ 2w
EadieB @BookBabe I'm new to zoom so got a bit confused but that's how you learn so I'm ready for next time. 2w
cwarnier I always find it interesting to see customs that happen today and in Biblical times and how they change. One example is the "proposal". We think of a man getting down in one knee and giving the woman a ring. But with Rebekah she received a gold nose ring and bracelets. 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BookBabe I was wondering about this custom also… 2w
28 likes27 comments

I find Rebekah interesting. She really does not question Abraham's servant when he shows up at the well.
I would be very skeptical of this in my life. But I guess God was in control.

BookBabe I had that same thought! ☺️ 2w

#BibleBuddyRead friends: Would you be OK with resuming our reading on Monday, so that Sunday is always the 7th day and thus our “day off”?

I think that would feel better for me (as a lady of routines & rhythms), especially if we‘re having a Thursday weekly wrapup discussion. What do you think?

If so, we should use this weekend to explore additional resources & Scriptures and pick back up with Day 8 on Monday.

Hope to see you today in our Zoom!

Having struggled with infertility till about three years ago, this weeks readings really brought home the importance of what God allows and what God has ordained. Sometimes we lose hope and take matters into our own hands and it can break our hearts further, I remember the desperation of wanting my own child. And God answered my prayer at His timing not mine. #BibleIn52weeks #Godordained #GoodGoodFather

Great job with our first week, #BibleBuddyRead friends! 🤗 It‘s now Day 7: Catch up on any readings you've missed. 🙌🏻

I‘m already caught up on readings, but I want to catch up on some journaling and note taking today. 🗒. Aside from that I think I‘ll read a couple Psalms. 🙂

#Christian #BuddyRead

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m almost caught up! Will be tonight after work! Have a great day!! ❤️❤️ 2w
Allylu I‘m caught up with the reading, just listening to my podcast today. It includes Job and Proverbs now. 2w

SamanthaMarie I'm caught up with reading. I've been sitting with yesterday's reading a lot. It was sure a doozy. I will say, this is encouraging me to read even more in the Bible. I was reading some Psalms last night myself and I plan to start one of the gospels today. Already transforming my heart. ♡ 2w
CafeBookstelo Amen amen this challenge is making me see the word in a whole new way. I‘ve been through a Bible school program and have my certificate in theological studies and practical ministry and I am still learning every day in this challenge. I have read ahead to catch up knowing my days get busy and wow wow wow 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @SamanthaMarie I feel the same… a lot to take in!! 2w
Crazeedi I'm caught up with our readings. I'm also doing a daily reading with Truth for Life book. I am also reading Dennis Pragers Rational Bible, Genesis. He translates directly from the Hebrew. Gen 2:18 It is not good for man to be alone. I will make him a helper who is his equal." A bit different than what we may have been taught 2w
Crazeedi @CafeBookstelo @SamanthaMarie @Allylu yes, I learn and realize more every time I read scripture 2w
MelAnn I am caught up - I added a new element to my quiet time today .. so I prayed through a couple of Psalms of adoration … Rachel Balducci‘s new book really lit that fire under me on getting this added to my time! 2w
Daisey I‘m caught up with the reading as well. I also listened to a few episodes of A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace podcast. 2w
quirkyreader Sorry about not chiming in during the week. It gets crazy at work. I‘m up to 1 Chronicles, so I‘ve got the readings completed. 2w

So… I had more questions … like .. Exactly how long was Sarah with Abimelech??? Haven‘t found the answer to that yet but did find this which was interesting …

Here it is, fellow #BibleBuddyRead friends—the #WeeklyWrapUp!
So grab a coffee or tea and pour out your thoughts for the weekly reading! 😊 (You're welcome to copy and paste some of your favorite posts and comments from the past week below if you don't feel like typing afresh 😄)

What are some of your biggest takeaways/impressions/questions/thoughts on this past week‘s reading? 😃

Let‘s chat below! 👇🏻

jdiehr I just love the stories of the Old Testament! My devotional (Jesus Day By Day) made the point that Noah had to pick up his hammer and do the job God called him to do. I love that. May we all "pick up our hammers." 2w
BookBabe @jdiehr Yes! Amen to that! May we all pick up our hammers! 🙌🏻 2w
See All 10 Comments
BookBabe So that was quite a journey we all just took through Genesis! 😮 The overarching theme that I‘m noticing is the inherent sinfulness of mankind. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel really grumpy with Adam and Eve because of this? 🤨 Life was so wonderful and beautiful and perfect in the garden of Eden 🌺🌱🌸🌿🌳and then they MESSED.IT.UP. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2w
BookBabe And since then it has just been sin after sin after sin after sin, to the point where God had to wipe out the entire population of the earth except for Noah and his family. 🤯 But then after that there‘s all this yuckiness going on with Lot and his daughters, and with Sarah and her family, and it‘s just really disappointing to me. 😔
BookBabe I can only imagine how God feels, having created us and then watching all of this unfold. That was niggling at me the entire time I was reading the Bible the first time, just so much sinning against God. And by His chosen people no less! And He forgives and forgives and is so patient but mankind just continues to disappoint Him. 😥UGH. I hope someone else has a more positive and uplifting perspective on this!😭😩 2w
EadieB @BookBabe Even though Adam and Eve sinned, God still loved them and devised a plan to redeem them starting with the Abrahamic Covenant foretelling the coming of Jesus Christ to be our Savior! God is good! 2w
BookBabe @EadieB Amen God is so good! 🥰🙏🏻 2w
CafeBookstelo God is so good…His patience and love throughout history (especially as we are reading from start to finish) even this short time of ups and downs is so intense and again His love and patience oh my gosh…indescribable 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BookBabe I agree! I‘ve always heard people say that reading the Bible is like reading a novel and now I know why!! 2w

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘ve learned a lot thanks to you all!! Does it seem like the Lord has a sense of humor or is it just me?! Some of the things He said made me chuckle… 2w
Allylu I will look for your post! 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks This is on another subject! Jennifer are you still doing your beautiful art? I still have all of my bookmarks and I adore them! 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Allylu we discussed a lot on @Mjm1 post also! 2w
BookBabe @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks thank you so much for your kind words and enthusiasm for my art! 💕💞 I‘m so glad you‘re still enjoying your bookmarks. 💖 I‘m not sure there‘s a simple answer lol… As a new mom I find there is very little “me” time… Always so much to do, and keeping up with a toddler is no joke lol.😂 I have a box here of fresh new art supplies given to me by a dear friend, and I have yet to even open it. I hope to find time eventually 🙂 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Take time for YOU and doing the things YOU love too! I LOVED everything you did! But, I learned from experience to take time for yourself! Do you have anything left that you need to get rid of? I would buy them ❤️ 2w
Ddzmini Just started reading the Bible as this has been a goal of mine glad that others have the same goal 🤗📖 2w
Crazeedi @Allylu @BookBabe @EadieB @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks some thoughts- you do know that Islam says their roots are from Hagar and Ishmael. Also Lots daughters who sleep with him-begin the lines of the Moabites and Ammonites, future enemies of Israel. And I never remembered the 3 men(angels)who came included the Lorf 2w
Crazeedi Included the Lord. And Abimelech was a Philistine! So that covenant didnt last? Since David fought Goliath the Philistine? 2w
Crazeedi I never liked how Sarah treated Hagar, since shes the one who sent her to Abraham . 2w
Crazeedi Have you all ever watched the series on tv several years ago, called The Bible( I think that's what it was called) 2w
EadieB @Crazeedi Yes I knew that about Hagar and Abraham's offspring (Ishmael) is the root of the Arab tribes. Biblically, all Jews and Arabs are descended from Abraham, giving a total of up to 400 million people, out of a total of about 7 billion people on earth. (edited) 2w
EadieB @Crazeedi Yes I have watched the tv series The Bible. It was very good. 2w
EadieB @Crazeedi Sarah was so upset by the idea of Ishmael inheriting their wealth, that she demanded that Abraham send Hagar and her son away. She declared that Ishmael would not share in Isaac's inheritance. 2w
BookBabe @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I agree with your comment! I‘ve learned a lot too thanks to everyone here. And yes I agree, it seems like the Lord has a sense of humor 😄 I‘ve observed that in my own life as well 2w
BookBabe @Ddzmini Excellent! 😃🙌🏻 So glad you‘re making the time. Yes it‘s helpful to have company and shared goals 😊 2w
BookBabe @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks You‘re right, some “me” time is important. 🙂 Thank you so much for appreciating my work. ❤️ I do have bookmarks, prints, and cards left but they‘re all packed away in storage. 😕 When I eventually get them out, I‘ll let you know! 🤗 (edited) 2w
BookBabe @Crazeedi Yes, I heard that Islam says their roots are from Hagar and Ishmael. I wanted to post about that the other day, but somehow I couldn‘t find much about it on Google. Maybe I‘m just not a good Googler? 🤔 Lol. Glad you mentioned that 2w
Mtroiano @EadieB the 12 tribes are the descendants of Jacob, not Ishmael 2w
Mtroiano @Crazeedi @BookBabe I found a Wikipedia article about Ishmael that explains Islamic, Jewish, and Christian beliefs https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael 2w
Mtroiano @EadieB I think you‘re thinking of Rachel and Leah 2w
EadieB @Mtroiano Jacob is the grandson of Abraham. 2w
Mtroiano @EadieB yes, through Isaac, not Ishmael 2w
Mtroiano @EadieB but Ishmael isn‘t one of the 12 tribes 2w
EadieB @Mtroiano Abraham became known as “The Father of Many Nations” through a promise given to him by God. He has been venerated by three different religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. (edited) 2w
Mtroiano @EadieB Ishmael had 12 princes of his own but they weren‘t a part of the 12 tribes of Israel 2w
EadieB @Mtroiano You are right not 1 of 12 tribes of Israel but head of the Arab tribes. They are all descended from Abraham. (edited) 2w
Mtroiano @EadieB I‘m not arguing that Abraham isn‘t the father of many nations and a major part of the three Abrahamic religions. I‘m simply saying Ishmael is not one of the 12 tribes of Israel 2w
EadieB @Mtroiano yes you are right 2w
BookBabe @Crazeedi I‘m not thrilled with either Sarah or Hagar. Hagar mistreated Sarah first, she was basically like ha ha I got pregnant by your husband but you couldn‘t. 😮 So I understand why Sarah was inclined to be nasty to her. But the whole thing is Sarah‘s fault. Sarah should‘ve just waited on the Lord patiently and everything would‘ve been fine. But I understand it was a long wait and denying the flesh and the spirit is easier said than done 😐 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BookBabe ok thank you ❤️❤️ 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Mtroiano thank you for the link!! 2w
Mtroiano @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks you‘re welcome! 2w

Late getting my reading in. I am going to make more priority to do it in the morning. There has been a few things I wonder about. Such as unclean meat? Enoch the only person to never die to go to heaven ? Oh and the giants, I would‘ve liked more talk about them. #biblebuddyread @BookBabe

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I had the same question about the meat and why was Ham‘s son punished for seeing Noah naked when it was Ham and what happened?? @BookBabe @EadieB 2w
CogsOfEncouragement J Vernon McGee provides good commentary. You can get a little of it for free here: https://www.blueletterbible.org/Comm/mcgee_j_vernon/notes-outlines/genesis/genes... 2w
EadieB @Mjm1 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks The Bible teaches there are meats that are designated as “unclean” (or unfit) for human consumption. These meats include pork, shellfish and the meat of other specific animals, sea creatures and birds. These laws are not ceremonial, but rather, they reveal God‘s design of the animals and our digestive system. (edited) 2w
See All 20 Comments
EadieB @Mjm1 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Uncleanness separated a person from being able to worship at the temple. The emphasis was not on dirt but on God‘s definition of what is pure. (edited) 2w
EadieB @Mjm1 According to the Bible, Enoch and Elijah are the only two people God took to heaven without them dying. It may be that God desired to save Enoch and Elijah from experiencing death due to their great faithfulness in serving and obeying Him. Some speculate that they were taken in preparation for a role in the end times, possibly as the two witnesses in Revelation 11:3-12. (edited) 2w
EadieB @Mjm1 Giants play an important role in the biblical story, particularly in relation to their occupation of the Promised Land. As will be seen, Israel initially refused to enter the land because of giants, and only men of great faith (Joshua, Caleb, and David) were able to defeat them. The “sons of God” were spirit beings that mated with women and produced the Nephilim. (edited) 2w
EadieB @mjm1 God sent the flood to wipe out violent humans, including the Nephilim, seen in the language of “all flesh.” God continued the human race through Noah, a new Adam, who was not tainted by Nephilim blood. In spite of the flood, giants eventually made a comeback and dwelt in the land of Canaan. (edited) 2w
EadieB @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Nudity was a taboo in the ancient Israelite society, especially the nudity of one‘s parents. To see one‘s parents‘ nudity had the connotation of sexual intimacy and at times even incest or rape. All of these things may be implicit in the narrative, though the text is not clear about any of them. It may just point at Ham‘s lack of respect for his father‘s sexual life which he indiscreetly witnesses. 2w
EadieB @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks it is Ham's son Canaan and not Ham who is cursed; and it is Noah and not God who curses Canaan. In fact, God blesses all three of Noah's sons in Genesis 9:1 and then creates a covenant with them, their descendants, and all the living things of the earth in Genesis 9:9. Nowhere either here or elsewhere in the Bible does God take that blessing away. God's blessing overrides Noah's curse, even in a literal reading. 2w
BookBabe @Mjm1 Better late than never! 😊 For myself, I‘ve found that if I don‘t do my Bible reading first thing in the morning, the day gets crazy and I keep getting interrupted and it‘s close to impossible 😬 (edited) 2w
BookBabe @EadieB Thanks for all your info & insights! 🙌🏻 2w
EadieB @BookBabe You‘re welcome! 2w
BookBabe @EadieB I knew Enoch & Elijah were the only ones spared of death, but I didn‘t know why, or that they might be the two witnesses in Revelation! 😮🤯 Thank you for sharing this! 2w
EadieB @BookBabe You‘re welcome! 2w
BookBabe @Mjm1 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @EadieB When I read about Noah‘s drunken faux pas in his tent, I was shocked and confused about why his son Ham‘s reaction was an even bigger faux pas than Noah‘s…and also about why Noah chose to curse his own presumably innocent grandson as a punishment for it. 😳 Seems a bit…harsh? 2w
EadieB @BookBabe Some stories were handed down such as the curse on Canaan (who the Bible lists as the ancestor of the Canaanite people) was added to the story as a way to justify the wars against the Canaanites by the ancient Israelites described in the book of Joshua. 2w
EadieB @BookBabe Ham‘s sin is that after seeing his father lying naked in the tent, he does not cover him as would have been appropriate. Instead, he tells his brothers thereby shaming him. Because Noah said that Ham should be a slave to his brothers, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called the attempt to use the curse of Ham as an excuse for racism and slavery. (edited) 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you Eadie and Jennifer!! I have so many questions!! Now, I have some answers! I‘m so happy to be a part of this Bible study! @BookBabe @EadieB 🙏🏻❤️ 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BookBabe I did think it was harsh! 2w

I‘m wrapping up today‘s reading in the #biblebuddyread I was raised in a household & church where Scripture was important (though legalistically often misapplied to life) I won awards both solo & team for Bible knowledge. I‘ve taught classes since I was in the 9th grade. I was a favorite student. But never have I gone through the Bible start to finish. I am catching so much that I just don‘t remember or have noticed before.

MelAnn I have a sense of humor. It makes my classes I teach fun and interesting. I‘m amused at humanity & I marvel at God‘s interactions with humanity. But as a student some don‘t appreciate my humor 😂 When you grow up in a legalistic culture full of spiritual abuse - you either let the trauma guide you or you choose God to guide you & find a sense of humor. I chose the latter. 2w
SRWCF How fun to discover new things, and I love the approach you chose! You can either laugh or cry in this world, and you choose to laugh. Good on ya! 👊👊👊 2w
MelAnn @SRWCF thank you! 2w
See All 7 Comments
SamanthaMarie Oh my heart is so with you. You have to be able to laugh, that's part of being human right? And do we not think Abraham, Sarah, Noah, etc ever laughed?! There are absurdities in the Bible and I love how on your comment on today's post you imagined God's interaction with Abraham like that of a child. I was in legalistic and fundamentalist Christianity for too long, but I'm happy to be in a much better place with God. 2w
MelAnn @SamanthaMarie kindred spirits :) thank you for your endorsement! 2w
Butterfinger I choose the humor too. 2w
MelAnn @Butterfinger awesome! 2w

We‘re on Day 5: Genesis 16-18! Only one day left in this first week‘s reading! 😃🙌🏻

I‘m going to post some resources and a couple announcements today, so keep an eye out for those!

Love you all! You‘re adding a richness to this reading with your observations and thoughts which I really appreciate. 🤗

Opening up the “floor” below 👇🏻 for discussion in addition to your own posts. 😊

#BibleBuddyRead #Christian #BuddyRead

MelAnn I just posted this - but in the first verse today, I already have questions 😂 Was Abraham always so compliant with his wife‘s requests? 2w
BookBabe @MelAnn 😂😂😂 Right? 🙈 (edited) 2w
MelAnn Can you imagine what it was like the day Abraham came back to his household to obey God? 2w
See All 25 Comments
MelAnn I have never caught before that Yahweh was walking with two companions here on this planet… and came to visit Abraham and then go on to Sodom. It seemed he was going to check out what he had heard to see if it was true ??? Thought He is omnipotent? Why is that trip even necessary? So many questions today 2w
EadieB @MelAnn Sarah had been barren for a long time and sought a way to fulfill God's promise that Abram would be father of many nations, especially since they had grown old, so she offered Hagar, her maidservant, to Abram to be his second wife. They sinned as they did not fully trust in God. It was through Issac, Sarah and Abraham's son, that the promise was to be fulfilled. 2w
MelAnn That last part of today‘s reading!!! Reminds me of a parent with a child. Abraham kept coming back and lowering the number of the righteous in Sodom. I can just see God‘s face in reaction .. first time -“ aww, look how sweet and compassionate my boy Abraham is!” And then being amused to mildly amused to that last time “ok, son, that‘s enough.” 2w
MelAnn @EadieB oh I know that. It just amused me at the way the verse said that Abraham did what she asked. 2w
EadieB @MelAnn God reveals to Abraham that Sodom and Gomorrah are to be destroyed for their grave sins. God will judge and destroy those who chose not to repent. God's judgment also comes suddenly to the people. God's justice, in other words, should not be arbitrary, but should be based on evidence (edited) 2w
Avanders I appreciate you posting all these — it‘s great reading everyone‘s thoughts and comments! ♥️ 2w
SamanthaMarie @MelAnn Hahaha yes! I totally agree with you about all of this. Like girl, woah, hold onto your man. ? And then very much so about Abraham's interaction with God over Sodom. I love that Abraham "walked so closely" with God (like we were talking about!) that he felt safe to have that exchange with God. I too have never noticed until today about the companions that came with God. Very interesting!! 2w
BookBabe If anyone hasn‘t yet seen @MelAnn ‘s post today on Genesis 17:23-25, you are missing out! 🤣🤣🤣 Hit the nail on the head! 🔨MelAnn your post made me laugh out loud 😅🙌🏻 2w
BookBabe Ditto @SamanthaMarie ‘s entire response to @MelAnn 🙌🏻😄 Yes yes and yes! Same here. 2w
BookBabe @MelAnn I was going to say almost everything you did, but you said it so much better, more succinctly, and more humorously than I would‘ve! 😄🙌🏻 2w
MelAnn @SamanthaMarie I‘m making a list of people in Bible who walk with / encounter God as I go. I‘m not looking for things I already know in this process. I‘m musing over the details .. over God… humanity and how they intersect & interact. What might they have been thinking? Is God amused? The emotions. The reactions. The culture. I had a lifetime of the text. I want to soak this all in & look at the bigger picture in all of it! 2w
MelAnn @BookBabe lol thank you! 2w
Butterfinger @EadieB @MelAnn @SamanthaMarie @avanders I was thinking when Abraham was trying to intercede for the righteous, how it foretold Jesus as our intercessor. 2w
MelAnn @Butterfinger love that! 2w
BookBabe Also regarding Abraham‘s childlike pressing of the Lord with his questions…Just as an aside, the narrator‘s voice on the Bible app CSV version, when replying as the voice of the Lord, sounded very gentle and patient in this part. When I read it in a couple years ago without narration, in my mind the Lord did not sound so patient lol. 😛 2w
BookBabe @MelAnn Your comment starting with “I‘m making a list”… Love that you‘re thinking about those aspects! There is so much here to unpack! 😃🙌🏻 2w
BookBabe @Avanders I agree! 😃 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @MelAnn yes! I totally agree!! 2w
BookBabe Another thing that stood out to me is that here in Genesis 17, we witness the first Biblical name change. This happened quite a number of times…Abram ➡️ Abraham, Sarai ➡️ Sarah, Jacob ➡️ Israel, Saul ➡️ Paul, Simon ➡️ Peter, are a few examples that come to mind. 2w
BookBabe So clearly, names are important in what they represent. Pretty sure @Roary47 can attest to this with her incredible name study she‘s currently tackling 😄. Which I‘m sure is why the Lord Himself multiple times gave instructions to name a child a specific name…Jesus, John (the Baptist), Isaac, Ishmael, Hosea‘s children are a few that come to mind. 2w
BookBabe Speaking of which… @Roary47 When you get to Hosea‘s children‘s names…ouch 😓😬 2w
Roary47 @BookBabe just say an extra prayer for time for me when I get there. 🥰 2w

My book arrived today! Now to do some catching up. I‘ve read a fair amount of the Old Testament years ago when I found an ebook version of the Bible that was extremely accessible. Unfortunately I don‘t remember what version it was or even what app I was using to read it! So step one: find that Bible! #biblebuddyread #biblein52weeks

Texreader @CogsOfEncouragement Thank you!! I‘ll check it out. 3w

BookBabe I second the recommendation for the YouVersion Bible app! And if you‘re not sure which translation you‘d prefer, you can compare several in the app and see which one you like best. For accessibility and readability, I (in my limited experience) recommend the NIV and the CSB. 🙂 2w
BookBabe Also, hooray that your book finally arrived! 😃 Several versions in the Bible app have accompanying audio if that would help you catch up 🙂 2w
Texreader @CogsOfEncouragement @BookBabe I‘ve downloaded the app to my phone but cannot find where to compare Bible versions. I will try it on my laptop when I get a chance. 2w

BookBabe Sounds good! 🙌🏻 At your previous suggestion, I‘ll be posting a weekly discussion at the end of each week. 🙂 3w
Crazeedi @BookBabe great! I can just discuss on your post then. I just want to interact with everyone and I dont tag the whole list!! I will just post occasionally if I want to make a point. I appreciate you doing this 3w

I find it interesting to see the relationship if Abram and Lot. In ch. 13 Abram is able to let Lot choose which directions he goes, and then accepts going what seems like the lesser. Then in ch. 14 Abram is able to out aside all of their differences and misdoings and help rescue Lot. That is the interworkings of a strong man.

BookBabe Agreed! Those are all great points! 😃🙌🏻 3w
BookBabe What book/edition is in the photo? I like the format 🙂 2w

#BibleBuddyRead Day 4: today‘s reading is Genesis 13-15! I‘m loving the discussions we‘ve had so far. You‘ve offered really great insights!

Opening up the conversation. Feel free to share your thoughts below! ⬇️

#Christian #buddyread

SamanthaMarie I talk about this in my post, but what stood out to me today is that God tells Abram that his decendants will suffer as slaves for 400 years but then after there will be wealth. How often does suffering go hand in hand with beauty or goodness? I wonder why, I have my ideas, but it is a common thing in the Bible and I feel in life. 3w
EadieB @SamanthaMarie I think when you have to go through suffering in order to get to the wealth then you appreciate the wealth more and what you have accomplished in order to get there. 3w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @EadieB I think so too… 3w
See All 22 Comments
BookBabe @SamanthaMarie Thats a really good observation! 🙌🏻 3w
SamanthaMarie @EadieB @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BookBabe Absolutely!! I know when I finally hit a calm in life or a good point I soak it up SO much more now than when I was younger. Maybe ignorance isn't bliss. ;) 3w
Crazeedi @SamanthaMarie read Philippians 4:11-12. Paul says in all things we are to be content. 3w
Crazeedi The reading today underscores how much God favors Abram. And how wise Abram is, from letting Lot choose what land he wanted, to picking just 318 men to defeat all those mighty armies! And when he refuses to take anything from the king of Sodom, so as not to get beholden to evil 3w
SamanthaMarie @Crazeedi Also very true! A good practice to become disciplined in. ♡ 3w
BookBabe @Crazeedi Re: Philippians 4:11-12 Right. And that‘s not so easy. It comes back to the Lord wanting us to not murmur/grumble/complain. It‘s an ongoing challenge! 3w
BookBabe @Crazeedi Your takeaways from today‘s reading are so good! And that last part. 🙌🏻 Such wisdom there. I‘ve been trying to practice that in my own life. 3w
Butterfinger @Crazeedi that was what impacted me. When Abram would not accept anything from Melchizedek. You are of sin, you promote sin, and I won't profit from it. 3w
BookBabe @Butterfinger Yes exactly! 🙌🏻 3w
Crazeedi @Butterfinger read that again, I first wrote that down in my notebook, but it was the king of Sodom who he refused to take from. Melchizedek was the priest who was the man of God, Abram gave him 10% ( I think) . If you think about it that will become the tithe to God that his people follow 3w
Texreader Loving these comments. Hoping to get up to speed soon 3w
Butterfinger @Crazeedi oh man. I hate when I mess up. 3w
Butterfinger @Crazeedi but I appreciate you correcting me. I don't want to stay clueless. 😘 3w
BookBabe @Crazeedi You‘re right, thank you for catching that. I knew it was the king of Sodom that he refused gifts from, but I can‘t remember all these people‘s names lol. 😂 2w
BookBabe @Butterfinger don‘t feel bad, it‘s hard to keep all these details straight. I have a hard time with that myself. The more we read, the more understanding we will have! 🤗 (edited) 2w
Crazeedi @Butterfinger I hope I didn't offend you! I made the same assumption and had to reread!! 2w
Butterfinger @Crazeedi Absolutely not. I appreciate you telling me. 2w

Genesis 13-15 Abraham's faith and determination to stay clear of Melchizedek #BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

I hope I can keep this momentum going.

SamanthaMarie Keep it up!! I love that we get to all read the Bible "together." 3w
BookBabe Yes! Ditto what @SamanthaMarie said! 😃 3w

Halfway through. There are a lot of names in todays reading. 🤯Of course we all knew this would eventually happen. 😅#BibleBuddyRead @BookBabe

BookDadGirlDad I've been know to just skip over the names... 😁 😁 😁 3w
Butterfinger I thought of you while I was reading this morning. 3w
booksaremyfavorite I use the YouVersion Bible app and have it read the scriptures to me while I look at the text. So much easier to get through the passages with the names I can‘t pronounce. I used to skip these sections, but now I let the app read them to me. 3w
BookBabe Haha 😄 yup yup 3w
BookBabe @booksaremyfavorite I don‘t “skip” the names but Lord forgive me I do “skim” quickly over them, because I know most of them aren‘t going to stick in my head. This time I‘m immersion reading on the Bible app, and yes, having the narrator read the names out loud to me is a huge help! ….BTW we‘re only a few days into our #BibleBuddyRead if you want to join in! Signup link is in my bio 🙂 3w
