Another in this remarkable series featuring Comissario Guido Brunetti. This tagged book is all in the minuscule details of Brunetti‘s home/family life,& police work life. It‘s in home cooked meals, the love between he & lhis wife, & children, the book discussions, the coffee shops, the cafes, the walks through Venice‘s streets, over its bridges, & rides in its canal boats. It‘s in each of his unique work relationships. His decisions are by guided by his ⬇️

A leisurely read while on the train from Grand Central to New Haven, CT.- The delicate dance that he & his counterpart,Comissisario Claudia Griffoni step to when interrogating suspects, the coffee breaks, the descriptions of meals prepared by his wife, Paola, the conversations at the dinner table with their two children, the books they are both reading & discussions he has with his wife- all comforting & familiar to me.#CommissaroBrunettiNovel

random_michelle My favorite parts of this series are the city and the food.

It doesn't matter that the mysteries weaken, it doesn't matter that the kids never grow up, I keep reading about Brunetti to visit the city.

Ali Dawson & her cold case team investigates a murder that involves Ali traveling back in time to 1850. I admit, whimp that I am, that while reading about her adventures in 1850 at night, I had to wait until morning to continue. Too scary for me! Darklunarose I really enjoyed this book a few years back. And she isn‘t wrong about love. 2w
IriDas I‘m afraid I don‘t agree. If everything tells you to leave, you should look into that feeling. Because if you truly love, you won‘t get that feeling unless there‘s a very serious problem. 2w

Chrissyreadit @IriDas I think this is complicated and nuanced- and depends on the perspective of the quote for sure. You are right that too many times women stay in dangerous relationships with a misconception of love. Maybe the first step is defining healthy love, then feeling safe when it is healthy. 1w
kspenmoll @IriDas I truly appreciate your point of view and it certainly is valid. My perspective is different because of my 34 year-old marriage-early in our marriage my husband suffered a series of devastating losses: after 22 yrs.,he lost the job he was passionate about due to a buy out, his younger brother died suddenly, leaving behind an infant & 5 yr.old, his mother died of cancer. He succumbed to a deep depression. I was left to take care of ⬇️ (edited) 1w
kspenmoll @IriDas ⬆️ our 4 yr. old, manage the household, manage my ongoing recovery from a previous car accident, look for a job. I did indeed feel like “running” as fast as I could! But I chose to stay if he would get treatment.I was lucky to have the support of family & friends. He found the tight treatment, embraced it & worked his way back to the land of the living. In the process he was diagnosed with Autism like our son. I went to work & grad ⬇️ (edited) 1w
kspenmoll @IriDas school & he was home with our son. I know many women do not run from abusive situations- I have a sister & close friend who eventually left theirs.thank you for your response to this post; it certainly caused me to reflect more deeply on what I posted.💕💕 (edited) 1w
IriDas @kspenmoll Thanks for sharing your story. It helped understand your perspective and why that quote resonated with you. So glad to hear that your husband was willing to seek help. It truly makes me happy to hear. I realize that I too should have probably phrased my last sentence better. I wish we lived in a society where people didn‘t use quotes like this one to shame people into staying in bad situations and that more stories ended like yours. 💕 1w

This book was so much more in depth than I expected. In an effort to understand his father‘s suicide (his father was sent through an ad to a family in England at age of 11) the author dug deep & retraced the fates of both the children in the adverts & their families. For me his journey elicited contradictory responses in that it was both fascinating & heartbreaking. #NF Highly recommend.

I had no idea that 20,000 Jewish refugees from Vienna traveled to Shanghai to escape the Nazis. But in 1941 the Nazi‘s arrived in the face of the notorious Colonial Josef Meisinger, the “Butcher of Warsaw.”His ideas for the solution of the “Jewish problem” scandalized the Japanese, despite the fact that they committed atrocities themselves.
