This series has constant allusions, mentioning of novels, poetry, eclectic music which has led me to new discoveries. It‘s an added bonus to the understanding/enjoyment of DCI Banks, his moods, his emotional/spiritual life, his connections to his sense of” home”. Helen Keller is an enduring gift to us all. Hoping to start this tonight.

Happy July 4th everyone!
After spending 5 hours( could have worse! Of course I had a book with me)in the ER late last night with my husband, I am happy to be home.He was diagnosed with facial cellulitis. His pain level had become increasingly worse daily. Now with the right diagnosis & meds, he should start healing. We are barbecuing today & enjoying the cool breezes that are keeping the heat at bay.

julieclair What a lovely way to spend the morning! Thanks for sharing that interesting article. And, I‘ve stacked Common Sense. Haven‘t read it since high school. I think it‘s high time for a re-read! 10h
GingerAntics I had a student come in with an essay claiming that Thomas Paine argued that Americans should eat Irish children and how horrible people were in colonial times for doing this… the kid was assigned to read Common Sense and a Modest Proposal and was supposed to write about the power of political pamphlets as persuasive writing. My head hurts again just typing this. Clearly he didn‘t understand satire or that he read two different pamphlets. (edited) 7h

LiseWorks My wren's babies are born, and feeding them is a full-time job for the parents. I get told off if I'm too close to their house, lol 2w

Just got back from a local street pride rally- mostly positive honks & waves from cars- a few denigrating shouts. Stopped in to pick up a hold at the library & they had a bug display of books, pins, flags for Pride month. #pride #indivisible

TheBookHippie Love it!!!! Love is so much easier. It always amazes me -the hate mongers… 2w
IriDas Glad to hear your library is doing stuff for pride. Ours did nothing this year. :( makes me a bit more focused on my Master‘s though (MLIS). I never thought being a librarian would put a person on the frontline of anything. 2w
kspenmoll @TheBookHippie Hate is soul destroying. Love is easier & leaves one full of light & joy. (edited) 2w

kspenmoll @IriDas We have a marvelous library, which is why how little T is treating libraries and librarians disgusts & enrages me so. Fortunately our town/state is all about libraries. 2w
IriDas So glad your town is sticking to it. Traditionally, there was never an issue in ours. Just this year. I‘m so tired of the cowardice of people bowing to Conservatives and their phobias. 2w

#5JoysFriday
1) last day of school/work was Monday! Yay!!!
2) Early morning walk-was lovely/ breezy,sunny with puff clouds-the river glistened
3) won Hartford City Football game game, 4-nil!!!
4) coffee, a book & bird song on my porch
5) Em, who never ever climbs, climbed from the floor to a stack of books in my office. I was utterly transfixed watching her progress!

Tagging any Litten who wants to play.

My tiny house wren chirped at a rapid high volume when I sat on the porch with my book and coffee. Mom flew out of her birdhouse but I think they are getting use to my quiet presence- Mom is back & dad‘s chirp is now normal.

There is a wonderful cool breeze today which I want to enjoy out here because extremely hot humid weather is coming. #porchlife #birdsong

LiseWorks I have a Wren near my garden who always gives me an earful when I go lol 2w

Pickpick

#ScottishDetectiveMystery #DCILoganCrimeThrillers #readyourkindle
A mutilated body washes up near the shores of Loch Ness. Logan with a new team, investigates this grizzly murder.A woman publishes pictures of the area which creates a “the Loch Ness monster did it!” frenzy. Questions arise of possible occult,& organized crime involvement. Again, another unforeseen (to me) ending that is twisted & dark. #serieslove2025
