“Horror might be scary, but it‘s also a fascinating genre that stimulates curiosity in the unknown. I hope to keep drawing scary and entertaining manga for as long as I can. And if my cats give me funny ideas, maybe there‘s a chance I‘ll draw more cat manga” 😺

Ran across this online and couldn‘t help myself. @phantomx have you seen this one? It looks creepy and hilarious 😆

phantomx @SkeletonKey I have! I love Yon and Mu, and this little dedication to them is fantastic, all in Junji Ito's style. Also, there's a hardcover of The Cat diaries coming out (I believe this year) 3y
SkeletonKey @phantomx - Ooooh, I should have held out for the hardcover! 3y
phantomx @SkeletonKey hardcover will have a different cover from the paperback 3y

Yesterday hubby and I explored one of the nearby towns (to look at possible places to live) and ran into 2 bookstores and 1 comic book store (of course we bought way too many books -- is there such a thing?)

This one was one my husband insisted on getting me as an early birthday present (also got me a couple more from this author)

Anyway started this one tonight! Its super cute already!

Honestly love this little collection. What a cute retelling of being a cat owner, juxtaposed humorously with the creators natural horror based art style.

"the cats end up eating people won't they?"
I was expecting it to get werid because Junji Ito but it was a really cute story about Junji, his wife and his kitties.
I loved the real life pictures of the cats.
They are so cute!

This was such an enjoyable read, surprisingly cute and heartfelt but with typically eerie Junji Ito drawings. The bonus manga at the end broke my heart though 💔 #junjiito #justfinished #manga #cats #catsoflitsy #review

Me and the Ginge are enjoying this little manga immensely. Only a few chapters in and I've already given myself cramps from laughing. Junji and his fiance are so sweet, and Ji just wants the kitties to love him! #currentlyreading #catsoflitsy #manga #junjiito #illustrations

This is a cute slice-of-life cat owner manga from horror titan Junji Ito. Be aware though Yon has since passed from a heart ailment, so there‘s a poignant update to that effect at the end of the book.

Starting Book Riot‘s 2019 Read Harder challenge #1-Read a Book of Manga. Thank goodness my friend let me borrow one about a cat crazed couple. So cute and relatable! Who doesn‘t pine over the lonely cat adoption ads and romanticize about the lives they could have if you just brought them home???

OMG, this manga was so funny & so relatable by anyone who's experienced life with cats. The very, very end had a special side story that was heart-breaking & sad, however. It made me hug my cats to my heart & shed a few tears. You can definitely tell Junji-San is a master of horror from the illustrations, which just made everything even funnier (minus the extra story). Highly recommended to manga fans & cat-lovers everywhere!

Starting this manga right now. I flipped through it earlier and I have a feeling it'll be hilarious. This non-fiction graphic novel tells the story of renowned horror mangaka, Junji Ito's, trials & tribulations with adapting to being a cat-owner after his fiancée moves in with him, bringing along her two cute kitties, Yon and Mu!!

A great #Halloween read for any cat lover (seems like it'd be right up @Liberty 's alley). Junji Ito's comics can be pretty intense, so this more light-hearted take on his distinctly grotesque art style is a great entry point for new readers.

Aw, this was a cute and funny manga! Autobiographical stories of the artist learning to live with (and earn the love of) two cats. If you've ever lived with a cat, you'll definitely appreciate these stories. 😻

BekahB I love this manga! I laughed so hard when he was trying to get the cat to sleep with him in his bed. 😂 8y
Eyelit @BekahB yes, that was hilarious - he tries so hard to get the attention/love of the cats! One of my fave bits was when he woke up one morning to 'ice crystals' on the floor that turned out to be cat snot! That had me cringing and cracking! 8y
Carol I have a thing with not reading animal stories for fear of one thing: do both cats still live at the end? 8y

LauraBrook @Carol I was wondering the same thing! 8y
Eyelit @carol & @LauraBrook both cats are alive through the main stories, but there is an additional story at the very end about the loss of one of them. Old age and the usual ailments that come along. That snippet and the brief letter from the wife of the author honor the kitty really well. 8y
Carol @Eyelit thank you! 8y
LauraBrook @Eyelit thanks! 8y

Second stop on my #bookstoretourism was Farewell Books. This is also on the SE side of town, but the gentrified part. It's half bookstore and half gallery. It was all right, but it's unlikely I'll frequent this bookstore as it's not my cup of tea. I did find a cute manga, though. 😄

BekahB I love that manga! I laugh every time I read it. 😄 8y
Eyelit Glad to hear it @BekahB 😃 I picked it up on a whim and an looking forward to reading it 8y

Famous Japanese horror comic creator, Junji Ito created a series of vignettes about his two cats and their odd habits. It's obvious that he loves these cats dearly, as he illustrates their quirkiness with affectionate detail.

(Simba did not share my vision for this photo.) This was a really quick, fun read that truly captured the absurdity of cats with hilariously realistic renderings of the little jerks. Loved it.

This manga is a true account of horror manga artist Junji Ito learning to live with his fiancé's 2 cats despite not being a "cat person." It's fantastic and portrays some of the awesome and a lot of the crazy aspects of living with cats. I've read this book several times and it always makes me laugh
