When Isabel Perez travels to Barcelona to save her sister Beatriz, she discovers a shocking family secret in New York Times bestselling author Chanel Cleetons new novel. Barcelona, 1964. Exiled from Cuba after the revolution, Isabel Perez has learned to guard her heart and protect her family at all costs. After Isabels sister Beatriz disappears in Barcelona, Isabel goes to Spain in search of her. Joining forces with an unlikely ally thrusts Isabel into her sisters dangerous world of espionage, but its an unearthed piece of family history that transforms Isabels life. Barcelona, 1936. Alicia Perez arrives in Barcelona after a difficult voyage from Cuba, her marriage in jeopardy and her young daughter Isabel in tow. Violence brews in Spain, the country on the brink of civil war, the rise of fascism threatening the world. When Cubans journey to Spain to join the International Brigades, Alicias past comes back to haunt her as she is unexpectedly reunited with the man who once held her heart. Magical. . .a must-read for all readers who love history. OUR LAST DAYS IN BARCELONA by Chanel Cleeton is one of those novels when the last page is read, you just want to hug the book.

I love these passionate female characters. Torn between doing what they are expected and what they really want. I hadn't read any of these books in a while, so it took me a bit to sort through the story lines and make the connections. 4⭐️

My #bookhaul between swaps and Christmas gifts this year. Not pictured, the #Thriftbooks or BOTM books I just ordered before my new year's resolution to read what I own and not buy anything new (to me). Don't worry, I'm laughing at the absurdity that said resolution will actually come to fruition as well 😄 😂 but at least I'll start off with good intentions! 📚

22 #77 The latest in a series about the Perez sisters. It was fine…I kept waiting for something remarkable to happen and it really didn‘t. But it ended well and put me back In touch with characters I‘ve enjoyed.

#StoryGraph: fiction historical adventurous emotional mysterious medium-paced

This is the fifth book in Chanel Cleeton‘s Perez family saga. Alicia and Isabel's lives intertwine, and the past and present collide, as a mother and daughter are forced to choose between their family's expectations and following their hearts. The entire series was exceptional.

Well, it‘s a few strong A-‘s (4.5) for the win on this grid. I‘m giving it to the tagged because of my anticipation to settle in with the Perez sisters again.

5* = Loved It, want to shout out loud about this book! I do/will own/keep a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Average C
2*=Nope D
1*=DNF F

Suet624 The double bind traumatized me. 2y
marleed @Suet624 I‘m still wrapping my head around that read! My review had to include a trigger warning caveat because it‘s very disturbing and definitely not a book for everyone. 2y
Suet624 Definitely. I haven‘t read one of his since then. And he‘s a Vermonter which means I‘m supposed to read all of his work! 2y
marleed @Suet624 Boy, if I‘d read this one first, I might be reticent to tackle another, as well. What I‘ve discovered of this author is that although he does not shy from violence each book paints a very different story from his previous works. 2y

Hey, lucky me, I won a kindle version of this book! Chanel Cleeton is an auto read for me because she exposes me to fascinating Cuban inspired history. This was a dual timeline success because I loved reading about matriarch, Alicia‘s in 1936 Barcelona every bit as much as reading oldest sister, Isabel, discovering herself (with the encouragement of Beatriz) in 1964 Barcelona.

For #travelthroughbooks #spain I inhaled this one. Once again this is part of the Perez Sisters and I loved visiting with them once again. There is just something about the way this author writes. A wonderful read you should add to your summer reading list!

This book didn't hook me as quickly as her others until about a third of the way till I slid down the rest of the way through to the end in a sitting.
Maybe it was the multiple occurrences of unrequited love or a sense of redemption but I loved it.
I only hope that ending is written in such a way to be open to other stories or it may drive me crazy if left that way forever.

Maybe a new favorite Chanel Cleeton book. Isabel travels to Barcelona when she loses contact with her younger sister who has worked for the CIA in the past. Thirty years before, her mother made the same trip with a young Isabel in tow but now refuses to admit it. What secrets is she hiding and how will it change the lives of the Perez women throughout the year?
