I enjoyed this more than I expected, as I felt it got off to a slow start. I saw where the story was going but liked seeing it all come together. A #Roll100 #doublespin double whammy! 🙌🏼

I didn‘t realize that a lot of people rated this book really low. But I bet it‘s a LOT better read than my last read, The Wild Boys 😵‍💫

Update: I really enjoyed this quick read!

I joined the #sundaybuddyread last month to read this doozy. I probably would have bailed if not for the hilarious discussions each week (I finally went back and read the comments for the last week when I was off Litsy) My partner was constantly checking on me while I was reading this because of my loud annoyed sighs at the characters.
The above quote really summed up the main character imo 🙄

Congratulations @vlwelser

I‘ll get it out to post this week 👀

vlwelser That really is funny. I was going to finish regardless. Even if it was just to continue talking shit about that book with everyone else. But winning the December book is also very fun. 8mo

Mehso-so

Read for #SundayBuddyRead & between So-So & Pan for me but I‘ll round up slightly because I disliked it less than most of our group, it‘s a book about books & writing & I liked one of the author‘s previous books.🤷🏻‍♀️The premise had promise but the characters were flat & not very likable & any development in them happened slightly at the end so nothing was plausible & the plot “twist” really wasn‘t one or should not have been. I do like a look⬇️

DebinHawaii …at how authors write & are published & the cover is ⭐️ The #SundayBuddyRead discussions were top notch as usual & lots of fun, thanks to @TheBookHippie 8mo

I THANK YOU for sticking this one out or even attempting!!! I‘ll let you know the winner of the drawing later today of our December book box CHRISTMASINJULY ♥️

Any final thoughts ?!?!?!

See you for LADY CHATTERLY‘S LOVER ♥️♥️♥️

Sargar114 My father in law passed this week (unexpectedly) and I HATE how frivolously the author is treating death. I‘m struggling to find how nobody would notice her not being around for 6 months even if she was a recluse. Or how Chloe wouldn‘t have known her real name and done two seconds of research to find out she passed. It‘s so stupid. I haven‘t hated a book this much in a few years, but glad we could commiserate together 🙂 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 Oh I am sorry. I also thought that and also WHERE is her GRIEF over Essie?? I hated this book more than any other hated book in a decade I think! 8mo
marleed It‘s been a minute since I‘ve read this one, and seem to have forgotten everything but the cover. But these comments are cracking me up and had to open up and read all the spoiler posts! 8mo

IndoorDame @Sargar114 I‘m so sorry for your loss ❤️ 8mo
IndoorDame It was almost fun to be this mad about something frivolous and get to rant with you all this month. I can‘t remember the last time I did this 😂 8mo
vlwelser I am so looking forward to the reread of Lady Chatterley's Lover that is coming next. We'll just put this one out of our minds now, yes? And not pick this author again. 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame it was a little exercise in stress relief the hatred and aggravating together!!! Solidarity 😂 8mo
Karisa @Sargar114 So sorry for you and your family‘s loss. You‘re absolutely right. There‘s just no way that Eddie‘s death could go unnoticed for so long. The whole book is ridiculous which only works to keep reading when we know we‘ll all be here to point it out together. It‘s a love to hate book 8mo
Sargar114 @IndoorDame @TheBookHippie I would read parts and think “I can‘t wait to rant about this on Sunday, lol” 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 SAME!!! 😅 8mo
Deblovestoread @Sargar114 I‘m so sorry for your loss! 8mo
Deblovestoread The discussions were fun but man this book was the pits. One of the worst I‘ve read on so many levels. Looking forward to Lady Chatterley! 8mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread FOR REAL. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I cannot believe this book was actually printed 👀🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread 33 percent in Litsy gave it thumbs UP?!?! Who are these people ???? 8mo

TheBookHippie @AmyG No one happier than me! 😝 8mo
mcctrish I feel like I should have cautioned you all about this stinker ☹️ I haven‘t really been so disappointed in a book, well Colleen Hoover this year, for awhile. But it timed well with my holiday so ….. here‘s to the LCL 👏🏻👏🏻 the cover is the only good thing about this book 8mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish I pick books a year a head of time, at least and in seven years of Sundays we‘ve enjoyed some real stinkers together- with laughter. HOWEVER- THIS IS THE WORST thing we‘ve ever read. It‘s horrific 😂😵‍💫😅🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😝😝 I don‘t read Hoover 🙃🤮 but I don‘t think you‘re alone in that. Likewise I‘m so excited for LCL 😅 8mo

Read4life Well, I joined #SUNDAYBUDDYREAD last summer and I‘m loving it! I‘ve read some great books I wouldn‘t have picked up on my own. This book, however, has replaced A Million Junes as the worst book I‘ve read with this group! 🤓 8mo
TheBookHippie @Read4life WORD!!! GOOOOD GRIEF. And that June book was BAD. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Sargar114 I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I have to say...reading good books where we all agree on things doesn't always lead to the most stimulating conversations. Mysteries and hate-reads at least give us some laughs as we speculate about the plot. I've pulled out my copy of Lady and am ready to go. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Sargar114 oh no, I‘m sorry for your and your husband‘s loss. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @AmyG couldn‘t agree more!! I actually have a real sense of accomplishment to have plowed through this ridiculous book! DebinHawaii @Sargar114 I‘m so sorry for you loss. You, your husband, and family are in my thoughts. 💜💜💜 8mo
DebinHawaii I didn‘t have as much hatred for this book as others, just disappointment because I did like one of her other books & I generally enjoy books about books, readers & writers. I have enjoyed the discussions very much as usual & the number of “stinkers” since I‘ve been with #SundayBuddyRead is unusually low @TheBookHippie 👩🏻‍🍳👌🏼🤣 Looking forward to (finally) reading Lady Chatterly‘s Lover in August & even more for our #ChloeGongreadalong !!! 🎉 8mo
AmyG Oh no @Sargar114 …I am away, rushed through answering, and didn‘t read about your father-in-law. My sincere condolences to you and your family. I am so very sorry. 8mo

Larkken @Sargar114 so sorry for your loss. Losing family is never easy. 8mo
Larkken Also - you are right and I never thought about that aspect of the whole premise being cavalier! I don‘t know that I think too much of Chloe now. (She‘s in good company tho…) 8mo
Larkken I remember looking through the goodreads reviews on this book and wondering how it could be a Evelyn Hugo dup. Bleh 8mo
TheBookHippie @Larkken I do not get the Evelyn Hugo thing either 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
Catsandbooks @Sargar114 so very sorry for your loss 8mo
Catsandbooks I enjoyed hate reading this book with you guys 😂 Looking forward to reading LCL for the first time with y'all! 8mo
OriginalCyn620 I was attending a con all weekend so I didn‘t have time to do the whole final discussion yesterday, but I too am glad this one is over! Cardboard characters, toxic relationships, ridiculous twists - and nothing at all interesting happens. This is a case where the blurb and cover were great but the book itself is not as advertised. And I really hate when that happens! So happy to toss this book into the Goodwill pile! 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @Sargar114 I‘m so very sorry for your loss. 💔 8mo
TheBookHippie @OriginalCyn620 I feel the same!!!! False advertising!!! 8mo
mollyrotondo @Sargar114 I am sorry to hear that! I will be thinking about you and your family. ❤️ 8mo
mollyrotondo This one was bad. But I will say that it was not as bad as the tagged book. They both condone women being hung up on men and making wrong decisions that are pretty much self destructive. I still vote that the Picoult book was worse 😂 8mo

The husbands about face

Chloe‘s article…

Essies goodbye farewell

The book
Liv not wanting to be on the cover

The ending
?
Beans on toast ?!?!

🤦🏻‍♀️

Sargar114 So f‘ing dumb. She had this big dramatic makeover that nobody every noticed or mentioned. Everything wrapped up in a stupid neat bow and everyone is happy and okay. I cannot believe they could have hid the death of someone so seemingly famous for 6 months and no one questions what the fk Liv was doing and the fraud she was committing in those 6 months. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 NO ONE NOTICED ?!?!?! 8mo
IndoorDame It‘s a good thing I was completely not invested in the characters or the story by this point or else the ending would‘ve made me 😡😠 8mo
See All 29 Comments
Karisa All of it defies logic. The more thought put into it, the less sense it all makes. What a godawful world this book lives in 8mo
vlwelser I don't even know what to say about this. Also agree with @Sargar114. And she died and no one ahem cared. Much like we feel about the book in general. 8mo
Deblovestoread Implausible plot, characters I wanted to smack upside the head daily, and they all lived HAE….ugh 8mo
Read4life The horribly perfect ending to a horribly awful book. 8mo
CatLass007 I don‘t hate this book the way everyone else seems to. I don‘t exactly love it either. The whole thing was just kind of meh. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Of course, 🌟magical Liv🌟, bringer of Essie expertise and cringey life choices, said the exact perfect words to Chloe to make her do an about face and go from having TMZ aspirations to being Diane Sawyer. JFC. As I said before, I think Jake had a side piece who left him, hence the abrupt turnaround. Essie's farewell was just OK. Beans on toast sounds like the most absolutely generic Brit thing to eat. I'm glad we're done with these dipshits. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook The ending Liv found for the book / Georgia sounded surprisingly good to me. At least what we could glean of it. I‘m wayyy past the point of caring but I had a tiny moment of „huh, that‘s better than I expected“ and then went back to the haze of indifference, eye rolls, irritation, incredulity 😤 8mo
Sargar114 @CoffeeAndABook agree that the ending of the imaginary book sounded better than this actual book‘s ending! It‘s like the inception of projecting: the author projecting on Liv who projected what she wanted into Georgia 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Sargar114 Perfectly put 👌🏼😂 8mo
DebinHawaii @CatLass007 I am with you. I just have the big feeling of “meh” overall about it. And as everyone is saying, the changes & character growth are just too abrupt to feel realistic. As for beans & toast—I fully support them 😋—probably influenced by my love of Nigel Slater & other Brit chefs cooking simple food at home! 😉 8mo
CatLass007 @DebinHawaii As someone from the American South, I have no idea what beans and toast are. I mean, what kind of beans? Are the beans on the toast? Or are they just eaten together? This is not the first book I‘ve read that mentions beans and toast, but it is the first time I‘ve actually posed the question. What are they? 8mo
DebinHawaii @CatLass007 Hah! No worries. I‘m no expert but yes, it‘s pretty basic British comfort food & usually just canned beans on top of toast for dinner. Here‘s a link to a post I did for another book https://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2018/10/the-book-tour-stops-here-review-of-i... To be honest, the classic canned beans typically are a bit sweet for me but I like to cook up my own savory beans and eat them on a piece of toast as an easy dinner. 8mo
CatLass007 @TheBookHippie Thanks!😁😋 8mo
CatLass007 @TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I just searched Walmart for Heinz beans in tomato sauce, as mentioned in the recipe. They are not at all cheap in the US. But eating baked beans at a picnic or barbecue is very Southern. We just don‘t use Heinz. There are many other brands available that don‘t cost an arm and a leg. Americans wouldn‘t have them for breakfast. But the way the woman‘s father served beans with caramelized onions looks delicious! 8mo
DebinHawaii @CatLass007 @TheBookHippie Breakfast works too! I‘m just usually not that hungry then! 😉😆 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 I use cambells or bush and I use caramelised onion frequently! I like to protein punch to start my day and it‘s cold here October to May sometimes June 🙃. @DebinHawaii (edited) 8mo
CatLass007 @DebinHawaii @TheBookHippie Bush makes excellent baked beans. 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 I so agree! 8mo
Larkken @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick “I‘m glad we‘re done with these dipshits” - I‘m dying over here 😂💀😆 8mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Larkken DIPSHITS is the right word!! I‘m waiting on @mollyrotondo rant!!! It‘s gonna be good 😝😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫👀 8mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie I‘m checking in now! I will give my rant in just a second! 😂 🤣😖 8mo
mollyrotondo So Chloe. I don‘t even understand why she‘s in this book. Liv can just turn people good by suggesting weak ideas? And the speech with the sappy Georgia line 🙄 there‘s no way all those soul sucking celebs would have cheered that. But the worst parts of the book were the abusive husband getting away with it and Essie, who I liked initially, was written to be a crazy woman hung up on a man from her youth. Liv settled; Essie was weakened by author. (edited) 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I think it‘s who the author is 😵‍💫😂🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😬😝😅 in real life. 8mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie that‘s sad 8mo

So Livs dad was the love of Essies life
His tie
His cuff links he took but then refused
Essies letters
Livs dads letters
Thoughts ?

Timing of the accident 😬

Sargar114 It was so weird. Honestly I would have preferred they actually had an affair, at least that would have made more sense beside a creepy one sided obsession. But don‘t worry, Liv will still think kindly of Essie 8mo
IndoorDame @Sargar114 I also would‘ve preferred they had an affair, but mostly cause this struck me as oddly moralistic 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I think that‘s the author too😵‍💫…. 8mo
See All 31 Comments
Karisa Like much of the characters‘ decisions in this book, made no sense. It‘s like the author was just throwing stuff at a wall to see what stuck. Doesn‘t she have any early readers, editors, anyone to tell her the truth? 8mo
vlwelser This made Essie seem SO creepy. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa Seriously!!!! 8mo
IndoorDame @Karisa 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that‘s exactly how it felt by this point 8mo
Sargar114 Also, I‘d Essie went to the university her dad taught at, how do you not make that connection sooner. Even a little aside note when she discovers she went to uni, then the reveal of the final connection with her father a little less far fetched 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 😵‍💫😂 Did this not remind you of correcting a badly written paper at times ?! 😂🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
Karisa @TheBookHippie Yes! I would have had her re-reading parts “Now, why did that character do that?” “I was a little lost at this part. Can you explain why Katrina needs more money/why Liv‘s dad needed to be involved/why Essie would hide going to uni/why Liv does such mean things/etc to me?” 8mo
IndoorDame @Karisa @TheBookHippie Ditto, it was basically impossible not to be thinking that since so much of the book focused on editing and writing! 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame Does she have no friends was my other thought!! 8mo
Deblovestoread She had a crush on a teacher. It‘s like saying my best friends older brother who I mooned over was the love of my life. Ridiculous! 8mo
Read4life Just so awful… the story, the characters and the (lack of) editing. 8mo
CatLass007 Liv‘s dad was the love of Essie‘s life only in Essie‘s imagination. I guess Liv and Essie both living in fantasy worlds is something they had in common. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I had a tiny bit of respect for Liv's father, realizing he was getting into a bit of a predicament with Essie, albeit a little late. We only know her side, so it's hard to say if he knew what he was doing. This book had an interesting premise, but is just full of idiotic plot points to make the most infuriating yet milquetoast cast of characters all fit neatly in their little box. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yeah you‘re right, the letters Liv‘s dad sent to Essie rang true (for a change) - I could picture him trying to shake off an increasingly creepy and clingy student. But the whole coincidence of Liv „happening“ to apply to Essie, who happened to be her dad‘s fangirl was just so ridiculous. If Essie had actively sought her out that would have made more sense & would have been in line with her stalkerish tendencies 😬 8mo
DebinHawaii The amount of issues Essie had & how her whole emotional life (whole life really) derailed for a college-age crush was way too excessive. 😳 8mo
megnews @Karisa definitely throwing things at a wall to see what stuck and this idea should have quickly slid down the wall. 8mo
megnews @Deblovestoread exactly and to obsess over him the rest of your life. Cray cray (edited) 8mo
Karisa @megnews Exactly! 🤣 8mo
Catsandbooks Essie comes off super creepy. Obsessed with someone who she never even had a relationship with. That's just sad. And Liv is just like oh it's fine. 8mo
Larkken So annoyed that the dad was even too saintly to actually even just be having the dang affair. Everyone is milquetoast and yet also borderline bullies. 8mo
Larkken @IndoorDame exactly!!! If someone would just do something interesting and be bad it would at least make it more fun to read? 8mo
TheBookHippie @Larkken RIGHT?!?!?! So ridiculous 😵‍💫 8mo
mollyrotondo I was really annoyed that this was Essie‘s problem. It made this successful female writer look crazy. It was a “women be crazy” plot twist. So Essie clung to a college crush on her professor that was not reciprocated (which was very unrealistic and too perfect for Liv‘s perfect family) and obsessed over it her whole life? I mean therapy could have really helped her move on and see it was a crush. But so disappointing that Essie is crazy over a man 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo the author must believe a man is the end all be all 😵‍💫 8mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie no character growth and no progress from the author and the publisher world. Women want more than stories about their lives being so emotionally controlled by men. 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo 💯 It‘s just nuts this was published! 8mo

Sargar114 SO DUMB!!!!! This was such a stupid “twist.” I really hated it. (edited) 8mo
IndoorDame I hated this twist too! I actually would‘ve found ‘Essie was eccentric and took a fancy to her‘ a more believable reason to pick Liv than this fate/coincidence connection 8mo
Karisa Just 🤮 8mo

vlwelser This book is the worst. 8mo
vlwelser I was reading this on the subway and had to pause and basically put the book away. We do not throw our kindle on public transport during rush hour. 8mo
Deblovestoread Totally book throwing moment but alas you don‘t throw your kindle anywhere! 😂 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick A child over 6 has to know when their parent died. It is such a life-changing event that you can't NOT remember it, right?! This reveal was laughable. 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser LORD … I also threw book across yard and left it for a bit. 😂😅👀 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I cannot believe this made the edit… or the entire book for that matter. 8mo
AmyG Le sigh. This whole book‘s story lines were bonkers, unbelievable. 8mo
mcctrish @vlwelser smart choice being made with your kindle ( it isn‘t its fault this book is garbage 🤣😳) 8mo
Read4life She idolizes her dad, ‘talks‘ to him & imagines what he‘d say about her actions, etc. but she doesn‘t know when he died? 🤬 8mo
CatLass007 I don‘t think I could forget the date either of my parents died. Maybe relating the date of her dad‘s death to the date Essie‘s first book was published was too painful a link to make until it slapped her in the face? 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Deblovestoread @vlwelser I‘m glad nobody ruined their Kindles over this horrific book and this ridiculous laughable „twist“ 🤣 8mo
DebinHawaii A completely idiotic “twist.” My dad passed away on October 28, 1994. I will never forget that date. No throwing if my Kindle & at that point I didn‘t even care enough to be angry, just SMH disappointed. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
megnews I was listening to audio in my car. Pretty sure when this twist was revealed I said aloud, this is the stupidest twist ever. Completely unbelievable 8mo
TheBookHippie @megnews I still can‘t grasp that it‘s written this way!! 8mo
Catsandbooks This made me mad. I'll never forget when my dad died. Like how do you not know this?!? Everything to do with this date was dumb 8mo
mollyrotondo Even if Liv didn‘t think about the date of her father‘s death all the time, after hearing November 1 like 50 times in the course of her ridiculous investigation into Essie (the flowers, the publication date, the awards ceremony; all repeated over and over by everyone who knew her) she never once thought to herself huh that‘s the same date my father died? This was a completely forced conclusion. 8mo

TheBookHippie @Sargar114 SO RESENTFUL 😵‍💫 8mo
Deblovestoread @Karisa Yes! I think they all were cardboard. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Liv doesn't deserve all of the opportunities she's being given at the end. A magically healed marriage. A job offer with Jake. A job offer at the museum. Potential to be a writer. God knows what the publisher will offer her because of that flawless knowledge of the Georgia Rory series. 🙄🙄🙄 At least she turned down the co-writer notoriety. 8mo
AmyG I couldn‘t care less who she is. 🤣 8mo
mcctrish @AmyG 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8mo
Read4life @AmyG 👍🏻 8mo
CatLass007 I guess like the rest of the world, she wonders who she is. I would love to have that question magically answered for myself. Liv gets the world laid out for her on a silver platter. If only that worked in real life. 8mo

So exasperated by this point … YOU???

Sargar114 I had to put the book down several times to roll my eyes and sigh in a bad way. I consider that a figurative book throw. I legitimately do not understand what the point of this book was other than maybe the author projecting. “Everyone doesn‘t see me, treats me so bad, if you just give me a chance look how perfect I can be and everything will work out.” 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 It has to be that. The author projecting ..👀🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
IndoorDame UGH 😩 At this point I‘m finding the relationships irredeemable, and the fact that everything wraps in a neat little bow is just 🤬🤮 8mo
See All 26 Comments
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I completely agree! This was one of those books kept I wanting to be able to reach through the text and shake the author and say ‘get a therapist for this shit and wait to write the book till you have some perspective on your issues!‘ 8mo
Karisa The ending just made it all the worse. I did doze off during some of the audiobook leading up to that. Didn‘t feel like I missed much though. Horrible decisions and like @IndoorDame and @Sargar114 it was bad enough to reflect on the author‘s morals. Not sure I‘ve felt that about a book often. Somehow makes me think of JK Rowling and how her characters make me want to give benefit of the doubt (but the opposite for PP—unfortunate author initials) 8mo
vlwelser 💯 8mo
Sargar114 @Karisa I had to reread the last 2 chapters this morning because I read it while falling asleep last night and couldn‘t remember reading. Then when I was reading it I realized I had read it but was just that unengaging for my brain to bother remembering 8mo
Karisa @Sargar114 I know that feeling! This book doesn‘t deserve to stick in the brain anyway 8mo
Deblovestoread Agree! Earlier in the month before realizing I hated this one I started her latest. After a few chapters it felt similar so it went back to the library. I don‘t know if it‘s her or she thinks she‘s found a formula 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The ending was too tidy & easy. For months (if not years), they were living their lives so separately & treating each other with no care or respect. I'm supposed to believe they have this wonderfully healing BS conversation, & all is right in the world? Hell no. This was stupid. He never really apologized but all of a sudden he see that his wife is more than a cleaner after 20 years?! Seems like his lover left him for a better lay "offscreen". 8mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 8mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread OH DEAR 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😝 8mo
IndoorDame @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick exactly! I couldn‘t decide whether to laugh or scream 8mo
AmyG This entire story rings false. 8mo
mcctrish @Deblovestoread I‘m going to steer clear of that book then 8mo
CatLass007 The ending was much too neat and tidy. All wrapped up in a big red bow. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Lover left her husband - that‘s probably exactly what happened 😂 8mo
CoffeeAndABook I should probably feel annoyed at the pretty HEA ending but I don‘t. I don‘t care AT ALL 😂 8mo
DebinHawaii Yes to all of this. You can‘t have a plausible character growth or change arc that shows no sign of happening until it is rammed into the end of the book in a “happy” ending. 8mo
megnews @IndoorDame if she‘d had a therapist I don‘t think she would have written a book like this at all. 😂 8mo
megnews @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick everything you said, exactly! 8mo
megnews So with us thinking this is the author projecting, is she saying she would have been satisfied with a non apology and a no resolution resolution? 8mo
Catsandbooks @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick "offscreen" lover ? yes this feels completely accurate! 8mo
mollyrotondo The husband was so condescending and belittling. He has been down on her her whole life (she reads fiction, she can‘t write, she‘s only Essie‘s cleaner, she‘s expected to take care of the boys and drive them around and can‘t go anywhere because he can‘t possibly take care of his own kids, his job is more important than her‘s) so for him to just apologize because why, he was worried she found a better man and that would hurt his ego? He‘s a jerk. 8mo
mollyrotondo And Liv has been complaining about this marriage and whether she married too young and gave up too much at a young age and then he brings her junk food and that makes it all better? He literally did the bare minimum and didn‘t apology but he‘s my husband so I have to forgive him. So gross. And shows Liv has zero character growth. 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo IT WAS SO GROSSS!!!!!!!!!! 8mo

Money HOW MUCH he‘s giving to business didn‘t ask his wife ?! Got a loan.
Also COAT CLOSET?
WTF
THE HOUSE he could mortgage because IT IS IN HIS NAME
OMG
THE MONEY thing on both their parts is gross.

Thoughts ?!

Sargar114 Totally gross. Their lack of communication and then everything is just okay at the end. Oh and Liv has all the perfect suggestions and we‘re gonna do everything she says instead and it‘ll be perfect. 🤮 8mo
IndoorDame I know a lot of couples don‘t have joint finances these days, but there has to be an amount (relative to your budget) at which making decisions alone becomes sick and abusive, right? And for this couple it‘s WAY less than 10G and a second mortgage!!!! 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame we don‘t have joint finances - we have a budget. However built into our budget that we discuss and agree on, there is money for each of us to do whatever with but it‘s only a few hundred dollars aka his golf money and my book money and our house in is both our names 😵‍💫 the money thing in this book is abusive and sick yes! 8mo
See All 22 Comments
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie that makes total sense to me. Communication, honesty, equity. (All the things our characters are missing) 8mo
Karisa 🤮 @Sargar114 I agree totally 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 right??? She has alllll the answers 😵‍💫🤮 8mo
vlwelser He acts so entitled. And the way he treats Liv is super gross. Like she's an employee or something and not a legit partner. 8mo
Deblovestoread Same…books for me, golf for him….everything about their $$ is so wrong and underhanded. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Even if Liv made zero money, Jake should be discussing a second mortgage as it affects the entire family and their living situation. There is zero healthy communication between this couple. She's not a 23 year old 2nd wife who just got here. The way he comments on everything she spent money on, but also the way she just walked into the fancy shops and bought new stuff, while simultaneously complaining about money is just absurd. 8mo
AmyG I didn‘t really like any of these characters. The marriage had no communication. It‘s a wonder they made it as long as they did. 8mo
Read4life No communication, ridiculous money choices & then everything is great and Liv saves the business… just NO! 8mo
CatLass007 Liv got to live out her fantasy, more or less. And then reality hit. Many decades ago my contemporary literature professor referenced a magazine feature called “Can This Marriage Be Saved?” regarding one of the books we read for class. With regard to Liv and what‘s his name, I tend to think “why bother?” 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 I so agree. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick it seemed passive aggressive. 8mo
DebinHawaii It‘s probably safer for other potential partners that that they stay just together given their inability to communicate & level of immaturity in finances & life! 😆 8mo
megnews @CatLass007 exactly! 8mo
Catsandbooks This whole marriage made me mad. The lack of communication, the disrespect, not treating each other as equals, just everything 🤮 it's makes me sad that others may read this book and think this behavior is OK when it definitely is not! 8mo
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks That is my exact fear!! 8mo
mollyrotondo @Catsandbooks yes! Agree that this type of marriage portrayal ending with a happily ever after with no actual conversation between the two characters to attempt fixing things on both ends can be dangerous. 8mo
mollyrotondo Jake and Liv felt like such a bad fit and like the author kept forgetting their ages and their kids‘ ages. Hiding in a coat closet to discuss financial issues so your 18 and 20 year old sons don‘t hear? It just seemed over the top. And Jake‘s abuse that magically turns into support was bad. Either make him earn it or dump him. Also agree that Liv just spending money on birthday gifts and a bathing suit after complaining about expenses? 8mo
mollyrotondo Also why did Liv have to buy her 18 year old son a new bathing suit? And why did Jake act like he grew so much as if he‘s 12? Uhh the dynamic between the parents and sons just got weirder and weirder because I really think the author lost track of everyone‘s age. 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo SO BIZARRE!!!! Also the marriage thing. Scary. 8mo

The sister in law Katrina?!?! WHATABITCH
What an abusive wretched woman.
How is it we hate every character ?!?!?
This is 😵‍💫🤯

Sargar114 There is legitimately not a single good character in this book. There are no redeeming qualities in any of them! WTAF 8mo
IndoorDame Maddening that I hate all of them! But when Katrina is talking I definitely hate her the MOST!!! 8mo
Karisa Yes, awful woman. The character just makes no sense either—failing business, taking money, Jake giving her more money… 🤷🏻‍♀️ The only characters I kind of liked by the end was Chloe and maybe Liv‘s mom 🤣 8mo
See All 24 Comments
vlwelser This character is the worst. Why would the author even write her into the story? She's so spoiled. 8mo
Deblovestoread Can‘t stand her and why would Jake cater to her crap. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Early on, I thought it was just Jake & Katrina in the family business. To find out the parents are still involved and enabling her shit is preposterous! She is a selfish woman who hasn't learned better after 50 years of life. Jake previously made Liv feel crappy because she read *gasp* fiction. But now, just a couple months later, he would've been fine printing celeb memoirs and coffee table books?! Nah...GTFOH son. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook Absolutely 💯 horrible person!!! And no apparent reason to have her in the book at all, maybe just to magnify the extent of Jake‘s shortcomings. But just ugh 😣 8mo
AmyG She is truly an entitled bitch. 8mo
IndoorDame @Deblovestoread as a character choice it was maddening to me! The idea that Jake was that controlling with Liv and that cowed by Katrina seemed really unlikely. 8mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 8mo
Read4life I agree with everyone. She‘s awful and preposterous. A horrible, hated character with a purpose is one thing. She has no purpose. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Read4life maybe the author loathes her own sister in law 😂😂😂 8mo
CatLass007 Katrina is awful. I feel blessed to have the sister-in-law my brother married. She really tries to be my friend and I try to be hers. Katrina tries to be a bitch and succeeds. 8mo
DebinHawaii Yes, an awful, entitled person & not a need for her in the book at all . The end recap where she is finally learning to bind a book from her father after growing up in the business seemed ridiculous. 😡 8mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii RIGHT?! Like all the sudden she became a different person..........riiiiiiighhhhht. 8mo
megnews @Indoordame bullied people bully people. His sister emasculates him and bosses him around so he has to show he‘s “in charge” in his marriage. That‘s how I read his character 8mo
megnews Another character I couldn‘t believe was the age they were supposed to be. I kept picturing her around 30. Without the party, I wouldn‘t have guessed 50. So immature. And the reasoning the husband gave about the fiancé who bolted was asinine. I say ex fiancé got out while the getting was good. Dodged a bullet for sure (edited) 8mo
Catsandbooks @TheBookHippie I feel like that's what happened with everyone. All the sudden everyone is different at the end of the book 🙄 8mo
TheBookHippie @megnews that‘s a very accurate description, you‘re absolutely correct. (edited) 8mo
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks 😵‍💫😵‍💫 8mo
julieclair She is a caricature of herself. Too one dimensional to be taken seriously. (edited) 8mo
TheBookHippie @julieclair That is THE best descriptor yet! 8mo
mollyrotondo @megnews I agree! What was up with this random back story on Katrina about her fiancé leaving her at the altar and Liv didn‘t know about it? Hasn‘t Liv been with Jake since she was like 20? How did she miss the sister‘s wedding? And how did Jake never tell her if for some reason Liv wasn‘t around for it? This made no sense. And Katrina is snobby but not business savvy? I thought Jake talked to her on the phone ALL THE TIME bc they were partners. 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!!! 😵‍💫 8mo

A number of people participating in the #SundayBuddyRead really, really didn‘t like this book. But I didn‘t hate it. I have a habit of trying out as many books as possible about books, libraries, book stores, writers, etc. The cover is gorgeous, and that‘s it‘s selling point for a lot of people. But it has the word “book” in the title, so I was doomed. What made the book so entertaining for me was discussing it with Littens. And I heard book recs.

IndoorDame I‘m also not a fan of much besides the cover at this point. 8mo

vlwelser It's hard to care about the outcome. Like who cares about the will? Or if Essie is alive? Or if all of this is fantasy land and Liv is hallucinating? Maybe she and Anthony have been hiding in Italy bonking each other while they laugh about tricking Liv into writing the latest book. Imma stop.... 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 8mo
TheBookHippie @megnews meee too! @DanaManiac is on the fence as well. 8mo
CatLass007 Oh yeah, that cover is gorgeous. This is absolutely, positively the best example of “don‘t judge a book by its cover.” 8mo
DanaManiac @Sargar114 Yes indeed!! 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 it‘s a lesson well learned 😵‍💫 8mo
DanaManiac @TheBookHippie argh the story with Hank has me leaning towards her being alive. All of this emphasis on November 1st! (edited) 8mo
mcctrish I read this last summer and the only things that have really stuck with me is I loved the cover, I was really disappointed. I do know it would have been vastly more fun to read with all of you ( but I didn‘t like it enough to reread or bring it with me in vacation 🤣🤣) 8mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 8mo
CatLass007 I do have to confess that if a book is about a writer, a reader, a bookstore, a library, then it‘s on my list. Have I covered all my bases in that last sentence? I‘m as addicted to books as I am addicted to reading books about books. 8mo
AmyG I love Nov 1….it‘s my son‘s birthday. And my love stops there. I think Essie is alive. I will also say this is an easy to skim story, so I like that, too. I should finish it today in probably a whopping 10 minutes. 8mo
Sargar114 @mcctrish totally understandable. I think a lot of us would have bailed if it weren‘t for the group. Misery loves company, lol 8mo
Larkken I …think? I‘m happy I caught up to y‘all? 😅😜 put me in the Essie is alive camp. That would at least make the end slightly interesting. 8mo

julieclair @CatLass007 @megnews Me too! Or even if it just has a picture of a book on the cover! 8mo
julieclair I think Essie is dead. 8mo
CatLass007 @julieclair I think Essie is dead, too. But I‘m sticking by my prediction that Essie was having an affair with Liv‘s dad. 8mo
julieclair @CatLass007 I'm so hoping you're right! 🤪 8mo
CoffeeAndABook Hahaha well this is discussion is SO MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE than the book itself!! 😂 trashing it communally is making the reading of this miserable tale of pettiness so worth it!! 🤣 At this point I believe Essie is dead because it would be too inspired a twist if she weren‘t 😵‍💫 8mo
DebinHawaii I vacillate between dead & alive.🤷🏻‍♀️ At this point I just don‘t know or care that much. The discussions are much more entertaining than the book! 😆 8mo
peanutnine @vlwelser 🤣🤣🤣 @megnews I'm leaning towards Essie is dead 8mo
vlwelser @peanutnine my pet theory is that she never existed in the first place and it's really just Liv and a time machine. 8mo

OriginalCyn620 I think Essie is alive. I don‘t really care what happens though. I‘ll be glad to be done so I can put this book in the Goodwill pile! (edited) 8mo

TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I do so agree. Our mass hatred of the narrative is what keeps me in it! 8mo
TheBookHippie @CoffeeAndABook ♥️🤷🏻‍♀️ it‘s all we have at this point! 8mo
Read4life I don‘t think this book is capable of twists like Essie being alive or her having had an affair with Liv‘s dad (even if she knew him). 🙄 I believe she‘s dead. 8mo
Catsandbooks Put me down for Essie being dead vote 8mo
kspenmoll Unfortunately I left my copy of the book in NH while visiting my sister. ( my subconscious working?!)She offered to send it but decided it was not worth the $. Feel much the same so far as everyone. So I cannot join in discussions but still will read them! 8mo

mollyrotondo This started off with such promise and then completely unraveled. I still haven't a clue why Liv is investigating Essie's love life. This turned into a lost love story rather than a woman finding herself through writing story. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick It's fun to have a bitch-fest here along with everyone else. Phaedra gets nice book covers but maybe it's to mask the poor story inside. I haven't been largely disappointed yet today...maybe I can finish this. 😆 8mo

Hank.

Liv feels there‘s something more
And UM THE KISS?? As Essie … UMMMMM

vlwelser Hank is kind of an ass. 8mo

TheBookHippie @DanaManiac I thought the same on both of those things …👀 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I assume the author is divorced or… never married 🤷🏻‍♀️but probably divorced.. 8mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie I agree. Probably too recently with this much anger. And I‘m great with stories about anger. But stories ostensibly about romance where people are drawn to abusive figures 🤮 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa is she a child of divorce or divorced and remarried 😅 8mo
IndoorDame @Karisa the description sounds good but I‘m still gonna skip her next one 😂 8mo
Sargar114 All these characters are terrible. I don‘t understand after Liv has proven herself to be a liar and manipulative people are just like yeah okay I‘ll spill the details of my life with this extremely private person 🤔 8mo
Sargar114 Also, did everyone else predict that she would be missing the husbands big event for his company to basically go talk to another man to what end I still don‘t quite understand. I know the husband isn‘t great, but I feel like Liv‘s shortcomings are way worse and bother me so much morw (edited) 8mo
Karisa @IndoorDame And another great book cover, but pass. 😅 8mo
megnews This whole storyline was stupid. She couldn‘t have a baby so I cheated then regretted it. I felt bad for his kid. I can‘t suspend my disbelief in this day and age that that‘s ever why a man cheats. Give me a break. 8mo
Karisa @TheBookHippie Writing can be a form of therapy, I guess. 8mo
TheBookHippie @megnews I so agree. Men cheating HAS ZERO to do with THAT. Ughhhh. 8mo
CatLass007 I never even thought about what this said about the author‘s perspective on life. Don‘t they always tell authors “write what you know?“ I guess that somehow escaped me. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa people RAVE about this author 🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😑 8mo
AmyG I have nothing to add. This book is just one big grievance story. 8mo
Larkken @AmyG 💯 8mo
julieclair @Karisa That new book actually sounds pretty good! But like @IndoorDame , I'm hesitant to read it. 8mo
TheBookHippie @julieclair Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me comes to mind!! 8mo
DebinHawaii The author is 50/50 for me now-one like, one disliking, but I‘m not inclined to seek out another of her books because I am disliking this one much more than I liked her other book. (OK, that made sense in my head!)😆And that kiss scene with her dressed as Essie may have made me throw up in my mouth a little! 🤢 (edited) 8mo
peanutnine @Sargar114 yeah these men are willing to share all their secrets to someone who just claims to know Essie? Seems sus 8mo
peanutnine And the kiss was so weirddddd 😵‍💫 8mo
OriginalCyn620 Okay, the kiss was weird. The fact that she made herself up to look like Essie was weird enough, but then she lets a kiss from Essie‘s ex-husband happen. Liv can kiss whoever she wants as far as I‘m concerned, but as herself! I‘m just tired of her pretending to be other people and of her having absolutely no backbone when she‘s not. 8mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie @megnews He tells this whole sub story about him cheating but Essie couldn't get pregnant and that made them drink (I think they were already alcoholics before they got together) and then he cheated and had a baby with someone else. And he was so sad about it and feels bad for hurting Essie. But then he tries to kiss this strange woman dressed as Essie. Yeah he cheated because he couldn't have children 🙄 he is just a cheater!!! 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Can Essie come back to life now & sort things out? Hank kind of kissing Liv as Essie?! This better be some convoluted St Elsewhere thing where it's revealed this was all a fever-dream or snow globe bullshit. Of course she was missing the husband's party, though, byt the sound of it, she wasn't needed. I get supporting each other, but I don't want my man tagging along to sit around feeling unnecessary. Stay home in your undies & relax! 8mo

I get the vibe of make your marriage work at all costs - in many different scenarios -so wrong.

The mocking of wealth or nice things- just sounds like an envy/jealous, bitter, angry it‘s not me, really off type person, along with other underlying tones.
Very resentful. Chip on the shoulder?
It all makes me about puke.
It has a truly mean tone.
A lot of assumed troupes and stereo type messages.

Is it the authors feelings ?!

vlwelser It's like the entire book is full of envy and lies. Not sure this author and I would get along. 8mo
IndoorDame I hate the ‘you make your marriage work at all costs‘ message. It opens the door to so much unhappiness and abuse. And I feel like the younger generation is starting to hear it more often again which makes me really sad. 8mo
Karisa I was hoping through the first half that the author was just setting up how much the characters needed to grow for a big payoff when they do. However, as @vlwelser pointed out, it‘s just been lies and envy. Liv needs to live her own life. 8mo
See All 18 Comments
TheBookHippie @vlwelser HA. No. Hard pass. 8mo
Sargar114 @TheBookHippie I agree it‘s so mean. I got angry, resentful, and mean vibes from the beginning. The part that is so infuriating is that Liv blames everyone else for her life. No personal responsibility and all woe is me. 🤮 8mo
megnews Like @Karisa I thought this was going to be a growth journey but it just keeps getting weirder. I don‘t see growth. 8mo
CatLass007 But it all will be miraculously straightened out in the end. 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 that‘s what I‘m afraid of!!! 😑 8mo
AmyG Ugh….sums it up perfectly. Yes to what everyone said. (edited) 8mo
Larkken :( time to turn the speed up to 2x on this audiobook 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Larkken 😂 👍🏼 skim mode if you‘re reading instead of listening 🚀 8mo
DebinHawaii I liked the other book from the author I read because even though the MC was a bit beaten down (& if I recall she had more reason to be than Liv), she changed & grew with the book, while it feels like Liv is just getting worse. But it was 4 years ago I read it so…🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘m really disappointed in this one. 8mo
peanutnine @IndoorDame yeah no marriage is worth putting up with abuse. It is sad how many people are scared or ashamed to leave a relationship that's not healthy 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @vlwelser @Karisa Agreed! And married or not, there‘s no reason to stay in a miserable, toxic relationship. 8mo
mollyrotondo @IndoorDame Extremely dangerous. So scary and sad. 8mo
mollyrotondo I also thought this book was going to show growth but Liv does get worse and worse. This was not the fun book I wanted it to be lol 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The first quarter wasn't too bad. I don't want perfect characters, so Liv being a bit judgey was fine. Added depth & gave room to grow. But we didn't get a chance to see why all these men are still hard-up over Essie. Liv is just a sad human. There are so many implausible and ridiculous scenarios and plot points just to lead to the next stupid trouble. I may need to get a buzz going to finish. 8mo

So, Anthony college sweetheart…

Thoughts on this??

vlwelser Not surprised. Don't care. 8mo
DanaManiac This didn‘t feel like as big of a reveal as I think it maybe was supposed to feel?? Idk 8mo
IndoorDame @DanaManiac I agree. That was basically my guess about him. 8mo
See All 23 Comments
Sargar114 Agree with everyone, not surprising and if you‘re gonna hold out that long for the reveal…make it more interesting. 8mo
megnews Yeah I felt I already knew he loved her and there was some past relationship. Pretending it was a surprise… ridiculous. Seems to be the theme for my comments. 8mo
CatLass007 Meh, 8mo
mcctrish @vlwelser 🤣🤣 8mo
AmyG I already guessed she had some sort of relationship with Anthony. Is Essie their love child??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 8mo
Larkken @CatLass007 😆😆😆😆 8mo
Larkken Anthony is being a weird jerk with all the threats and could have been actually helpful. This book needs to get on with it and have someone be likeable already 8mo
CatLass007 @Larkken I was going to comment that we haven‘t read any books in a while about likeable people. But that was just a brain fart in which I confused this with #CampLitsy23.🧠💨 8mo
Deblovestoread Norman Love chocolates? Swoon…. Storyline meh 8mo
julieclair So much for my theory that Anthony was her son, lol! 8mo
Sargar114 @julieclair that would have been too interesting for this book. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Sargar114 totally 💯 it‘s like the big reveal about their mystery relationship was the exact first thing that came to mind and then we discarded that idea because it was too easy. Turns out - wasn‘t too easy!! 😂😂😂 8mo
julieclair @Sargar114 😂😂 Sad but true! 8mo
DebinHawaii @julieclair I was convinced he was her son or at least nephew from the beginning. I thought he was younger than Essie & not the same age. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Definitely would have been more interesting! 8mo
peanutnine @julieclair @DebinHawaii same! Disappointing 😞 8mo
OriginalCyn620 Yeah, this wasn‘t a surprise at all. So far, everything has been meh. 8mo
mollyrotondo @DebinHawaii I also thought Anthony was younger. I picture him as a young man for some reason. 8mo
mollyrotondo I didn't like Anthony's story about his relationship with Essie. He admitted to still loving her and that it was one sided. But he married someone else while still being in love with Essie? That's not fair to his wife. This made me like Anthony significantly less. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yeah, I thought Anthony was younger, too. I don't care enough to go back to the beginning to see what phrasing made me think that. Maybe the book editors had the same indifference. I guess Anthony said if he can't be with the one he loves, he'll love the one he's with. Until they divorce. Is there anyone here who isn't shady? 8mo

The lunch with her mom and learning her patents had marriage woes when he died. Her mom telling her to have some thing for herself…

vlwelser That looks delicious. 😍🤤 8mo
IndoorDame 😋😋😋😋 8mo
Karisa More reasons to feel okay about letting her own marriage go. It feels like Liv should have realized no marriage or person is perfect by her age. And yum! 🍓 8mo
See All 15 Comments
Sargar114 That restaurant scene made me cringey. Using Essie‘s name to get more stuff…more identity theft, cool. Their heart to heart about her parents marriage, meh 8mo
CatLass007 I keep expecting to find out that Essie had an affair with Liv‘s Dad. 8mo
AmyG @CatLass007 HA! It occurred to me at one point that maybe Essie has some relation to Liv or family and that‘s why she picked her to finish the book. This entire story is kind of nuts. 8mo
Larkken Yum. …I should make strawberry shortcake 8mo
Deblovestoread I‘d take that dessert over this book any day of the week 😂 and in this day and age there is no excuse to walk into a restaurant not knowing what to expect…. 8mo
julieclair @CatLass007 Now that would just be the icing on the (strawberry short) cake! 😂 8mo
DebinHawaii @Deblovestoread Seriously—one Google search to see the menu & reviews before walking in! 🙄 @TheBookHippie And now I‘m craving strawberry tarts! 🍓🤤 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @CatLass007 Oh, that would be good! It‘d probably be the most interesting thing about this book. 8mo
mollyrotondo @CatLass007 that's amazing! I didn't think of that. That would actually make sense. But it doesn't justify all the nonsense in between 😂 I think it's so weird that Liv finds it shocking her parent's had issues. It's like Liv and her sons live in a bubble. 8mo
CatLass007 @mollyrotondo A lot of parents try to shield their kids (even when they‘re grown) from the difficulties they experience as a couple. My parents didn‘t, but I know people whose parents did. But no, the lying has no justification. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick MMM...desserts. I might need to make a cool dessert to beat the heat. Regarding the restaurant, how is a recluse writer the name-drop that gets Liv a table at a swanky restaurant, where they will promptly feel inadequate about being there. What the shit, Phaedra?! 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @CatLass007 Now THIS!!! This would make the end of this book mildly interesting. 8mo

The FLOWER deliveries
Essie sent them to HERSELF 😵‍💫

Makes Liv feel …..

vlwelser Who doesn't send themselves flowers? I mean why the heck not? I'm cheap. I buy mine at the grocery store. 8mo
DanaManiac I‘m sure Liv will start doing the same next time she dresses up as Essie 🤣 8mo
IndoorDame @vlwelser ditto 😆 8mo
See All 19 Comments
TheBookHippie @vlwelser @IndoorDame SAME!!! or GASP I pick them 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
TheBookHippie @DanaManiac 😂😂😂😂😂 8mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie oooh wildflowers, one of the things I miss most about living in the country! 8mo
Sargar114 Heck yeah to Essie! ***Starts singing Mylie Cyrus***🎶 8mo
CatLass007 I think it‘s kind of sad that Essie sends the flowers to herself. When I lived in New York, I frequently stopped by the corner grocery to buy myself flowers to put on my desk at work. But I never let others believe that they were from a secret admirer or anything like that. It was just something I did to pamper myself. Five dollars for a dozen roses? Can‘t beat that with a stick. Of course, I haven‘t lived in New York for sometime. 8mo
mcctrish @Sargar114 I‘m with you and Mylie, Essie sending herself flowers was the most likeable part of the story 🤣 8mo
AmyG Mostof us buy flowers for ourselves. If I were rich I‘d send myself the really nice arrangements, too. 8mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG ohhh me too!!! 8mo
Larkken This was actually a good red herring. And funny. And I agree, relatable! I wish this book was about Essie getting her mojo back, not her cleaner figuring out her relationships are shit and toying with writing a book for the first time. Ooo maybe Essie is faking it?!? 8mo
DebinHawaii @AmyG and I‘d add in champagne & chocolates to the delivery! 😉💐🍾🍫 8mo
AmyG @DebinHawaii Ha!!!! YES! 8mo
peanutnine Okay but the fact that Liv lies and says Essie wants to send a thank you to the sender and the florist not seeing that as a red flag.... 8mo
IndoorDame @peanutnine haha, totally! Once the scene went there I was so confused 8mo
OriginalCyn620 I too buy myself flowers. At the store or florist. Then bring them home. Like a normal person. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
mollyrotondo I wouldn't send myself flowers only because they normally bother my allergies in the house, but I would definitely have fancy chocolates sent to me monthly lol but i felt like this was another unimportant point related to this investigation Liv assigned herself. I don't understand why she is trying to sort out Essie's love life when she is supposed to be finishing a fiction book about Georgia. This whole plot is weak. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I, too, buy myself flowers from the grocery stores when they look nice. And it's not a price-gouging holiday. I got 20 mini roses from Trader Joe's for like $8 last week. A STEAL! Maybe I missed something, but I thought flowers were delivered regularly, but the florist made it seem like it was twice a year. But I miss Essie. I wanted that cold Miranda Priestly-like heart to thaw. Liv is a doormat and doormats are boring. 8mo

Johnny asking if they were getting divorced…
Him being with her at all?! Why?

—letting CHLOE IN 😵😵‍💫🥴
Oy.

The “Deal” with Chloe … thoughts?

vlwelser Why do you need to babysit an 18 yo? This book is weird. 8mo
IndoorDame I really want the super obvious kid noticing that they obviously need a divorce to plant that idea in her head and make it happen 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 8mo
DanaManiac There was literally no reason for him to be there other than to let Chloe in, which was also the move of maybe a 6 year old kid. So a stranger shows up requesting access just as your Mom leaves, and your brain doesn‘t think to wait or call Mom??????? 8mo
See All 17 Comments
Karisa 🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
Sargar114 1. Makes sense that the kid would see how they were acting with each other and jump to that conclusion. 2. @DanaManiac totally, but also if he‘s 18 why would you let a stranger into a house you don‘t own…and what kind of person slimes her way into a house cause she outsmarted a teenager. I didn‘t really love Chloe here, but I guess you‘re not supposed to (edited) 8mo
Sargar114 3. That deal was dumb. As a reader I 💯 would rather want to know what happened to Essie and why she is a recluse rather than whatever nonsense Liv came up with about a character in a story 8mo
megnews Honestly again I was picturing him as 12 because what adult would let a stranger into someone else‘s house. It‘s ridiculous 8mo
CatLass007 This was all pretty stupid. I have gotten some interesting book recommendations from Liv, but that‘s probably all I‘m going to take away from this book. There is such a thing as willing disbelief. But this author seems to expect the reader to bend over backwards. 8mo
AmyG Chloe is just the “bad guy” in the story. The son being there set up the scene. All of it seems absurd. 8mo
Larkken Chloe is an idiot. Steal the manuscript, dummy 8mo
Deblovestoread I get the kid feeling the tension and asking about divorce. I started asking about my parents in 4th grade…but what 18 year old let‘s in a stranger? And really is Chloe any different than Liv? Both manipulating events and people to suit their own purpose. 8mo
julieclair @Deblovestoread Ooohhh... Great point about Liv and Chloe being just alike! 8mo
DebinHawaii I agree with everyone here 💯% The whole deal from her son being there every day to him letting in Chloe, to the deal was dumb. Chloe would be an idiot for taking it & surely, at least her editor is smarter than that about which article would really “sell.” 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @Deblovestoread Excellent point about Liv and Chloe! 👍🏻 (edited) 8mo
Read4life At this point I‘d be shocked if something wasn‘t absurd or ridiculous in this book. 8mo
mollyrotondo I'm honestly not interested in the Chloe storyline. I think she's a nuisance and Liv's son is a dope. I see the sons as clones of the father but dumber which isn't fair because we don't actually know them but that's yet another flaw to the character development in this book. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Me: Oh, the kid picked up on the parental tension. Smart Kid. Also me: This total shit-for-brains really let this rando into his mom's recluse boss's home?! Me again: HOW HAS HE NOT NOTICED ESSIE ISN'T EVEN THERE?!!??!! And if Chloe says “hon“ one more time...I'm going to get stabby. This is coming form someone who occasionally says hon, too. 8mo

Why wouldn‘t she check the hotel room she was supposed to be in?????? 🤷🏻‍♀️

vlwelser The husband is gross. And possibly the entire family. 8mo
IndoorDame He totally is an adult! Who likes in a city with public transport. Has two working parents. The intelligence capacity to make a damn sandwich with one arm… The fact that he and the husband both seem to think he needs a babysitter 😡🤬🤯 8mo
DanaManiac Man, her husband and son really pissed me off with the whole broken arm shenanigans. I keep feeling like I misread their ages!! No sense of independence from the sons, and no sense of obligation to anything but his business for the husband. Why didn‘t she check her hotel room??? 8mo
See All 32 Comments
Karisa Yup! Too much of a set up all for what purpose? Too feel more sad for Liv? To allow a way into Essie‘s home for Chloe? Sheesh 8mo
Karisa 🤣 That image 📕💨😂👏👏👏 8mo
TheBookHippie @DanaManiac SERIOUSLY 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa the image is accurate of my feelings 😂🤪🤦🏻‍♀️ 8mo
Sargar114 I‘ve never broken my arm or been around someone who broke their arm, but it doesn‘t seem out of the realm of crazy to have someone around to help out at least the first week or two while you figure things out. Especially when they‘re as seemingly incompetent as these boys…but I guess that‘s how they were raised 8mo
Sargar114 I agree with Liv on the sisters birthday, if you don‘t have the money you can‘t go on the fancy spa holiday. Be a grown up and tell her you can‘t afford that but maybe take her or make her a nice dinner. If she‘s decent, she‘s understand. 8mo
megnews When I read I view the kids as kids because that seems to be how the author wrote them. It‘s very strange. The sister‘s party pisses me off. Tell her you can‘t afford it. How ridiculous. He‘s a user at this point. 8mo
CatLass007 The whole broken arm thing pissed me off. It wasn‘t Liv‘s fault that it happened. Why were they all angry with her? Her husband and sons are misogynistic babies. 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 8mo
TheBookHippie @megnews I‘ve gone back and looked up the boys ages from the beginning over and over in case I‘m not understanding 😵‍💫 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I worked in nursing with one so 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
AmyG What @Sargar114 said about not being able to afford the spa. The son broke his arm yet it seemed like an escape from death. Not a fan of her family but I am guessing Liv has enabled them so…here we are. 8mo
Sargar114 @AmyG totally enabled them! 8mo
Deblovestoread Agree with all this…misogynistic men, raised to not be independent and if your business is struggling how do you blow $ on a fancy party. WTF 8mo
julieclair @AmyG Yes! She totally enabled them, probably to give herself a sense of self worth and/or control. 8mo
julieclair If the business is doing so badly, how does the sister have the money for the fancy spa birthday? 8mo
Sargar114 @TheBookHippie I just relooked at this picture and am cracking up! Definitely how I feel reading this one. 8mo
Sargar114 @julieclair so many inconsistencies! 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I may print it out and put it inside book before donating..... 8mo
Sargar114 @TheBookHippie Please post a picture of that when you do 😂😂😂 8mo
DebinHawaii Love the image!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I agree with everyone about the men in her family being babies but as @AmyG mentioned it does seem like she has enabled them. I feel like the husband was hinting at them paying for more than just them at the spa & is about to ask Liv for more money with his notes shoved under the pillow. 8mo
peanutnine Ugh this whole part made me so frustrated, like everyone else has said, these men are misogynistic babies. Like how are they mad at her bc she wasn't there when he broke his arm? Wtf would she have been able to do about it if she was?? And I do not like this sister in law at all. She's obviously super aware of the business problems if they're always whispering in closets discussing it but yeah, let's blow a bunch of money on spa day 🙄🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @TheBookHippie That image is on point! 🤣 8mo
OriginalCyn620 The whole broken arm thing pissed me off too. The husband‘s assholery has now reached a new level. 🙄 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @AmyG I think you‘ve hit the nail on the head! Liv is an enabler. And a doormat. 8mo
mollyrotondo I cannot stand that these grown kids are treated like 5 year old. Okay the son broke his arm. Why does Liv need to babysit him? Why does he have to hang out Essie's place while his mom works? He can't stay home? My mom broke her wrist last November and I went to work while she stayed home. I helped her change the bandages and drove her places but she took care of herself while I was working. I just hate Jake. 8mo
mollyrotondo I also don't understand how everyone is paying for a spa day when no one has any money according to Jake. I think he has a gambling problem or something. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The sister just seems like an entitled dipshit. If she handled the company's books, well, no wonder the business is tanking. If Jake watched the books, well, he's just a flat out dipshit, too. The sons are kids. I think they're 18 (broken arm kid) and 20. Maybe Liv (or Jake or other kid) could meal prep for him to stay home, but no grown-ass 18 year old needs to go to mommy's bosses house and lay on the couch, making himself at home. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This image is perfect! I'd have thrown my copy if I wasn't reading on my tablet. Jake is an ass-hat and I can't imagine what he's hiding. Is Katrina his sister or his “sister“, in a HornPub kind of way? 8mo

Any clues what happened?
Also Essie went to college, but didn‘t let on?

See All 32 Comments
Karisa Why would Essie hide going to college? Was it a dig at people like JK Rowling having a difficult backstory before being an author (like they are faking it for publicity)? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa because romance author readers are not educated ? Is that what the insinuation is? If so that‘s truly gross. Liv liked her because no college?!?! What? 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser it‘s on mine as well. 8mo
Sargar114 Liv seems resentful she didn‘t go to college (oh woe is me and look how bad my life was - please read that in sarcastic font)…I‘m not sure why she looks down on people that did go to college. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I‘m assuming the author couldn‘t afford or go to college and is a bit butt hurt 🤣😅🤦🏻‍♀️😵‍💫🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
megnews Not surprised by this at all. As a rule. Working class people do tend to think academics are worthless and I think it‘s an inferiority complex. 8mo
CatLass007 The whole college/no college thing escapes my understanding. 8mo
TheBookHippie @megnews I‘ve never run across it personally. I know it exist, but it seems over the top in this book. 8mo
Karisa @TheBookHippie Oh yeah, I forgot the whole Liv feeling a connection to Essie because no college. How silly! Especially since Liv‘s put-on-a-pedestal father was an English teacher (college required). 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa it‘s gotta be the authors anger at her own life.. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
Karisa @TheBookHippie Funny how we are all connecting the author so closely to her character just as Liv is doing with Essie/Georgia. 🪆🪆🪆🪆😂 8mo
AmyG Croatoa is a beautiful country. Friends went to that bar in the caves and the pictures were amazing. Anyway…who cares if they both went to college. WOW… 😳. I don‘t really much care at this point. This book is a bit too ridiculous for me. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook Wow that bar is amazing, thank you for finding a link for us @TheBookHippie !! I did in fact enjoy the (brief) descriptions of Dubrovnik and looked up a few things. That goes on the plus side of the book!! And the college / no college deliberations? Sheesh 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ 8mo
TheBookHippie @CoffeeAndABook Right? I do not get it....... 8mo
DebinHawaii Loving that bar! 😍 I think the thing I like least about Liv (& there‘s a lot not to like) 😉is how judgy she is about everything & everyone, even herself. I was rooting for her at first but now she is just getting on my nerves! 8mo
peanutnine @Karisa 😂😂💯 8mo
peanutnine Croatia seems like a beautiful underrated country to visit 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @Karisa 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😂 8mo
mollyrotondo @DebinHawaii I was also rooting for her in the beginning. I thought the start of the book was pretty decent. But then you actually get to know Liv and her character is just not appealing. She thought Essie was not college educated but became a success anyway so there's hope for her (even though Liv does nothing to try to still reach a goal without being college educated). Then she finds out Essie did go to college and she's disappointed... 8mo
mollyrotondo ...(because now she's all alone in the no college camp?) I feel like Liv has just made excuses for herself over the years (like we all do sometimes) and she can't get out of her own way. If she regrets not going to college, go back to school. If she wants to be a published writer without going to school, then write a book and try to shop it around or self publish. She needs to have goals and right now she's pretending to be Essie and gossiping. 8mo
DebinHawaii @mollyrotondo Really good points! The judging & the excuses both are annoying! 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Sven was kind of intriguing, but then he was gone. Since I'm likely behind the rest of you at this point, should I finish the book or just pick up a Croatia guide book? If I remember correctly, they are joining the Schengen Zone so it'll be even easier to travel there from other places in Europe. That bar looks amazing. I bet the locals take a date there to really seal the deal. Hubba Hubba. LOL This book is silly. 8mo

OriginalCyn620 @peanutnine I do remember that too. But I‘m with the majority of the group…this book is weird and I‘m not invested in Liv‘s character or in what happens to her. 8mo
Read4life Let‘s face it. The author isn‘t going to stop the ridiculous, far-fetched storytelling. Unfortunately, I can‘t shake the feeling that (miraculously) Liv is going to redeem Georgia & Essie, end up with a writing career and a doting husband all while stumbling across Essie‘s true love. I see several more book throwing moments in your future @TheBookHippie 😖 8mo
TheBookHippie @Read4life This is EXACTLY how I feel it will end as well. Ughhhhhhhh. 8mo
mollyrotondo @Sargar114 @AmyG I am also mostly skimming at this point. I totally missed the phone thing. I just noticed the phone thing enough to know her husband was annoyed she didn't pick up because their son broke his arm playing recreational sports and he's like a college student 🙄 They act like their kids are 3 years old. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I think it was Sven's phone. Or perhaps I just didn't care enough to care. But of course, if she didn't forget her phone, her family couldn't guilt her into not being available, while on a “work trip“ in another country, for her grown ass son's broken bone. Did they expect her to fly home to attend to that?! If that's the expectation, maybe this is (reason # 67543) why I don't have kids. 8mo

Liv or Georgia Rory as she looks in the mirror…
Does she have no sense of self or is she changing or allowing herself to be herself? Or??? Thoughts ?

IndoorDame Method acting? 8mo
vlwelser This book... 8mo
DanaManiac lol Liv has no identity- she‘s playing dress up and can only do things differently if she pretends she‘s Essie or Georgia. 8mo
See All 23 Comments
Karisa @DanaManiac Sad but true! Maybe she‘ll break out and have some real growth at the end? Not holding out a ton of Hope at this point. 8mo
Sargar114 @vlwelser so true. @DanaManiac 💯 @Karisa me neither! 8mo
CatLass007 She‘s pretending to be someone else. Maybe she‘s always pretended to be someone other than who she truly is. 8mo
megnews Yeah I think she has no sense of self. Trying to be someone else. But that doesn‘t help her find her own identity 8mo
AmyG I agree with all of you…Liv has either no sense of self or just hates who she has become and wants to”pretend” to be someone else why she can. It‘s actually quite sad. 8mo
Larkken Whatever happened to her whole “cleaning makes me feel sane” thing? She‘s lost her own plot 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 This could be! 8mo
julieclair I wonder if she ever did know who she really was? She seems unable to function without pretending to be either Essie or Georgia Rory. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook I could go along with her „channeling her inner Georgia“. But somehow morphing into Essie? We never got a clear enough sense of who she is or any kind of relationship to justify that. It just feels weird 😵‍💫 8mo
TheBookHippie @CoffeeAndABook IT IS SOOOO WEIRD!!!! 8mo
DebinHawaii It feels like she has never felt “enough” as herself & sadly, it doesn‘t seem like she will ever will feel that way. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
peanutnine Seems like she's never really had a good sense of self. Before she was playing the role of wife and mother and now she's playing Georgia/Essie. When this is all over she's gonna be left with nothing and reeling 8mo
OriginalCyn620 I don‘t think she has a clear sense of self and never did. And that she‘s not satisfied with her actual life, so she‘s pretending to be either Essie or Georgia. That may give her moments of happiness but she‘s never gonna have lasting happiness until she figures out who she is/wants to be and starts making changes in her real life. 8mo
LaraReads @peanutnine yes! For sure. If she doesn‘t know who she is, how are we supposed to know (or even care) who she is? This book is so strange. 8mo
TheBookHippie @LaraReads it‘s sooooo weird!!!! 8mo
Read4life I agree that she doesn‘t truly know who she is. Plus, the way she talks about what her father would say makes it seem like she thinks he‘s the only person who believed in her or knew her. It‘s sad and frustrating. 8mo
mollyrotondo @CoffeeAndABook yes, I could also go along with Liv channeling her inner Georgia, her favorite book character. That makes sense. Showing how much the character can help her break out of her own rut. But that's not what the author is doing. Liv is all over the place. She has no idea how to be her own person and I do not think she has learned anything more about herself at this late stage in the book. Maybe that Jake is a jerk? But that's it. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Liv has ZERO sense of self beyond being a “reader“. I totally get trying to get into the head of Georgia for the sake of writing the book - WWGD? The mystery of who is ultimately Georgia's love of her life mimics the mystery of Essie's love life & what led to her being a recluse. But to write at Essie's place, wear her clothes, trying to embody her...I'd have called her some help long before this breakdown. Full-on creep mode. 8mo

The dinner. A film maybe-for the new book!
Meg. The food. Marlon.
All over the top- too much to believe??

IndoorDame Honestly, Essie‘s whole life seems too good to be true. I keep thinking no romance/detective author can be Steven King famous, Right? 8mo
vlwelser Meh. It seems like a lot of this was filler. 8mo
DanaManiac It did feel over the top. I was on edge the whole time reading because there was no way she should have gotten away with pretending Essie traveled there and just was never seen! 🤦🏾‍♀️ 8mo
See All 21 Comments
Karisa @DanaManiac I thought she‘d be found out while there too. I guess Chloe knows something was up, but everyone else was fine even with two hotel rooms and stalker-ish fans. 😂 8mo
Sargar114 @DanaManiac @Karisa I don‘t know how she didn‘t get caught other than that‘s the way the author wrote it. It would have been far more believable if she said Essie didn‘t make her flight cause she wasn‘t feeling well. This whole book is ridiculous. 8mo
CatLass007 I was pretty certain something would happen to give her away. 8mo
megnews Like everyone else, I thought surely she‘d be found out on this trip and was just waiting for it to happen. Some pretty naive folks not to figure it out. 8mo
AmyG Yes, I thought the lie would be revealed…but no. Liv gets luckier and luckier. 😳 8mo
julieclair This was when the book crossed the line into "too silly for me to enjoy" territory. 8mo
DebinHawaii I thought for sure when it mentioned she took the two manuscripts out of her bag & left them on the bed in Essie‘s room that someone would find those. So many dumb decisions like not ever going into “her” room & leaving her phone. Someone besides the desk clerk should have figured it out. 🤬 8mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 8mo
peanutnine @Sargar114 definitely would have made more sense for her to say Essie stayed back last minute instead! So dumb that no one cared more that she didn't show up to anything @DebinHawaii I thought something was going to happen to the manuscripts also! Don't just leave them lying around!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @DebinHawaii Exactly! Even I would think to go into “my” room and roll around on the bed at the very least! Liv really does not have any sense about the simplest stuff. 🤦🏻‍♀️ (edited) 8mo
LaraReads @Sargar114 yes! Completely ridiculous! 8mo
Read4life @julieclair I agree. This discussion group is why I‘m still reading this one. So many bad decisions and then everyone just going along with her far fetched stories. 8mo
kspenmoll @Read4life Totally with you. Maybe I subconsciously left my book in New Hampshire for this very reason!!!! I told my sister not to spend $ to mail it to me!!! 8mo
mollyrotondo 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂@kspenmoll 8mo
mollyrotondo This whole trip made zero sense. I honestly started to think that Liv must be dreaming this whole experience. Who puts together a discussion panel with a famous author, finds out from the assistant that that author has a headache, and just says aww okay no problem? That's something that happens in a fantasy sequence, not real life. It would have made more sense for Liv to stand up to Jake and leave to go sit in a hotel to write. 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo I agree! It‘s so far from reality 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I refuse to believe that Liv wasn't found out & that the agent and publisher are taking this new assistant's word for it that Essie has a headache. The ENTIRE time?! It's not like it was close to home. And to not make your own room look used? C'mon! This whole scenario is like amateur hour. My 8 year old niece has more common sense than that. I was hoping and praying someone would figure it out and bribe her as a consequence to her actions. 8mo

How did you like the wedding dress story????
What does it say about Liv ..if anything…

IndoorDame To me the story said more about the author than Liv cause I had zero clue l if I was meant to end that section thinking she was a pushover for sacrificing something she wanted and always regretting it or that she was responsible at that time of her life for not spending money she didn‘t have and making her mother feel guilty. 8mo
vlwelser That she doesn't stick up for herself or go for what she actually wants and settles for less? Yeah. Pretty hard to miss. 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I think the author is pissed about not being wealthy 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
See All 36 Comments
TheBookHippie @vlwelser is it the author of the character or BOTH ? 😅 8mo
DanaManiac It didn‘t leave me with the best impression of Liv because of the fact that she had the other dress in mind when their wedding day arrived. I mean, was it REALLY only down to those two dresses? It felt like the story was included to give context to her people-pleasing ways now that she‘s breaking out of that. 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame @vlwelser I was LOL I bought a used dress had it altered. It made me laugh because it was only a hundred dollars for me but one not used exact same dress 1200 dollars .. my friend and I just laughed our asses off… how ridiculous … but she knew to go to the really high end shops and go to the used section I had no clue. 8mo
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie good for you. The wedding industry in this country is obscene! 8mo
Karisa @DanaManiac 💯% agreed! 8mo
vlwelser But that's on brand for you. And you got something great. This character seems to think buying a used dress is somehow less. Or the author does. My sister got a lovely dress for about $100 because it had a spot on it. Well that spot came out. 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser exactly used = less than. So ridiculous … my clothes are GASP thrifted 😂😂 8mo
Sargar114 I guess it was supposed to make me feel bad for Liv, but really it didnt. In fact, it made me angrier. Her mom explicitly told her not to worry about the price so if you didn‘t listen and said no that‘s on Liv. Don‘t try and make me feel bad or that it was your “sacrifice” Huge eyeroll. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 SAME!!!! 😵‍💫 8mo
vlwelser That's very gen z of you. So good for the environment. 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser I grew up this way 😅 hippies 🙃 my kids and grandkid too 90 percent thrifted clothing. My daughter is realllly good at it. 8mo
CatLass007 I don‘t know if she was trying to save her mother money or what. But it was her decision, and she needed to accept the decision she made. 8mo
AmyG Just Live doing everything for everyone else but herself. Until NOW. 8mo
Larkken I found the penny pinching fairly relatable. And the regret? Well she was married super young and immature. Too bad she never grew out of that. I‘m really struggling with this character as I see some things I do in her actions, but then her thought processes go absolutely wacko! I 💯 agree this author is working through her own sadness at not reaching Essie levels of author love 8mo
julieclair I am still trying to figure out why this story was included. And really, on her wedding day, she's thinking about a dress? What about the man waiting for her at the end of the aisle? And the beautiful life they are suy 8mo
julieclair *supposed to be starting together? 8mo
TheBookHippie @julieclair I‘m not sure she ever loved him. He asked and was the only one to ask her out so??? And she‘s too caught up in her bitterness and self pity. 8mo
julieclair @TheBookHippie You're right. Honestly, it's kind of amazing their marriage has lasted this long. Inertia, probably. 8mo
TheBookHippie @julieclair I do NOT understand the get married as being the end all be all, so I was struggling with this part anyway. BAHAHAHA...... (the ONLY reason I am married legally is because it was important to Mr Book Hippie-What I remember from that day is the look in his eyes and his grabbing my face for a kiss and squeezing my hand. That and my friend saying it was the best day of her life shed never seen two people so in love get married... WHAT?!) 8mo
julieclair @TheBookHippie Now THAT is a perfect description of what a wedding day should be! 😃💖 8mo
DebinHawaii @DanaManiac Yes! Like those dresses were the only two options in the entire city? Also, it seems like she made better money choices young than she does now. 8mo
DebinHawaii @TheBookHippie I love that about your day! 🤗 8mo
OriginalCyn620 Everyone should get married in whatever they want to. Some of us place the most importance on the dress because it‘s such a big day. Some of us place less importance on the dress and concentrate their wedding efforts elsewhere. It‘s all fine! Different strokes and all. But what irritated me about Liv is that she clearly wanted a really nice dress and her mother told her not to worry about price. She didn‘t even discuss with her mom how to to 👇🏻 8mo
OriginalCyn620 Possibly economize elsewhere. Maybe if she had she could‘ve had the dress of her dreams? And they went to like, what, two shops and she bought the first used dress she came across. That‘s crazy! Shop around, you idiot! I know she was young but come on! If I was supposed to feel bad for Liv, it didn‘t work. 8mo
LaraReads @OriginalCyn620 “you idiot” 😅😅 yes, I am finding it harder & harder to even like this character at all! 8mo
kspenmoll @OriginalCyn620 Coming in late to the discussion- I have bern away. This whole wedding dress scenario made me sad & impatient with Liv. 8mo
mollyrotondo @Sargar114 exactly! I don't feel bad for Liv. Cry me a river! You sacrificed the wedding dress you wanted? That's what you are going to focus on now in your midlife crisis? It just seems so petty and a waste of a story to show how much this character sacrifices. I don't feel sorry for her. I'd feel bad if her mother refused to help her pay for the dress she wanted or something like that. Someone else holding her back. But she made that... 8mo
mollyrotondo ...choice and now this many years later she is wallowing in her own self-pity. She annoys me more and more. 8mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie beautiful wedding story! That's what I want to feel on my wedding day if/when the day comes. I remember being in a wedding when I was a kid and the bride saying after the ceremony that all she kept thinking as she was walking down the wooded path to get to the front was how she just wanted to get to the groom and be next to him and nothing else in the moment mattered. I also said that that's how I want to feel. 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo ♥️♥️♥️ 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo choice is right and I kept help but think the author is a bitter chip on her shoulder person. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Like the others, I don't feel sorry for her. Liv could've shopped around more or had a simpler dress altered a bit to make her happy. It's not all about $10k ball gowns. Sad that THAT was where her thoughts were on her wedding day. I get making responsible money decisions, but to pick any ol' white dress? Nah, I don't feel bad for you. You weren't dirt poor deciding to eat instead of get fancy. 8mo

Just me?

IndoorDame Hahaha. No it‘s so weird to me that she‘s SWF ing her to such a crazy degree! 8mo
DanaManiac It‘s definitely weirding me out too. Like, she really believes dressing up gives her brand new thoughts and perspectives… 8mo
vlwelser I think it's odd. Also this pic... Did you get this off the Wayfair site? 8mo

Karisa @IndoorDame 😂😂😂 8mo
Karisa I thought it was cute when she dressed like Georgia—kind of a fan thing to do. But then when she dressed up like Essie and went to see her ex, um, no… Too far. 😬 8mo
Sargar114 So weird! Makes me so uncomfortable! 8mo
CatLass007 Liv is living out a fantasy. But she seems to have gone off the deep end. 8mo
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 💯😵‍💫 8mo
megnews Definitely strange. 8mo
vlwelser If that were my closet I would fire the decorator. 8mo
AmyG I find it weird, too. Even though she believes Essie has died, it still feels wrong. 8mo
Larkken @Karisa agreed. She‘s getting into stalker territory. Or what does one call a stalker of a dead lady? 8mo
Larkken The hair cut!!! Gah 8mo
Deblovestoread Thank you! It bothers the hell out of me and she‘s so nonchalant about it. 8mo
julieclair Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. It's creepy. Like she's trying to actually become Essie. 8mo
TheBookHippie @julieclair IT IS SO CREEEEEPY! 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @Deblovestoread Yes that‘s it!! Not only is it creepy but doesn‘t even reflect on it, doesn‘t question herself doing it. It feels SO OFF!! 8mo
Sargar114 When she got the Essie haircut I legitimately had to put my phone down and step away, I was thinking WTAF??? This is how true crime stalker documentaries start 8mo
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I did a lot of yelling WTAF as the book went sailing........... 8mo
DebinHawaii Yep! Totally creepy! 🫣😱 Like I said last time, if there is ever mention of her wearing Essie‘s underwear, I‘m out! 8mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 8mo
peanutnine @Sargar114 💯 super creepy!! @DanaManiac it's like split personality! I know clothes can give you confidence but this is too much 8mo
IndoorDame @vlwelser 🤣🤣🤣🤣💯 8mo
OriginalCyn620 Definitely not just you! Wearing the clothes was bad enough but getting the haircut and color to look just like Essie‘s is taking it to a whole other level. 😳 8mo
LaraReads @DebinHawaii 😅😅😅 But. For. Real. 8mo
Read4life I agree @OriginalCyn620 A whole other creepy level! 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser So I figure to Liv this is what “rich” people dream closet would look like. It‘s underhanded snark for my own personal laughter 😂😅😵‍💫🤣 @IndoorDame 8mo
vlwelser The Gucci shopping bag is a weird touch. That's how you really know it ain't Wayfair. 8mo
Catsandbooks I totally had that feeling she was gonna pretend to be Essie. Like girl is way too comfortable slipping into that role 👀 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser 😂😂😂 8mo
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks she is very troubled 😵‍💫 8mo
kspenmoll Yes to all- feels like she is becoming Essie. 8mo
mollyrotondo At first when Liv wore Essie's scarf in order to look like Georgia I was like fine. But then she wears her clothes in Croatia while pretending Essie is there. Then wears her clothes out to lunch with her mom and uses Essie's name to get a table. And then the night out at Essie's ex's bar??? What was that??? She gets the same haircut and color and wears the same outfit in an old picture of Essie? Who does that? So bizarre. 8mo
TheBookHippie @mollyrotondo it‘s freaking me out!!! 8mo
mollyrotondo @TheBookHippie Liv is freaking me out lol 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This is getting weird AF. Dressing like Georgia to channel the character and guide her to what Georgia might do next - OK. Makes sense. Maybe borrowing a scarf or pair of sunglasses. OK, you don't have permission, but if you're living there, sure, why not. But dressing like her and getting the hair cut & colored to LOOK like Essie...that is some Single White Female shit right there. I guess no one recognizes the recluse's clothes though. 🙄 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick As for the closet/dressing room...I was with you until I saw the gold backing on those chairs. YIKES!! 😂 I like clothes, so I'm going to need a lot more space for clothes and a lot less space dedicated to sitting. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I KNOW THAT and Black Swan mixed together it‘s SO WEIRD and a bit unsettling 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 8mo

What did I miss???? Anything stand out to you??

Honestly - I loathe the husband and probably Liv, so the struggle is REAL…
OY VEY.

I hope you‘re liking the read.

I‘m up early -Winifred thought breakfast at 530am was a fun idea 🐶🤦🏻‍♀️

Happy SUNDAY !!!

I will try to behave with the book this week😵‍💫

IndoorDame Winnie is so spoiled 🥰🥰🥰 8mo
vlwelser Winnie's the queen of the castle. 8mo
AmyG Ha, Winnie. I will say, while I miss not having a pet, I don‘t miss getting woken up for food. Winnie is a goddess!!! As for the book….sigh….I am now invested in that I want to find out what the hell happened to Essie, but not my favorite. 8mo

CoffeeAndABook I‘m not NOT enjoying the book, but it has weird flaws and I‘m not in love with anyone in it, especially Eve and Essie. Anthony is intriguing and that mysterious viking-like guy with the beard and the tattoo sounds VERY interesting to me, I‘m picturing him super handsome 😍😂 and even after two weeks of reading I still feel pleasure from looking at the cover ☺️☺️☺️ 8mo
CoffeeAndABook Happy Sunday and thanks for the fun prompts @TheBookHippie 😃🙋🏼‍♀️🌻 8mo
Karisa Lucky 🐶! We are getting a puppy in a few weeks and I‘m devouring dog training info. 😅 I‘m enjoying the book despite it‘s obvious flaws. Goofy summer read, book reader that wants to be a writer fantasy. 8mo
Read4life I was wondering what had you posting so early. I should have guessed it was the amazing Winnie 🐶. I‘m invested despite (because of) the 😣 feelings towards her, her husband & other flaws. I think it‘s a pretty good July read with just enough intrigue to keep me reading. 8mo
DanaManiac I‘m curious enough to stick it out and see what happens, but if I don‘t finish it because I‘ve gone into labor, I wouldn‘t be heartbroken 😜 8mo
TheBookHippie @DanaManiac 😂😅 I‘ll be thinking of you. ♥️ 8mo

Karisa @DanaManiac Congratulations! So exciting! 💗 8mo
DebinHawaii Aww… Winnie 🐶😍 I am okay with the book so far, much depends on the second half. I did enjoy one of the author‘s other books so hoping it ends up well. But if not great, it‘s light for July & I‘m good with that. @DanaManiac Congrats! 🎊 8mo
AmyG @DanaManiac Best excuse to not finish a book in time for book club-Ever! All the best! 8mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I had heard the author was okay. This is my first read of hers. 😂 8mo

Catsandbooks Oh Winnie! 🐶❤️ I cant say I'm really enjoying the book but I'll keep trucking along 😂 8mo
julieclair This is a light and easy summer read (or listen, to be accurate. 🎧) I‘ll forget it the minute I finish it. 8mo
Sargar114 I think at this point I‘m hate reading. I‘m curious enough to keep going but I don‘t think there is a character I like and it all feels very unbelievable. 8mo
peanutnine I've agreed with everyone's thoughts on this book so far! (Love reading all the conversations even though I rarely comment) It's an easy read to get through, although the characters are super frustrating 8mo
mollyrotondo I‘m not enjoying this one but I‘m happy it reads very fast and I certainly don‘t hate it as much as 8mo

Liv and her first meeting of Essie..
The second time?
Fate?

What do you think of Liv?

Croatia!
😅👀🤯

IndoorDame I want to know if she was hired by Essie or a PA 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame oooo good one. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
megnews Liv has good and bad so well rounded believable character to me. Where her husband feels more like a caricature. I want something good to come for her from this whole thing. 8mo
See All 23 Comments
vlwelser There's something funny about the way this book was written. I don't know what it is. Trying not to be judgemental. 8mo
AmyG I thought this Croatia thing was a bit crazy and unbelievable. Everyone just brushes off Essie being “ill”. It doesn‘t ring true to me. Alot of this story is basically people just overlooking or brushing off things….believeing what they want to believe. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook @AmyG hahaha that‘s so true!! But I do think people do that all the time, or at least more than they ought to. It‘s probably just easier 🤷🏼‍♀️ and I agree @vlwelser I can‘t quite put my finger on it but there‘s something weird about this book. Maybe there will be a crazy twist that we can‘t see coming yet!! 🌀 8mo
Karisa Croatia also feels like a long-shot fantasy for Liv. I feel like she could‘ve just said Essie was back in reclusive mode and everyone would‘ve believed that. I guess it only barely works because no one has seen the writer for so long. @CoffeeAndABook I‘m hoping the twist makes some sense! Can this book stick the landing? 8mo
DanaManiac I can‘t believe Liv is really pretending that Essie is there in Croatia but just sick. I mean the flights were booked for them and no one has even seen Essie…if she doesn‘t get caught, I will know this is just lots of wishful thinking. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa ha the ending will probably have me tossing book out the door… 8mo
TheBookHippie @AmyG right? Everyone is on fantasy island 😂😂😂😂 8mo
TheBookHippie @vlwelser same. Something is OFF. 8mo
DebinHawaii It will be interesting to see how it all works out. I do find it hard to believe that everyone believes Essie is in Croatia but has a migraine. I would think the publisher would be more angry after paying for Essie & her assistant to be there & then not seeing or talking to her at all. It will be interesting to see what happens at the big dinner. 8mo
DebinHawaii And maybe it‘s just me but after the outfit that makes her look/feel like the book‘s heroine, I find Liv to be too liberal with Essie‘s wardrobe & things. It borders on creepy for me. (If she starts wearing her underwear I‘m out!) 😆🫣😱 (edited) 8mo
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii it‘s very creepy to me 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 8mo
OriginalCyn620 @megnews Yes! Same here! 8mo
OriginalCyn620 And agree that this book is a bit weird! 8mo
Catsandbooks @DebinHawaii totally agree. She seems to be making herself quite comfortable with all of Essie's belongings. Like I wouldn't be surprised if she just pretends to be Essie at some point 🙄 8mo
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks Black Swan vibes 8mo
Sargar114 @AmyG I agree about Croatia. I keep thinking, okay so now you‘ve swindled the publishing company out of two plane flights and hotel rooms (one of which is a suite) and after this is said and done you should be arrested. 8mo
Sargar114 Their various meetings also feel too good to be true and hard to believe, I‘m sure it Will ridiculously come back around in the end. 8mo
AmyG @Sargar114 Exactly. Funny how everything just falls into place. 😳 No one questions much of anything. 8mo
mollyrotondo This whole Croatia part makes zero sense to me. How does an airline in the 21st century, post 9/11, not bother to check for a passenger‘s ID and whereabouts? And why would the person who was all about scheduling panels with Essie just accept that Essie had a migraine. This part is beyond unbelievable. Is Liv in a coma or something dreaming this? Is all this happening inside a snow globe? It‘s definitely weird. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick The first two meetings I guess could be fate. But this whole Croatia situation is completely ridiculous. I'll give the pass to her knowing the series so well that she can make recs to the international publishers, but the excuses and no one seeing Essie is just a major fantasy-land scenario. I don't mind when she channels Georgia, or grabbed something for the meeting with the ex-husband, but it sounds like she's trying to be Essie everyday. 8mo

What do you think about the Chloe situation?

📸😂😅🤷🏻‍♀️

IndoorDame It takes guts to reschedule a perfect strangers meeting. That isn‘t an antic that wouldn‘t even occurred to me. 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I think she‘s in fight flight fear mode which gives her an at all costs motivator … 8mo
vlwelser I did think this was sort of clever and amusing. But it seems like this woman that's been doing cleaning jobs has an awful lot of insight into how to work the PA scene. 8mo
See All 20 Comments
AmyG It was ballsy. I think we have not heard the end of Chloe. Is she the one who digs and finds out Essie is not around? Someone is going to find out. 8mo
LaraReads Now this part was interesting! I liked it! 8mo
CoffeeAndABook Yep this was fun, less passive-aggressiveness and more chuzpe on Liv‘s part 🙌🏼 8mo
Karisa Chloe is pushing Liv along and enlivening Liv‘s sense of loyalty to Essie. The meeting rescheduling was clever. I‘m still am not buying why Liv needs to investigate Essie though. Isn‘t revising and finishing a novel, especially one that will end a beloved series, enough (too much) work for a new writer as it is? 8mo
Read4life I think Liv is frustrated with so many things and Chloe was the last straw. She is desperate to keep her from finding out about Essie and that motivates her to act. I also feel that her investigation into Essie comes from 1. Her fan girling 2. Her belief that learning about her past will unlock where she goes with the book & characters. 8mo
DanaManiac I liked this portion of the story. Though, I did wonder how Chloe knew she was looking at Essie‘s writing room…I wonder if we‘re done with her just yet. 8mo
Deblovestoread I am trying to tie in why Liv needs all this background on Essie to finish the book. And while her ingenuity in changing the appointment was clever but can‘t imagine that someone would open up in the situation. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Deblovestoread maybe Chloe knows the truth?! 8mo
DebinHawaii Chloe seems annoying & definitely like she is not going to give up. I agree, I like that Liv took her appointment & how she went about it but that‘s only going to push Chloe more. I don‘t think Chloe knows the truth yet but I think she‘ll figure it out. 8mo
OriginalCyn620 I liked this part too! I think Chloe absolutely will not give up and will figure out what‘s going on. I know she‘s just doing her job but also can see why Liv is freaking out about her. 8mo
Catsandbooks Chloe is tenacious and this won't be the last we see of her 8mo
julieclair Perfect photo of my mental image of Chloe! 😀 8mo
TheBookHippie @julieclair 😂♥️ 8mo
Sargar114 Chloe adds a sense of urgency to the secrecy portion of this escapade. I also thought it was clever to reschedule the meeting but agree it was weird that the ex was like cool let me open up to you. A lot of this book is hard to believe. 8mo
mollyrotondo Chloe at least keeps some tension moving the story forward. Tension that‘s not domestic abuse 😒 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Karisa @Deblovestoread I see it as Essie set up this book to lead to Georgia finding her true love. Liv wants to dig into Essie's love life as a guide for how the book should end. The search, and thwarting the obnoxious Chloe, is just a means for Liv to get into the mind of Georgia to aid in the book writing. Getting in Chloe's way was pretty fun and I think she's changeling Georgia. 8mo
Karisa @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Yeah, I see what you mean. It is cute how Liv keeps using the tie and trying to put herself into Georgia‘s shoes. The character‘s style must be iconic because the other fans seem to recognize what Liv‘s doing. I wonder if authors do make an ongoing character a lot like themselves often or if it just annoys authors like it does some actors to be called the by names of their characters on the street. 8mo

HOW I WRITE-
what did you think of this part?

IndoorDame I thought from a plot perspective you only needed the last sentence 8mo
AmyG I am guessing it might have been helpful to Liv, words from Essie on her process. 8mo
CoffeeAndABook I read that whole passage with interest. I was hoping for more insight but thought it pretty helpful for someone trying to write anything. 8mo
See All 9 Comments
DebinHawaii I actually liked that part. I‘m always interested in how authors write. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 8mo
Catsandbooks I wonder if it's how the actual author writes? 8mo
julieclair I thought this was actually pretty interesting! 8mo
mollyrotondo I thought this was contradictory to her bitter interview we read earlier in the book. But maybe this was written earlier in her career. I didn‘t love it. It didn‘t give me any insight into what is really going on with Essie. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This was a contrived way for Essie to give Liv advice from the great beyond. Essie was the only person who seemed to know Liv. It's sad that she doesn't even seem to have a friend. 8mo

Liv‘s husband response to her new job
“You, why?”
And was he saying she had to ask him?!
What did you think ?
Also his opinion of the writing ..
And the “I knew you could do more than cleaning?!”
And the “is that a new blouse it looks expensive, you‘ll be two grand to be seen with me soon…”
The way the husband is grates me. He is demeaning to her. “It‘s not going to be real writing”?!
SO ABUSIVE.

Book throws… 🤬😡🤮

Thoughts?

IndoorDame Hate her husband! And their whole relationship! He treats her like shit, she lies to him… UGH 😣 8mo
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame THE WHOLE THING IS BAD! 8mo
mcctrish Since I read this a while ago and I‘m away, I decided not to bring the book with me to follow along or reread. I do remember that I was not happy with a lot while I was reading ( the cover was such a grabber for me ❤️❤️) 8mo

megnews They‘re not compatible. 8mo
vlwelser I'm not sure I even like this book. 8mo
AmyG I don‘t like either of them…Liv and her husband….and their marriage. @vlwelser Ha, same here. 8mo
LaraReads Hate him! Really hate the way she is with him. It all just creeps me out. 8mo
LaraReads @vlwelser 💯 It‘s gonna have to turn some characters around real quick! 8mo
CoffeeAndABook They‘re both bad with each other. I‘m not getting any kind of vibe as to why they‘re even together or were ever together. No respect or appreciation for each other. I think they‘ll have separated by the end of the book. I was APPALLED at the scene where he accidentally knocked her down and actually injured her while trying to answer the phone. He didn‘t even apologize for that, only for answering the phone at all. 😡 8mo
Karisa The husband makes no sense to me. Wouldn‘t someone who makes books have more respect for writing? Wouldn‘t a husband have more respect for his wife or just even know her? Why set up a date night then still answer calls from his sister? If he is so busy and dismissive, why is the whole family there to send her off on a business trip? 8mo
Read4life Their relationship is just toxic. Every time he tells her the boys could need her makes me want to slap him. 1. He‘s their parent, too. 2. They‘re in college & heading to college. They shouldn‘t need mommy to know where their clothes are, feed them, etc. The date night was as messed up as their relationship. 8mo
DanaManiac Their relationship is just 🤢. He‘s so condescending, rude and clearly in denial about his business. She lies like it‘s as easy as breathing. @Read4life I think he‘s used to using the kids as a reason to get her back home to deal with things he doesn‘t want to. Except now they‘re freaking grown! So weird! 8mo
Read4life @DanaManiac Exactly! 8mo
Deblovestoread Hate him, don‘t like her, can‘t understand why they are still married…. 8mo
TheBookHippie @Read4life 💯💯💯💯 8mo
TheBookHippie @DanaManiac 🤮🤮🤮 8mo
TheBookHippie @Karisa is it his sister ? Is he cheating? Is something else going on? Is this how the author thinks marriage is??????? 8mo
Karisa @TheBookHippie Exactly! 8mo
TheBookHippie @LaraReads creepy is the correct word. 8mo
DebinHawaii It‘s a bad toxic relationship all around. She has a few flashbacks to how great they were together in the early days & I think “…was it really?” I don‘t get the sister thing either. Maybe he is cheating @TheBookHippie (hopefully not with his sister) 😉 I get that the business may be going under but the calls urgent enough to drop everything for (including your wife. On her head.) 🙄 seem excessive! 8mo
OriginalCyn620 Agree with everyone. The husband is a real douche canoe! I hope he‘s gone before the end. 8mo
Catsandbooks I hate them and their relationship. The lies, the miscommunication, the treatment of each other. ? when he threw her off and she got hurt during their "date" I was done! I would have DNFed if not for the group. 8mo
julieclair Their relationship is definitely toxic, and I doubt they will stay together - nor should they. I‘m wondering if the husband is into some other kind of financial trouble besides the business. Like gambling or something. 8mo
Sargar114 Everything about their relationship feels wrong. They‘re terrible to each other. I‘m with @vlwelser 8mo
mollyrotondo I hate the husband!!!! I‘m not a fan of Liv but the husband is verbally abusive and condescending. Every time he opens his mouth I want someone to come in and punch him. He‘s so belittling. And when he threw her off him to answer his phone? I mean something is seriously wrong with him. @julieclair I also wondered if he could be involved in some other shady business besides his family business going under. He‘s so horrible. 8mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Dude has to be involved with something more than just a struggling business. They are a book binder. What is so urgent on a Saturday night? You can't call your sister back a little later, so you'd rather knock your wife over? Liv isn't great, but girl needs to put on her Georgia Rory outfit, pack her bags, and kick him in the dick on the way out. The boys are effectively adults. They can want their mother but don't need her to baby them either. 8mo
