I‘m having a fantastic reading year! This book was such a masterpiece that I had to force myself to slow down so that it wouldn‘t end.
If you enjoy complex family dramas and ballet, this book is for you!

“Love, like lobster, is for people who aren‘t always worried about the bill. (Or the mess.)”
Not embarrassed to say that I cried multiple times, the writing completely wrecked me. Art, the complex relation between a daughter and her parents especially with her mother, complicated romance, and the everlasting career growth journey form the real essence of this wonderful book.
If you enjoy the world of ballet or novels about messy family relationships and dreams, you may enjoy this book.
Nothing beats rainy days off reading.
Told from the perspective of an adult Carlisle, and alternating between her past and present, this is a story of family drama, love, belonging, betrayal, the sometimes fragile bond of the parent/child relationship, finding peace, and ballet. It is elegant and gorgeously told. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2023/10/review-theyre-going-to-love-you-by-meg....

Easy to read but well written novel set in the world of ballet. Carlisle is the daughter of two ballet professionals and aspires to be a dancer but is prevented by her height. The focus is, however, family and betrayal. The protagonist is frustratingly selfish and dishonest but I am not sure her actions or any action of a child warranted such a long estrangement.
Beautifully written, much like ballet. Dance, family drama and insecurities. Read in 24hours and loved every minute.🥰
I had to think long and hard about how I felt about this book. Objectively yes it was good and I feel like it was written pretty well. I think what gets me is that I liked and related to the narrator and then I found out that she lacked serious morals and was the problem in such a weird way. Anyways I‘m left feeling unsatisfied and like this book was forgettable but maybe that‘s just me. I recommend it bc it‘s still good tho.

Sitting here in my tiny library and debating if the migraine has subsided enough to start this one.
2-28-23: My February Book Wrap Up! 13 books! Really enjoyed all of these but my favorite was They‘re Going to Love You. That got 5 stars! ⭐️📖🎊🥰
2-25-23: My 24th finished book of 2023! I loved this one! Carlisle, a ballet dancer from a family of ballet dancers, it too tall to make it even though she has a beautiful facility about her. Set in 2016 but reverting back to the 80s and the AIDS crisis time period, Carlisle will spend her summers with her father and his partner James at the Banks Street apartment in NYC. When James asks Carlisle for a huge favor it will backfire ⬇️
This is a book that exceeded my expectations.. a book about family and a coming-of-age story in one. Ballet plays a central part in the story and the bond in the family. There is a betrayal and it made a compelling read to find out the cause/ what happened as the story switches back and forward in time. It is set during the AIDs crisis but very much a backdrop in the story. A beautiful character- driven novel with wonderful writing. #readinglife
I found this to be a solid story about family, dreams and dance and how it doesn‘t always jive the way we‘d like it. This is a strong read but I did find fault with the end but that‘s just me perhaps #balletthemedreads challenge.
Carlisle wanted to follow in her mother‘s pointe shoes and be a professional ballerina, but she‘s far too tall. She does find her way in the dancing world but only after a blowup with the father that finds them estranged for almost 20 years. Overall, I really enjoyed this exploration of family, though when the blowup is finally revealed, I thought it could have been done a bit better, as I was a little unconvinced.
Welp, we are having a true blizzard. But we have plenty of food (if the power goes out we will have to eat cookies) and I have plenty to read including the tagged book which I‘m really enjoying. Hope everyone is safe and warm!
A story about family, friendship, love, betrayal and ballet. Beautifully constructed and elegantly written. I loved it. If I'd read this before the #AuldLangSpine deadline it definitely would have been on my list. In my top 10 for the year.
A new guess for a new #Aardvark clue. What do y'all think? Any other guesses?? This one's hard!
? = The book spans decades and shifts from past to present
? = The synopsis describes it as a magnetic tale of betrayal, ART, and ambtion
? = The MC's father lives with his partner in NYC while the AIDS epidemic is impacting their community
? = A "passionate love affair" causes a rift
