Number 12 on my #BookSpin list is BOTM backlog. This book has popped up in different online places for me this week so I think this the obvious choice. Salem approves.

The Attic Child reimagines the history of thousands of children of African descent who were kidnapped or sold into slavery during colonial times.
Listening to Dikembe‘s story was hard. But his final accomplishment, success & peace, was a refreshing perspective - an ode to those who survived and thrived despite these atrocities against them.
Lowra‘s story falls short for me. While I did feel sad about her beginnings, her story felt unnecessary.

I love this one. A compelling, dual timeline story of two children with a shared traumatic experience. Set in the Congo, and London, England.
I'm quickly running out of books. I only brought 4 and this was the third. 3 days left and 1 book. And then I'll have to kindle or read on my phone. This seems like either a weird math problem or just a book nerd problem.
This book is fine. But it's really heavy. 2 children in separate time lines are locked in an attic. And imo it should be about 100 pages shorter.

My BOTM selection - and I really liked it. Perfectly paced, held my attention, interesting turns. Walked away marveling
how humanity can be both atrocious and charming. This was my other #bookspin this month. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Two children trapped in the same attic, almost a century apart, bound by a secret.
I couldn‘t put this book down. So good. Five stars!
I loved this story and I couldn‘t stop reading it. Dikembe/Celestine took hold of my thoughts, and I had to know how his story ended. I wish I had to suspend disbelief to consider a child locked in an attic but sadly it‘s all too believable.
This was my BOTM selection and it was such an emotional read. Told in multiple POV‘s it‘s about two different children being kept in an attic. This story touches on race, privilege, sexual assault and at the core strength. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read. Have Kleenex handy. Yeah I say that a lot. #bookspin #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
