Finally sat down to catch up on my reading journal and do my February #readingwrapup. So much reading in February!

THIS WAS SO GOOD! I was so hooked, I was genuinely annoyed that I had to go to work and had to wait to finish this. When the pieces all finally slot into place, I had to put the book down for a couple of minutes - just to process. *chiefs kiss*

I mean… I think I still hold the crown for the most unusual name in the family…

Certainly no fancy name stickers in the shops with my name on it… (a source of such disappointment for my younger self)

Is Ashleigh not a reasonably common name?

It‘s 1.30AM and I‘m reluctantly putting the book mark in 😫

This is a story of a cult with a charismatic leader, a baby, a dead cop and revenge. Told through a series of emails, letters and transcribed conversations, it is a complicated story with a convoluted plot. It is, however, surprisingly entertaining and it all makes some sort of sense at the end. The writing style works well and I particularly enjoyed the comments the transcriber inserts into her notes. Thanks to Edelweiss+ for my digital ARC. 4/5

A very entertaining mystery. I enjoy the different format, where the story is told through different mediums - notes, interviews, texts etc. It definitely kept me guessing, though I didn‘t 100% love the ending. 4.5⭐️

Engrossing, engaging, can't put it down fun. With cults and true crime authors. Hallett's books are best to go into knowing as little as possible, and with a healthy suspension of disbelief. Just sit back and enjoy! It was the perfect palate cleaner after a few heavy books about grief.

Can't stop reading. I love Janice Hallett's style of storytelling. So out there and fun.

I find Hallett's books so addictive! Wanted to read this straight through once I started, but had to, like, with and do life stuff. But now it's the weekend, so diving in and not looking up until it's over 😅.

Sure to be one of my favorite mysteries of the year. I love what Hallett does with the epistolary format. Entertaining, unique and satisfying. I‘ll be eagerly awaiting her next!

I couldn't stop. The premise, the way the whole book is just written through transcripts, whatsapp messages, it's gripping, it's engrossing and it's absolutely all consuming. I was racing to read what happens at the end. It's been ages since I have read a good mystery and this is definitely one.

So excited about this! I've read all her books.

Loved this one. It‘s told in the author‘s usual quirky style, this story told via way of emails, texts, interviews and even a script. I was very much gripped by it. The plot is very complex but clever and the characters well rounded. An absorbing mystery.

Library book. I loved The Twyford Code so hopefully I‘ll enjoy this one, too. The Appeal is on my Kindle TBR.

Well she's won me over. This is the book where her epistolary style works 100% for me. The mystery is very good I don't want to say a word more than that. But people who love a complex plot will be very happy. I will say that I feel both The Appeal and The Twyford Code had cozy aspects to them. There is nothing cozy about this book, everyone has sharp edges. But it is very well done, original and hugely entertaining.

This is the third book by this author, I really like the different formats used text messages, emails, scripts and interviews. I enjoyed it but still The Appeal is my favourite.

I used some Christmas money to buy these newly published books. I will probably read the tagged book soonish.

I have an enormous fondness for epistolary novels. Hallett embraces the format with great skill, bringing the style into the 21st century utilising modern communication methods to launch her plot. She masterfully creates a complex plot dripping information, misdirecting and leaving the reader to interpret evidence as the story moves along. She has done this so well in her previous 2 novels,
