At first the book was a bit slow; seemed to be about too many people who never set foot outside their homes, but the book although lacking in any real depth grows on you!
Treated myself to a visit to my local Indie bookstore for my birthday( tomorrow). It‘s 12 miles away, so I enjoyed listening to my current audiobook. Peaceful backroads. My mission was to pick up my pre-ordered book (I choose recently published book monthly as a member of this bookclub), and of course, treat myself to 2 more books! 📚 🎂🎉🎁

pickI loved Der Buchspazierer! It has been translated into many languages including English with the title The Door-to-Door Bookstore, but I don‘t know if the translations would completely capture the charm of the original. (Sometimes translations are spot on, but not always! I‘ve learned to appreciate that art as well.) This was the delightful book that I needed to end 2024 before turning the page to a new year.
pickThis ended up being heavier in tone than I anticipated, but it provided a beautiful contrast with lighter, warmer and quietly triumphant moments, and the happy ending. The characters introduced are at once simple caricatures and lonely people with real world problems. The answer is as much about community and connection as it is about books. 1/?
What criteria do you use to recommend books? I just go by how great a read they are where I would put the on the best 100 list and what emotion I felt while reading the book … if it was a life lesson (or psychology) kind of book it would be harder aa those are included in the 100 list 🙌🏽📚😊📖

pickThis is a short novel in translation (from German) about an elder gentleman who delivers books to a fun cast of characters from a bookstore. He has literary nicknames for each of his customers, and little routines at each stop. It‘s mostly light and fun, though there is a bit of violence, check warnings if needed.
I‘m enjoying the return of my bee garden after a bit of rain and drop in temperature.

Sometimes you just need a book that reminds you of the goodness in people and this book does just that. It's a fast moving story about a "book walker" who delivers books to customers and becomes friends with a young girl. And it's a bonus that there's a lot of talk about books in it. ?
I loved this one and it worked well as an audiobook.

pickMy #bookspin for March, finished just in time. And I am not sure yet whether it was a bit too much or just right. But I think it‘s a book I should have read instead of listened too. It felt nice but something felt a bit superficial and I can‘t really point my finger to what it was.
