The Cookbook Collector
The Cookbook Collector: A Novel | Allegra Goodman
NATIONAL BESTSELLER Emily and Jessamine Bach are opposites in every way: Twenty-eight-year-old Emily is the CEO of Veritech, twenty-three-year-old Jess is an environmental activist and graduate student in philosophy. Pragmatic Emily is making a fortune in Silicon Valley, romantic Jess works in an antiquarian bookstore. Emily is rational and driven, while Jess is dreamy and whimsical. Emilys boyfriend, Jonathan, is fantastically successful. Jesss boyfriends, not so much. National Book Award finalist and New York Times bestselling author Allegra Goodman has written a delicious novel about appetite, temptation, and holding on to what is real in a virtual world: love that stays. I really love this “sorry“ pic!
I'm guilty, I have many books in the queue too!

I read this as a Sense and Sensibility adjacent book for #pemberlittens . However, it did not work out too well for me. I could not get myself invested in the characters as there were too many subplots. The part that attracted me to the book in the first place - the cookbooks, was one of the many plots interwoven into it.

I read this for #PemberLittens as it‘s billed as a Sense & Sensibility retelling. Although the two main protagonists are sisters, the similarities end there. There were too many characters, too many plot lines, and the overwrought prose began to really grate. I skimmed the last 100 pages, but as I plodded through 300 pages, I‘m counting it as read.

Meh. The title refers to the most interesting part of this book, which unfortunately wasn‘t a hugely significant part of the story. Most of the characters were self-absorbed. The chapters were jumpy. I read that the author had won awards for short stories, and that style seemed to explain the flow (or lack thereof). Another story that left me uninvested in the characters and plot. Alas. On to the next.

A perfect book to finish on #nationalsisterday the story follows to very different sisters in their lives, the oldest Emily, driven, focussed, successful and part of a tech start up and Jess a dreamer, a philosophy grad student and eco-warrior. Some wonderful messages inside this story of family and love and passions.

Starting this by my fancy reading pool. It‘s a second hand book sale treasure and I‘d not heard of it before I picked it up at the sale. So far I‘m quite enjoying it

For a book called the Cookbook Collector, it took an awful long time to have any discussions of cookbooks. I appreciated how it tied in in the end, but still felt the book was lackluster over all and wanted more.

Cinfhen Too bad it wasn‘t a total pick! Sounds like it had potential 5y
Literaturenut @Cinfhen Yeah, I was really hoping for a Like Water For Chocolate Feel with less misogyny, but unfortunately, it was disappointing on both account. (Although less so on the second count.) 5y

??”Penguin Young Readers is launching a cookbook/literary series called "Puffin Plated," the publisher told The Associated Press on Friday. The first two releases are Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice: The Classic Novel with Recipes for Modern Teatime Treats by Martha Stewart" and Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol: The Classic Novel with Recipes for Your Holiday Menu by Giada de Laurentiis, Ina Garten, Martha Stewart, and Trisha Yearwood." ?

Finally finished my first #readathon book! Overall, it was good. A bit uneven. I wasn‘t feeling the 9/11 part of the plot. But the characterizations were excellent.

#readathon check in time. I‘m over 300 pages into my book (maybe I should‘ve picked a shorter book to start with!!), and it‘s going to rain soon, so I‘ll walk my sleepy hounds now. Then lunch, then I‘ll finish my first book of the day.

Holly does not care much for my #readathon progress (100 pages so far!), but she‘ll gladly accept butt pets.

The lush cover was the best thing about this novel. But it fits the #bookandfruit prompt. #splashintosummerreads @Tiffy_Reads

Ah.... this is such a great, clever fun book!

Great quirky characters that I really got to care about, nice storytelling... and the pièce de résistance is that special #indiebookstore the story centers around ❣️

So much booklove in this book ???

Earlier, I recommended a recipe app in a comment. And when I searched for another app, I noticed several named, "What's for Dinner?" So, to eliminate confusion. I'm posting an image of the one I use.
