Legend goes that long ago a Flores woman offended the old gods, and their family was cursed as a result. Now, every woman born to the family has a touch of magic. Sage Flores has been running from her familyand their giftsever since her younger sister Sky died. Eight years later, Sage reluctantly returns to her hometown. Like slipping into an old, comforting sweater, Sage takes back her job at Cranberry Rose Company and uses her ability to communicate with plants to discover unusual heritage specimens in the surrounding lands. What should be a simple task is complicated by her partner in botany sleuthing: Tennessee Reyes. He broke her heart in high school, and she never fully recovered. Working together is reminding her of all their past tender, genuine momentsand new feelings for this mature sexy man are starting to take root in her heart. With rare plants to find, a dead sister who keeps bringing her coffee, and another sister whose anger fills the sky with lightning, Sage doesnt have time for romance. But being with Tenn is like standing in the middle of a field on the cusp of a summer thunderstormsupercharged and inevitable.

Perfect book for #naturalitsy.A library find,it has a little bit of everything:magical realism, romance, storytelling, witching of the best kind.Three sisters have inherited family gifts: Sage communicates with & heals plants.she can marshal them to do her bidding.Teal can use emotions to affect the weather-when angry, thundering & lightening storms, the dead Skye tamed animals such as bears. How do they use these gifts?Love, family, loss are themes.

kspenmoll Pictures next to the book is a small glass container of “witchy” gifts @Gissy sent me for our #yuletide including crystals, salt, a pinecone, cedar wood shavings & hawthorn berries, rosemary, mint,frankincense- perfect for this book! (edited) 2w

Don't be fooled by the cover. This romantic witchy tale with branches of magical realism deals with moving through grief and navigating tense family dynamics. But I thought it was all handled with nuance, full characters, and, yes, bits of magic. https://youtu.be/fMh_1M3lW1U

I was sick yesterday and today, and wanted something light and fun. This book just came out and I liked the premise. It was an enjoyable read overall. The environmental message was strong, complicated family dynamics were interesting, even if sometimes incredibly irritating. The romance was sweet, and it would‘ve been sweeter if intimate bits weren‘t vulgar, it felt forced and gratuitous at times. Magical realism was a nice touch.
