The Dead Guy Next Door: A Riley Thorn Novel | Lucy Score
15 posts | 18 read | 2 reading | 9 to read
"A nice, normal life. Is that too much to ask? For Riley Thorn it is. Divorced. Broke. Living with a pack of elderly roommates. And those hallucinations she's diligently ignoring? Her tarot card-dealing mom is convinced they're clairvoyant visions. Just when things can't get worse, a so-hot-it-should-be-illegal private investigator shows up on her doorstep looking for a neighbor...who turns up murdered. Nick Santiago doesn't play well with others. Unless the "others" are of the female persuasion. Wink. He's a rebel, a black sheep, a man who prefers a buffet of options to being stuck with the same entre every night, if you catch his drift. When the pretty, possibly psychic Riley lands at the top of the list of suspects, Nick volunteers to find out whodunit. Only because he likes solving mysteries not because he wants to flex his heroic muscles for the damsel in distress. All they have to do is figure out who pulled the trigger, keep the by-the-book detective with a grudge at bay, and deal with a stranger claiming he was sent to help Riley hone her psychic gifts. All before the killer discovers she's a loose end that requires snipping"--

Ok shocking… not really a huge fan either of some of this authors books … because of all the hype surrounding them… but I really enjoyed reading this book because it made me laugh throughout. I enjoyed the characters and the plot it was great. I may read the next book just because I enjoyed this first book in the series 🤗📚

I am loving this read 📚💝!

Lucky to find the first three books in this series. Since I haven't made the time to get myself to an actual bookstore (in years), I usually have to settle with only reading book “one“, or staying away from any “series“ altogether.

Took my chances because this was about a psychic. 👇

AnnCrystal The two main characters are in their 30s, which is my age bracket. Somehow, makes this even more interesting for me.

Only on chapter 20 of 60+ (which divides 460 pages). Yet, surprisingly, seems a magically fast read.

A funny, whimsical, cozy mystery that I'm absolutely loving.

I started snort laughing when Riley‘s octogenarian roommates all started taking turns using the stair lift to get to the third floor where the crime scene was…just in time to challenge “the po po” as the police showed up. When the cops asked them to wait elsewhere, Mrs. Penny said: “Why don‘t you make me, 5.0?” By then I was laughing out loud. 🤣 I‘m new to Lucy Score but after 3 books I know she‘s good for a laugh. 😆 Many laughs. 😂🤭

Ddzmini Just finished one of her books felt the same way glad I finally read the book now I can explore her other writings 🙌🏽☺️ 9mo

There were parts of this I really liked and other parts that just didn‘t work for me. It reminded me so much of Stephanie Plum which I love, but I wanted a lot more with the relationship between Nick and Riley and I just thought the story could have been done better. I may get to the next book at some point, but there are other books by this author I want to get to first!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Funny, entertaining, cozy, sexy, suspenseful, romantic. Although it was a bit of a slow burn for me, I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

#Currentlylistening to this very entertaining #cozymystery with a strong #StephaniePlum vibe, but —thankfully— without the love triangle.

jewright I absolutely love Stephanie Plum. 3y

This book is amazing! I got it on a whim and was kinda intimidated by the size (over 500 pages), but I finished it very quickly. The story moves along at a great pace, the characters are hilarious and well developed and Riley and Nick are *chef's kiss*. Cannot wait to read the sequel and Lucy Score's other books!

Argh, jargon at work...

The_Penniless_Author Hopefully at least one character uses the terms "value-add" and "level set". Oh, and also reminds another character to "stay in their swim lane" ? 3y
LiteraryinLawrence Yes! Or they could talk about leveraging synergies. 😋 3y
charl08 @The_Penniless_Author @LiteraryinLititz I think what gets me most is I end up joining in... 3y
The_Penniless_Author @charl08 @LiteraryinLititz I've definitely told at least one person that I would "take their suggestion under advisement". It's a great way to end a call you've grown sick of ? 3y

This book is preposterous, but I absolutely loved it. Riley, a reluctant psychic, falls for Nick, a dimpled PI, after her neighbor gets murdered. Too bad half of Harrisburg is now trying to murder her, because she‘s a witness.

I laughed out loud so many times! I hope there are follow-up books!
