Mary Anne Saves the Day: Full-Color Edition (The Baby-Sitters Club Graphix #3)
Mary Anne Saves the Day: Full-Color Edition (The Baby-Sitters Club Graphix #3) | Ann M. Martin
19 posts | 36 read | 5 to read
This graphic novel adapted by Raina Telgemeier, the #1 New York Times bestselling, multiple Eisner Award-winning author of Smile, is now available in full color! When The Baby-sitters Club gets into a huge fight, Mary Anne is left to her own devices. She has to eat by herself in the school cafeteria, figure out how to make new friends, and deal with her overprotective father. But the worst happens when she finds herself in a baby-sitting emergency and can't turn to her friends for help. Will Mary Anne solve her problems and save The Baby-sitters Club from falling apart? Raina Telgemeier, using the signature style featured in her acclaimed graphic novels Smile and Sisters, perfectly captures all the drama and humor of the original novel!

I‘m having a blast revisiting the BSC by way of the graphic novels! I can‘t remember the book I finished last week, but these? These stuck, down to dialogue.

It‘s always mind-boggling to see it in print, though: the parents are now my peers! When did this happen?!

Bookwormjillk When I read these now my mind is blown. They seemed so old and mature back in the day, but now I wonder who would let a 12 year old care for their kids for days on end. 2y
dariazeoli @Bookwormjillk right?? “The Pikes need someone to watch all eight of the kids. Well, two someones.” 2y

I‘m fully invested in these girls and their club. It is so nice to get up early and read one of these in one go with my morning coffee.

The perfect comfort read I needed after a looooong day of work yesterday. I used to love this series as a kid, and you can‘t go wrong with illustrations by Raina Telgemeier. 💗

Bookwormjillk I still love these books 5y
annahenke Have you listened to The Babysitter‘s Club Club Podcast? It‘s so hilarious! Two thirty-something men doing comedy and literary analysis of the books. I die every time! 5y
LiteraryinPA @annahenke That sounds hilarious!! I‘m not usually a podcast person but I will have to look that one up. 😋 (edited) 5y

This was like that SATC when Carrie and Charlotte got into that argument because Charlotte wouldn‘t help Carrie with the down payment on her post-Aidan apartment (but then realized she was mean and finally gave Carrie the $40,000 engagement ring from flaccid Trey). Except this argument is between Mary Anne and Kristy. And it‘s about babysitting...

I‘m guessing that in 2018, Trey still can‘t get it up and Carrie still hasn‘t paid back Charlotte.

BooksTeasAndBookishThings I was just watching the Nineties reminiscent series on Netflix and when this show came on, I felt like I should revisit it. It has been so long lol I wonder if it still stands up now? 6y

MicheleinPhilly This episode fully solidified my hate for Carrie Bradshaw. 6y
emilyhaldi Love your reviews!! 🙌🏻 and that was a fully RIDICULOUS episode 🙄 6y
LauraBeth @MicheleinPhilly can I borrow $40,000? 6y
LauraBeth @emilyhaldi SO ridiculous! 6y
LauraBeth @BooksTeasAndBookishThings it hasn‘t aged well 6y
MicheleinPhilly YOU can. She can‘t. She had $40,000 worth of shoes, you have not quite $40,000 worth of books. EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS A WRITER! 🙄 God, I hate her. 6y
emilyhaldi LOLOL @MicheleinPhilly and we are supposed to find sympathy for her bc she spent every last dime in her shoes!!!!! It‘s too much 🤦🏻‍♀️ (edited) 6y
MicheleinPhilly @emilyhaldi She was the WORST. 6y
Reggie @MicheleinPhilly Carrie was a total villain in seasons 3-4 and part of 5. 6y
LauraBeth @Reggie OMG she was horrible during those seasons. But also very human. 6y

It was so nice spending time with family in NY. My little sister is finishing 5th grade and is a major reader, just like I was back in the day! 😆. I was so stoked to find out that she loves The Baby-sitters club series and has stacked up on the graphic novels as well as a few others from Raina! #proudreader

riversong153 My daughter loves this series!! 7y

Such a fun graphic novel series. I love how they took a story that could feel old and out of date, but it doesn‘t. And even better, you do not need to read them in order. Currently there are only 5, but there are hundreds of Baby Sitters club books. Not everyone needs to be a graphic novel, but it would be great to have more. I won‘t lie, I do wish I had read the full color versions.

Maybe I'm the last person to know this, but the 13 episode 1990 BSC TV series from HBO is on Hulu!!! This is not that mediocre (IMO) movie; this is the series that stays true to the books. This is a show I can get behind binge-watching! 🤣🤣💜💜

annahenke That's awesome! 8y

Oops, mixed up the books last post. This was a bit like HP5 in that all the characters are fighting and everything is adolescent angsty and thus harder to enjoy. Even still I like the depiction of these characters and the graphic novel format is a fun way to reread the stories. #mommyreads #graphicnovel #adaptation #ebook

The girls have a massive falling out and stop talking to each other. I always found Mary Anne the hardest to relate to but she shines in this book, she tries really hard to patch thins up with the other members of the BSC and gradually manages to show her Dad that he can ease up a bit on his restrictions.

Believe it or not, this is my first Baby-Sitters Club! I was so excited when my library bought the Raina Tegemeier graphic novel because we can't keep her books on the shelf. It was a quick, cute read and I totally get why Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia and Stacey have such a devoted following.

I read these books as a child and now I have my pre-teen daughter reading these book sets. Raina Telgemeier does a fantastic job turning the original books into updated graphic novels. My daughter and I both loved them and we can't wait for the next two.

A big fight erupts among the girls of The Baby-Sitters Club, leaving them *mostly not-speaking for a long time. When their anger + behavior threatens the club that they all love so much, Mary Anne decides that the madness must end.

The drama is real in here -- by that I mean this is the type of fight girls this age actually have. Love! I also love that Mary Anne deals with a baby-sitting emergency + a new club member is introduced. #BSCForever 😍

MrBook Nice review 😊👍🏻! 8y
