A Question of Blood
A Question of Blood | Ian Rankin
12 posts | 13 read | 5 to read
The fourteenth Inspector Rebus novel - and No.1 bestseller. Two seventeen-year-olds are killed by an ex-Army loner who has gone off the rails. The mystery takes Rebus into the heart of a shattered community. Ex-Army himself, Rebus becomes fascinated by the killer, and finds he is not alone. Army investigators are on the scene, and won't be shaken off. The killer had friends and enemies to spare and left behind a legacy of secrets and lies. Rebus has more than his share of personal problems, too. He's fresh out of hospital, but won't say how it happened. Could there be a connection with a house-fire and the unfortunate death of a petty criminal who had been harassing Rebus's colleague Siobhan Clarke?

Rebus is always a good read. This one shows a bit of his family that we haven‘t seen before, and he reckons a bit with the impact of the army on soldiers‘ lives. This one does show its age in the technology (laptops plugged into the phone line to get internet) but the investigation techniques are timeless.

Another great read in the Inspector Rebus Series, always helps with being set in Edinburgh. However great characters, and great overall plotting which was very intricate in this one following a shooting at a school. Definitely recommend this series to those that love great crime fiction.

4th book finished for #JoysOfJune, 11th book for #BigJuneReadathon

1. My current read, the tagged book, sees me in the wonderful City of Edinburgh in Scotland.

2. My last 5 star read was The Rising Tide by Ann Cleeves, the new book in the Vera Stanhope Series.

3. I‘m looking forward to the new and third book in The Thursday Murder Club, The Bullet That Missed which is published in September.

The story opens with a seemingly open-and-shut case of multiple murder when an army veteran storms into a school and kills two students. Even though Rebus is up to his neck in troubles of his own, he's brought in to solve the mystery of why Herdman committed these heinous acts. Nothing is ever as it seems. As we follow Rebus down the rabbit hole, the situation grows as murky as the skies over Edinburgh. All in all, an enjoyable ride!

Here‘s the stack I will be choosing from during the #24B42019 Readathon over the next five days. By the time the Readathon starts tomorrow I‘ll already be part through 4 of them.

Moony Nice selection! I will read and hear all current reading on my list (at litsy). I hope I can reduce the list, so I can read my book presents from christmas, soon. 5y
BeansPage Loving the books you read! 😍💕 5y
Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid Into a mystery and Suspense mood at the moment! I can go through phases, but do like to intersperse with historical fiction and literary fiction, not to mention the fantasy books and romance books (but not the sex aspect). So as you can see a bit of everything really. 😊 (edited) 5y
BeansPage Me too 🙋🏻‍♀️ 5y
Andrew65 @Moony Thanks. The books in your list look good. I need to r Duce the amount of books I have on the go! Quite a few days since I finished one as a result. 😊👍 (edited) 5y

I can‘t seem to get enough of Rankin and Rebus! This is the 14th installment. Series should be read in order. Three plots in this one but the main plot is a school shooting. Lots of dry wit and humor. Characters are well-drawn and fascinating. Lots of twists and red herrings with a surprise ending. One of his better books. I recommend this series to those who like their mystery/thrillers dark and gritty.

Andrew65 I love Rebus and the very feel of Ian Rankin, books they almost cuddle you the way he uses the English language age. This one is next up for me in the series. 6y
Swe_Eva I love Rebus too! It‘s one of the few mystery series that has stayed in my bookshelf for rereads (I normally give away my books when read). 6y
EadieB I agree! I really enjoy listening to his audio books too! 6y

Found an Inspector Rebus that had been off my radar at used bookstore for 108 yen (roughly a dollar); 14th book (2003) in the series and what a joy. Rebus is under suspicion of murder, while dealing with what on the surface is a school shooting by a ex-SAS soldier of three students. Addresses gun control issues which feels it is happening today. All the disparate plot lines tied together brilliantly. Now I know why Rebus kissed Siobahn!

Tonton Oops, that‘s Siobhan! 6y

God I hate Rebus. Fifteen years ago my friend finagled his way into being a character in one of Rankin's novels. I had to start at the beginning and read the whole series, roughly one a year, until I found him. I'm delighted to say he finally showed up on page 78, half way through shul on shabbat, as an angry thug. Makes it all worth while really. I have the next in the series already in my TBR pile. I guess I'll get to it some time in 2018.

BarbaraBB Haha! I also started reading them but I am a bit fed up already after finishing part 3. I do have a copy of part 4 so maybe, when I am in the mood again..! 7y
