Miss Seeton Sings | Heron Carvic

Pickpick

Miss Seeton sent abroad and mistaken for a spy - misunderstandings abound! A fun change from the country setting, and a new way for Miss Seeton to innocently confound and derail the best laid criminal plans!

LeahBergen What a great edition! 4mo
mabell @LeahBergen Thank you! I was lucky to find it at our local indie bookshop! It was pristine - so I read it very carefully 🤣 4mo

Was hoping for a delightful read about the French countryside, but I did not enjoy the emphasis on objectifying women, excessive consumption of alcohol and the celebration of men‘s focus on money and what it can buy. One character was a bright light, the charming and creative, Ernest who was the majordoma for Simon, the ad executive. Finally, the bank heist at the end turned out to be a breath of fresh air! #booked2022 #SETINAHOTEL #192025 #1973

Librarybelle I‘ve not read anything by Mayle, though I‘ve seen a movie, I think, based on A Year in Provence. 2y
AnnR Thanks for mentioning there is sexism and other things going on in this book. I think I'll skip this one, even though I liked A Year in Provence. 2y
DivineDiana @Librarybelle I didn‘t know there was a movie! Did you enjoy it? 2y

DivineDiana @Ann_Reads I think I might be overly sensitive. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2y
Librarybelle I honestly cannot remember, it was so long ago! The actor who starred in the Inspector Morse series was the lead in the film. That‘s about as much as I remember! 😂 2y
DivineDiana @Librarybelle I understand perfectly! 🙂 2y
Cinfhen Great review, Diana 💖 2y

Book 56🎧
Another one that I‘ve seen the movie for years ago!
Book kept me gripped and I didn‘t put it all together until very close to the end!
Great classic thriller! #1973

CaitlinByTheBook I didn‘t realize the movie was based on a book! Will have to check it out! 3y

I got this as an Audible Daily Deal - what a steal! What a surprise! This is what I love about blindly picking up a book - you have no idea that you might fall in love. Or that you might find out there‘s even an old movie of this. And as a bonus, it might fall neatly under your #192019challenge 😊 #1973
If you‘re looking for a creepy haunted house story, seek this out - you won‘t be disappointed. Also great on audio 👍🏻

AmyG I loved this book. And the Karen Black movie. (edited) 6y

This book literally has all the feels. I laughed. I cried. I shook my first in anger. Sometimes I was bored. Sometimes I was baffled. Other times I was filled with despair. But the best parts of this crazy ride like this bit here made my heart sing. I love you Mr. Vonnegut and thanks. P.S. John Malkovich knocks this #audiobook outta the park. #BirthdayChallenge #192019 #1973

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ll have to try it on audiobook next time. 6y
KVanRead @Riveted_Reader_Melissa If you like Malkovich, you won‘t be disappointed. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @KVanRead I read it last year, and wasn‘t impressed....maybe what I was missing was great narration. 6y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @KVanRead And Yes, I could see him being a great narrator! 6y
britt_brooke I love this book, but haven‘t listened to the audio. It‘s on my to-do list! Is there a pdf for all of his sketches? 6y
KVanRead @brittbrooke No pdf that I know of but I loved how they handled it: they just had Malkovich insert things like, “ and here is a drawing of an asterisk that‘s meant to be an asshole” with a hilariously deadpan delivery. 6y
KVanRead @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I can see how not everyone would love it. I found it really hard to handle all the anger and sadness and pointlessness it evokes, but with the audio I just kind of kept letting it all wash over me and then the moments of pure beauty would stop me in my tracks. It was a really visceral experience. 6y
