Mehso-so

I have mixed feelings. The story kept me going, wanting to find out what happened next. It had a lot of drama! I also enjoyed reading a book set in Ghanaian culture. But for me personally I didn‘t like the main character, which was a big barrier. Sometimes she was so submissive and then other times she was so stubborn. I just didn‘t connect with her. I think it was supposed to show her transformation, but to me it just came off as inconsistent.

Pickpick

“The Magic of Ordinary Days” movie was my comfort watch for years, but I‘ve never noticed it was a book.
I decided to read it now because we just drove through southern Colorado. Also Camp Amache recently became National Historic Site. I really enjoyed the book. Historical context was fascinating. I loved the romantic story line as well, but I felt it wrapped up a little too quick . The book is darker than the movie, but there‘s beauty in that.

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView
1. 2008. I had my house built that year and I‘m still in it.
2. His Only Wife (tagged). The main character moves from America to Ghana.

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! Happy Tuesday 9mo

This book was good, but also sad. I felt for all of the women (except maybe Aunty.) I loved the peek into life in #Ghana

This afternoon I made spicy jollof rice with chicken while I listened to the end of this audiobook. I had sympathy for most of the women at some point during the story. I could believe in the beginning that Afi was naive enough to think her situation would change, and in the later part, I appreciated her determination to not just go along with the family‘s expectations. This was absolutely a different cultural experience for me to read about.

Texreader That dish sounds good. Ghana is definitely a different world. 10mo
Daisey @Texreader I had a hard time finding a recipe for Ghana with easily accessible ingredients that also sounded like something I would like, but this turned out great. 10mo

Luthien and I took a longer walk again today and I started listening to this audiobook. I‘m intrigued so far, but can‘t say I‘m optimistic about how the story is going to go for the main character.

“Naila, I wish you didn‘t have to miss the game,” Carla tells me.
“Game?” I check the road, on the lookout for my mom, before turning to her. She rolls her eyes, her blond hair up in its cheerleader ponytail.
