BookSpin: King of Ashes
DoubleSpin: Fairy Tale
I'm not even trying for a bingo this month 😅 I might also push the double spin to next month, but we'll see how it goes 😋 Still waiting for King of Ashes to arrive at the library...
This was an incredible story-within-a-story book with sci-fi elements. I was highly invested in Zelu's story in finding her identity and freedom within her Nigerian traditional family. The family drama and trauma were understandable to her character. Then there was Zelu's sci-fi creation story: though it was fictional, it was filled with political commentary. I give this 4 ⭐️

The Quiet Librarian is not what she seems. This book tells a dual timeline story of a woman who survived war in Bosnia but her new life in the U.S. is disrupted when her friend is killed. This would make a good movie or TV series. I‘d never read this author before but he did a good job with both parts of the story.
This is my center square for the July #BookSpinBingo card
A YA retelling of Sense and Sensibility - the youngest Dashwood, Margaret, is embarking on a 6-week cruise with her sensible sister Elinor. As they‘re boarding, the romantically-challenged Marianne shows up, hot off a breakup with suitcase in hand and announces she‘s coming along too. Now Margaret has to deal with Marianne‘s chaos, disrupting the nice quiet summer she was looking forward to.
#bookspinbingo - my #doublespin for this month!
“When our skin touches, our atoms touch, their shadows merging into a shadow galaxy.”
Chicago 1950. Rosalind Porter has spent the war years as a physicist for the Manhattan project. She misses her work but her sadness over the atomic bomb‘s devastation in Japan is overwhelming. Love triangle, espionage, secrets…

This was by far the best book in the trilogy!
Having read this before season 3 came out, I had limited knowledge on the plot line and went into this with few expectations.
Everything worked so well in this one. The book had the perfect amount of drama and suspense that the conclusion to the series needed.

The history of Iran just before, and following the revolution was interesting. I didn't care for the writing, however; and it was too long.
45/80
