4.25⭐️

I listened to this quick novella in the Kate Burkholder Series prepping supper. Seeds of Deception takes place when Kate is 14 years old. She has to decide who is telling the truth between her Amish friend, Maggie, or a teenage Englisher. It was a different take on the other books by Linda Castillo. Kathleen McInerrey is a great narrator.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

This is my #TBRtarot read for May. “Let someone else pick your book.”

Brian did a great job! This is book 7 in the Teddy Fay series & Stone Barrington put in an appearance. I just love these characters.
Stuart Woods passed away in 2022 & Battles has done a great job taking over the two series.

This is one of my all-time favorite books and I have read it probably 25-30 times over my lifetime. The characters, the setting, the fact that a few of the moments in this book still make me choke up even after all these rereads - this book is close to perfect to me.

SO IT WAS A COMPLETE SHOCK to find out that in the 1940s random sentences/paragraphs were edited out!!! The edition I grew up reading, despite clearly saying it was “unabridged“ ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) was, in fact, abridged! As was virtually every edition published from 1942-2010! But in 2010 a restored text was published. Since I didn't know it existed, I didn't seek it out, but I just so happened to purchase this edition a couple of years ago as my old faithful Bantam paperback is wearing out and I love this cover. Turns out, it's the 2010 text. So obviously I didn't read the two editions side by side noting every passage I could ⬇ 8h
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) find that had been removed, because that would be ridiculous. But if I did, the note in the picture indicates how heavily each chapter was edited - ✔is unabridged, - is only a couple words or a sentence, + is several sentences, and ++ is multiple paragraphs.

I'm still completely befuddled as to why these passages were removed. It's true, nothing vital was taken out, but there are moments of humor, depth, and character, that were cut. ⬇
8h
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) A lot of the editing were various speeches of Susan's, so maybe they just decided they didn't like her character...???? But other moments, like Rilla clinging to hope so as to not 'break faith' with Walter, Anne recounting the hair-dying episode of her youth, or more details of how Dog Monday settled in at the station, seemed so arbitrary to remove.

So it was kind of fun to do a little treasure hunt and discover that there is even more ⬇

swynn Ridiculous? I don't know, reading the two editions side by side noting every passage that had been removed or altered sounds perfectly reasonable to me. How else would you know? Thanks for sharing your research! (edited) 8h

Fool Me Once | Harlan Coben

I read this in 2016. I love Harlan Coben & his books. When I saw that Nobody‘s Fool was a sequel to this I couldn‘t figure out where Coben would be taking us. Soooo, I reread this so I can go into Nobody‘s Fool with it fresh in my mind.
Typical twisty Coben.

I finished listening to our May #WithTheBanned #WTB25 book. I‘m looking forward to our discussion. According to the author‘s website, the book is loosely based on her oldest daughter‘s addiction to crystal meth.

Hello everyone! I've been on a bit of a hiatus since I was traveling for work for the last two months and it really cut in to my reading time. The nerve! This month, I'm going to see how many of the books I meant to read in March and April are actually getting finished. But first, on to the tagged new release that I am so excited to start!

As in Feb, I'm doing two lists, one to pick my #bookspin books and the second for the #bookspinbingo board.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! So annoying when life interferes with reading!! 😂 1d

Rich Mullins | James Bryan Smith
post image
Pickpick

Rich Mullins was a Christian musician in the 80s/90s, who died in a car accident in 1997. This book, written by a good friend of his a few years later, is an odd sort of biography. It doesn't really outline his life or career, but rather looks at key aspects of Rich's faith and beliefs through his lyrics and writing. I grew up on Rich's music and it definitely has shaped the way I view God and His love; Rich's lyrics still can hit me sideways ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) sometimes. I've read this book before, but it had been several years. Taking time to read it during an especially busy and stressful time in my life was so beneficial. Smith does a great job of not portraying Rich as some kind of hero or saint. This book encourages readers not to follow Rich and his teachings, but rather Jesus and His, with Rich's lyrics as a tool that sometimes illuminate some aspect of them.

This is a niche kind of ⬇
1d
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) book that won't appeal to everyone, but for me it's an incredibly grounding and encouraging read.

BarbaraJean I had never heard of this book and now I want to track it down! An approach to Rich‘s life through his faith and his writing—pointing to Jesus above all—sounds like such a Rich Mullins approach. Rich Mullins‘ music was so meaningful for me in high school and college (still is) and I was devastated when he died. That year I had a campus radio show with a friend and the week Rich Mullins died, we just played his music for the full hour. 💔 1d

TheAromaofBooks @Desha - His music has always meant so much to me!! 10h
TheAromaofBooks @BarbaraJean - I definitely recommend picking this one up if you enjoy Rich's music. I was a teen when he passed, and it devastated our whole family. My parents and I got to see him in concert shortly before that, when he was traveling with Mitch McVicker. 10h

The fourth Dolittle book is set back in England. As usual (because of his generous nature) Dolittle is broke, so the pushmi-pullyu agrees to travel with a circus to raise some funds. So the entire household sets off together. This book was a lot about the importance of animal comfort and care and was definitely ahead of its time in calling out circuses and the like for their treatment of animals. There were some fun moments (Dolittle getting ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) arrested AGAIN 😂). The ending was quite abrupt, but it appears that book 5 is going to pick up right where this one left off.

I‘ve finished my May #DoubleSpin book.
I loved the Cerulean Sea duology. So when my nephew asked me if I‘d read book 1 in Klune‘s YA series, I happily agreed.
It‘s not on the same level as Cerulean but it still had great moments that made me feel the story. I laughed and I felt the characters‘ pain and sadness.
My nephew LOVED it btw. 🏳️‍🌈
