Lee Miller: A Woman's War | Hilary Roberts

Pickpick

My sister has gotten me into photography books lately and she told me about Lee Miller, so naturally I had to grab all the Lee Miller books from the library 😆🤓. Man, what an interesting life she led! She worked as an American photojournalist in Europe during WWII and was the first woman allowed to enter a combat zone. I highly recommend this for photography lovers and WWII buffs. Looking forward to learning more about her. 5⭐️

I have become obsessed with Frida Kahlo over the past year and have been slowly working my way through my library‘s collection. This book is 150 pages of letters Frida wrote to various people between 1924 and 1953. She and Diego Rivera were truly one of a kind. Her pain as well as her passion comes out in each page. Chipper approves! 5⭐️

I‘m finally getting back into my SVH reading. I had to skip ahead a few books while waiting to get this from amazon so it‘s just been staring at me for the last 3 months. This has to be one of the most boring miniseries in SVH, all about the twins helping Bruce‘s parents to get back together. Hilarity ensues, as astrology-obsessed Jess explains that Mercury is in retrograde so that‘s why she is suddenly so clumsy and accident prone. 3⭐️

MrBook Great review! Reminds me of my #Coale. 😻😻😻 5y

I love the artwork for this series, and while I still want to find out what happens in volume 5, this volume was just okay to me. Each volume gets a little more confusing, although they did explain a few things in this one. Onward to volume 5! 3⭐️

I love Dame Agatha and this has been on my TBR for awhile. It sucked me in from chapter one and I finished it in a few hours because I had to know what happened! I really enjoyed this one and I‘m going to watch the movie tomorrow. Highly recommended for fans of murder mysteries and a quick read. 5⭐️

As a huge Anne of Green Gables fan, I‘ve been eager to read this since I first heard about it. It opens with Marilla at age 13, & spans through to the point where she and Matthew decide to adopt an orphan. It also fills in the gaps of her relationship with John Blythe. I absolutely loved this, with the minor exception of Marilla being an abolitionist. It just doesn‘t fit in with her character in AOGG. Still, highly recommended for Anne fans. 4.5⭐️

I was supposed to send the #StuffedStockingSwap on Saturday but my hubby had to work. It‘s finally going out this morning, many apologies! It should get there in time. Also going out today is my #Nightmare4Christmas swap and the next #Horrorpost book to @Ashley_Nicoletto - a thousand apologies for being late, it‘s been ready to go for two weeks! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Sigh.

I‘ve never seen this movie but have always heard it touted as the scariest movie of all time. I had high expectations going into the book. I was quite disturbed the first 25% or so, and even though it was quite disturbing throughout, it didn‘t scare me as much as I thought it would. Overall, I‘d give this 4⭐️. There was one thing that really bothered me (see below👇🏻for spoilers), but it was still a compelling read and I‘d recommend it.

#horror

JenlovesJT47 It really annoyed me how through almost the entire novel, the priest had a hard time believing she was possessed. I was further highly irritated by the epilogue where her mother stated she wasn‘t sure she believed in the devil. Really?? After all the shit you just experienced? You cray cray. Rant over. 😆 5y
Joy0201 See, I always kind of saw that as that old quote, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing people he wasn‘t real. I‘m paraphrasing. 5y

JenlovesJT47 @Joy0201 hmm 🤔 you‘re right, didn‘t think of it that way!! 5y
callielafleur @Joy0201 @JenlovesJT47 I love this interpretation! My feeling with Karras was that his lack of belief in the possession was correlated to his loss of Faith, but your take is awesome. 5y
JenlovesJT47 @callielafleur yeah I thought about that with Karass and think it‘s very plausible, but I still don‘t see how it took him almost 95% of the book to get there. I can see him disbelieving for awhile but not to that extent. Just my opinion. ☺️ 5y
