This is a good book once you get past the beginning where it was slow to start but once it did it was a page turner. Set in New Orleans post Katrina we have evil and magical cats and a mix of characters that are interesting and engaging.

“Dear Mary Crawford,
As one of your warmest admirers, I am always so sorry when you find yourself shut out from Mansfield ... Your morality can hardly be in question, ... you did try to bring [Edmund] round with your saucy smile, but unfortunately on that occasion it only made things worse.“
😂
I love Maggie Lane's tongue-in-cheek analysis! I've never found Mary's fate disappointing, but Lane makes some excellent points. Each essay is superb!

Playing catch up on prompts today.
This book came to mind as a friend was just asking me about it, attracted (as I was) to its setting on The Big Island. The setting & Kona vibe the author captured were the only things I really enjoyed about this one—I found the story not as dark & twisty as I wanted & the characters annoying. It was disappointing overall.

I was very disappointed in these #BOTM selections and The Night Tiger not pictured!

I usually like her books but did not care for this one!! #disappointing #marchmadness @Eggs
I had high hopes for this book but it was a little #disappointing. It was touted as a great feminist novel, and it started strongly, with humorous attacks on the diet and beauty industries, but a poorly developed sub-plot in the second half, and a move toward almost misandry, suggests the author is not yet ready to execute the Great Feminist Novel.

The book had a lot of life lesson to teach but the prose was lacking.
Where to begin?
Toru Watanabe, in his late 30s, hears the Beatles song and transports himself to college days. I could relate to the nostalgia of that - so, a nice premise to start with, but the story was #disappointing. A coming-of-Age story with the complexities of loss, obsession, abuse, suicide, and casual sex - perhaps more relevant for younger adult readers. But I needed more resolution and was left adrift.
