I loved loved loved boarding school books, and this was the best, full of memorable situations and details. The Ice Cream cone costumes! The bunk beds! I can't be too sorry Nordstrom didn't write anything else, since she edited so many classic children's books.

Other fun books: Little Men, Witch Week, Apples Every Day (more YA), A Little Princess.

BarbaraBB Lots of days left in July to fill that empty calendar 🤍. I‘d recommend 4mo
bookandbedandtea @BarbaraBB I LOVED The Passengers! Marrs is one of my favorite authors. I might reread that one just because I liked it so much, maybe it will be the kickstart I need! 🧡 4mo
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau I'm not a fan of my lack of ability to focus- or care- about whatever books I've tried to read recently. 😭 4mo
BarbaraBB Or you can try this one if you haven‘t already. It‘s just as good 4mo
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea I Hate when that happens! I've unfairly tossed aside many books over the years bc of that mood 😣 The last time I felt like that I bought a crossword puzzle book and did crosswords for a couple of months 4mo

Thirteen-year-old Nikki Roberts hears a distress call on CB radio from 2 young children, 1 injured, who are stuck in a forest fire. With the added annoyance of poachers who also try to trap Nikki and her horse, can Nikki get them all to safety?

This is the 3rd year in a row I‘ve experienced a reading slump in late spring/early summer. This year was better. I DID read every month. I finished 4 books in June, even though none of them spoke to me enough to be worth highlighting for #12Booksof2023. But I clearly need to be more intentional about my reading at this time of year. Does this happen to any of you? Do you have suggestions for me about staving off these expected slumps?

AnnR I think sometimes a reader just has to go with a book slump. Sometimes I reread a favorite children's book or something light. Other times I just take a break and watch movies or a favorite TV series instead of reading. 10mo
Billypar I just checked my Goodreads, and it looks like I'm currently in my longest stretch of the year without a 5 star read (last one was November 6th). Still plenty of 4-star reads though. I think I'm just too easily pleased, but if it goes on much longer I would seek out something more out of the ordinary with a bold style or unique story. 10mo
dabbe I find I need something really easy and lighthearted to get back in the serious reading mode. That's when I turn to my PEANUTS and MUTTS comic books. I feel the book in my hands, I can get through (and enjoy) each book easily, and it usually spurs me to dive deeper. 💙🖤💙 10mo
IndoorDame @dabbe I do like the lighthearted idea. Peanuts seems like a wonderful break between more serious reading! 10mo

@AllDebooks @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

📖 I don't really read seasonally. It depends on my mood
📖 Historical, mysteries, and fantasy
📖 No, but we do watch a lot of A Christmas Carol adaptations!
📖 The Tailor of Gloucester by Beatrix Potter - we also watch the TV adaptation every year (available on DVD)

Lucy and the Green Man | Linda Newbery

Pickpick

This is a delightful little book that is perfect for pagan families and anyone who loves green spaces, growing things. Lucy‘s grandfather tells her the story of Lob, the ancient ‘Green Man‘; she learns to garden and has a deep respect for nature. She learns that he is never far, but always drawn to the wild places. There are also lessons about not trying to control nature; death and rebirth. Magic can be found everywhere, if you look for it.

JenniferEgnor The Green Man is an ancient story spanning centuries, and the world. It is found in the Arthurian legends, Robin Hood, the pagan celebrations of the wheel of the year, the solstices, the equinoxes. You will find his face on many old English pubs, churches, homes, and especially, gardens. The Green Man has a lesson to teach all of us. 12mo

(Shown: a photo I took in Bonneau Ferry). Even if you haven‘t seen Lob, you‘ll probably see a Green Man, if you look, or sometimes a Green Woman. They‘re masked or caped or hooded in leaves. You might see one carved in a church doorway, looking out at you from stems and leaves of stone. They‘re everywhere. You might find one on a pub sign, or catch a glimpse of a face in the trees. You‘ll quite often meet them in gardens, of course; they like⬇️

JenniferEgnor gardens. Some are majestic, some are for friendly; some are stern, others mischievous. But each one has something of Lob about it. If you come across one, try looking at it sideways, out of the corner of your eye. It might be watching you back. They often do. And next time you‘re in a wood or a garden, or near a tree, or a hedge, be alert for rustlings and scritchlings, and scufflings. Is that Lob? Is he there? Maybe he isn‘t. Maybe he is. 12mo
JenniferEgnor The photo: is it the Green Man? Is it pareidolia? Or is it both? You decide. 12mo
