This is a page anchor. It holds your book open and allows you to easily move your pages back and forth. I have seen other things similar but none are still made. And this thing is $$$. So I don‘t have one.

I hope to get into my metal shop this winter and see if I can‘t creat something similar. With the arthritis in my ha da sometimes it‘s hard to hold my book open. #ergolitsy

Larkken I used a cookbook stand when taking notes or translating text, but this looks way nicer!! 6y

LibrarianRyan @Larkken I do that at a desk or stand but is a bit uncomfortable on the couch. This little thing is $$$ so I won‘t be trying one any time soon. 6y

LibrarianRyan I have an original Gimble (the first 2). I like it but it‘s complicated to use and doesn‘t work on all books. It used to come in 2 sizes, Hard cover and paperback. The ones pictured are resizeable. It creates a lump on the back of the book that‘s a pain in reading at a desk, a stand etc. the last one is NO help of you have arthritis because you are still putting pressure on the thumb knuckle. 6y

REPollock @RaimeyGallant it‘s not inexpensive, true. I got a pinched nerve during grad school and I HAD to keep up with my reading so I splurged and wrote it off my taxes as a school expense. So glad I got it bc it‘s so helpful with posture and PT and etc. 6y

Post 4/4: Here's the underside view of my rigging for tablet/e-reader holders. I had been planning to use butterfly clips, but my mom had these plastic clamps lying around, and they're so much easier to use. I clamped all but about thirty pages to the piece of wood, which makes it easier to flip pages with the two paperclips as pictured. I did make a larger holder for trade paperbacks, but it was too heavy. Click #ErgoLitsy to see the other pics.

Post 3/4: Though there are gadgets for holding books word-side down, I thought they were either too expensive or cumbersome or simply not available for purchase anymore/where I live. I decided to jigsaw a thin piece of wood & clamp a book to it. It works well at the mass market paperback size. Notice how Bruce can multitask while he reads. Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare That's ace. Just ordered one. Love the paperback hack as well. Would building a narrow pocket at each end with strips of perspex (so you can read through them) work? Bit of string down the centre of the spine to hold it to the board. To turn a page, you slide it out from the pocket on the right and insert into pocket on left 6y

Post 1/4: Got some difficult news from my chiro last week. Not only have I been exercising/stretching, but I've also been looking at gadgets that will help me read with my neck in a safe position. I got this tablet reader for $20 (link, brand, store in comments). Here, you can see the bear I painted when I was 20 enjoying Moriarty on my kobo. RaimeyGallant Here's the manufacturer's link: https://kikkerland.com/products/gooseneck-tablet-holder I bought my unit at Chapters Indigo in Winnipeg, but this unit and others like it are available online. The clamp is super heavy duty, so it's easy to move around, but them's the breaks I guess. 6y

Emilymdxn I‘ve had access troubles with reading a lot too, tho probably with different requirements from you - my hands just can‘t hold a book reliably a lot of the time. I listen to audiobooks a huge amount and find it so freeing not to have to touch or hold anything. Audiobooks aren‘t for everyone I know, it‘s an idea to consider! 6y

Kaye This won‘t help with your book- holding problem , although I definitely think an ereader would be a bit easier to hold than a heavier book. I have arthritis in my neck and went to therapy for quite awhile for it. Sadly it did nothing to improve it. I bought a neck massager type device in a u- shape. Fits around the back and sides of my neck and vibrates plus heats if you want that. It‘s done more good than all the therapy. Good luck. ♥️ 6y
