MAY 5 PROMPT: INCUNABULUM

Here‘s my offering of #incunabulum for today‘s prompt in the #OldCoolBooks photo #challenge. These are photos I purloined (Shhhhh!!) 😬 from the Web of the newly-discovered Dead Sea Scrolls that are currently on exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science #dmns. Oh HOW I wish I were up to going in person; the museum is just over an hour from my home! Alas, we can obsess over the pics together.

Linsy I missed it when it came here, but I so wanted to go as well!! 😍 7y

No #incunabulum lying about so since my current read features monks working in a scriptorium, I went with that.
Still enjoying the tagged book, although monks' ideas about women are not so nice.😒

Incunabula are books from the early years of printing (pre-1501). Who else could I pick other than the inventor of movable type?

I had to buy this little plastic Gutenberg bust for my library when I toured the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. 😂😂

An #incunabulum is a book published before 1501 and since I unfortunately do not own anything so old, here is a picture of page from one with a lovely double tailed mermaid.

An incunabulum is a book printed before 1501 so there's no way I have that. This book on my #TBR is about four Princeton seniors trying to solve a mystery contained in the (real) Hypnerotomachia Poliphili (The Dream of Poliphilus) a incunabulum published in Venice in 1499. (The illustration is from that text--thanks Wikipedia!) The reviews on Litsy are mixed so who knows if/when I'll actually get around to reading it.😬

DebinHawaii In case you are interested in this incunable: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnerotomachia_Poliphili 7y
Andrew65 I loved this one! 7y

jmtrivera I read it a long time ago and I liked it, but I don't remember much anymore. 7y

I can't say I have anything in my house that is old enough to qualify as #incunabulum. So I present you with History.com's 7 things you may not know about the Gutenberg Bible: http://www.history.com/news/7-things-you-may-not-know-about-the-gutenberg-bible

Proof that cats will be cats, even on #incunabulum. 😹 A researcher found these inky paw prints on a Croatian manuscript from 1445. #oldcoolbooks #KAL

Cathythoughts That‘s amazing 😻 7y
LiteraryinPA That‘s adorable! 7y
tournevis There are similar prints on many Irish and French manuscripts, as well as on Roman era roof tiles! 7y

#OldCoolBooks #day5 #Incunabulum One of my biggest dreams is to visit the Bodleian Library in Oxford. It has one of the biggest collections of incunabulum in the world, including originals of the Gutenberg Bible & many other beautifully illuminated manuscripts. Can you imagine what it smells like in any one of their reading rooms? Or in the stacks? It‘s a bibliophiles wet dream!😍📖😍📖😍📖😍

Kindredanne It is the most amazing & beautiful place in the world!!!! That is where I saw the bible that Anne Boleyn held before she was beheaded. It was at the top of my bucket list for libraries and it didn‘t disappoint!!!! 7y

Ok, so I don‘t actually own this, but I saw it at an exhibition in the Victorian State Library last October. That kind of counts doesn‘t it? 😁

The arrow above points to a Cuneiform tablet, written around c3400BCE. The tablet records taxes paid in sheep & goats! 👏😁

Linsy Totally! I love this!! 💗 7y
