Just in time before this book is up against The Trees in the #Tob22 I finished it. And I like it a lot more than I thought I would. Miranda is a theater director who suffers chronic pains and lives on painkillers. When she meets three weird men in a bar, all‘s well. No, not really. The book becomes a mess after that but I liked it.
No match for The Trees though, if you‘d ask me!

kwmg40 I just finished this one and liked it a lot too. It's too bad it's up against the Trees, as I don't think it has much of a chance against it. 3y

When a Crocodile Eats the Sun: A Memoir of Africa | Peter Godwin

This book hooked me from page one! Although it was published in the early aughts and covers mostly the years between 1990-2001 it‘s nonetheless timely & compelling. A blend of personal memoir mixed with the rough political history of #Zimbabwe, it‘s people & leaders, I couldn‘t turn the pages fast enough. So much corruption, danger, turmoil and even beauty are deftly described and detailed in this personal narrative. Easily 5 stars for me.

Cinfhen I LOVED this book, but I read it in print and it was VERY CHALLENGING 3y

jenniferw88 @Cinfhen I agree with the challenging part, but I don't think print would have helped me either! I just wasn't invested enough in the characters, whereas I am with this one

The Priory of the Orange Tree

Cortg I tried the audio a few years ago and couldn‘t focus with the heavy dialect. I found a used print copy and I‘m looking forward to it. I know it‘ll be a challenge but I “think” it‘s my kind of book, so we‘ll see! 🤞🏼 3y

Oh do I wish I could visit Coopers Chase! Just as good as the first in the series, and the audiobook continues to be fantastically narrated. When do we get a 3rd book? Hoping this gets a TV adaptation at some point too!

alisiakae @Cinfhen yes, everyone else is covid free! I'm still quarantined in the guest bedroom for another few days, although I am emerging masked while everyone is out of the house today. Well, I finished up rereading this with my Dad (his 1st read), and we agree that having Tracey narrate part of the #audiobook disrupts the flow of listening to what would otherwise be one of our favorites. However, his anecdotes are sharp as ever, and this was definitely more enjoyable than his first diary collection (Theft by Finding ⬇️).

Cinfhen I had pre-ordered this collection but returned it when I saw it wasn‘t him narrating. I totally agree, it just wasn‘t the same. I‘m still hoping to borrow one day. Glad dad enjoyed. 3y

Megabooks @Cinfhen will write soon. Just exhausted from today. Poor Molly was in the crate for ten hours 😢. Dad was such a trouper driving and walking these huge distances and spending two hours in the exam room and another hour going to another building for bloodwork. Thirteen tubes!! Doctor was fantastic!! I really feel like I‘m in great hands! 👍🏻👍🏻 3y
