rachmones (rahch-MUN-ness) - Compassion, fellow feeling, empathy, pity. "The Rachmones" would also make a very nice name for a sensitive Yiddish punk rock group.

schmo (shmo) - A hapless sucker, an ordinary jerk.
Slightly pejorative, but it could be worse (e.g., could be putz or schmuck).
It took me a couple of chapters to get into this one. I watched Star Trek when I was younger, and I've read a decent amount of sci-fi (Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury, Tchaikovsky, PK Dick, Adams, Eggers, Chiang---TheStorygraph says I've read 101 sci-fi books), but I'm not really a sci-fi fan, per se. I do not cosplay, for example. However, I'm glad I persevered because this novel is funny, smart, and emotionally truthful.
Camille and Silo say that my top priority this afternoon is sitting still and finishing my book. If I don't fall asleep under the warmth and purring of two cats.
The humour might not work for everyone but I thought it was a very enjoyable story. 🐖
I finally got into the tagged book and all I want to do is read it, but instead I have to read and give feedback on informational articles written by 5th graders. I mean, they're awesome 5th graders, but it's not really the same. Photo of yesterday's sunset and waxing moon to illustrate my wistfulness.
1. Yes, in high school and I immediately regretted it and felt horrible. He didn't want to be my friend after that, but we talked it out eventually.
2. “Fool“ by Christopher Moore. I remember laughing out loud reading this book.

1. My officemates and I play all kinds of practical jokes on each other. We have saran wrapped desks, changed languages and screen orientation on computers, and we have rubber band and nerf gun wars. One person even did the stapler in the jello from The Office.
2. Pocket from Fool by Christopher Moore immediately came to mind when I saw this prompt. What a great character and book.
Happy Tuesday!

This book came out over 10 years ago and I don't think my students would know who Madeline was, so they wouldn't get the parody. But I think they would love this book. The pages are clearly well loved (most of my posts are about library books from Timberland Regional, our my school library).
