#Pembeelittens It's time for #JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong discussion of Jane and the Canterbury Tale! This Jane Austen Mysteries Book Club is read at your own pace and FULL OF SPOILERS. We're counting down to the Release of Jane and the Final Mystery. If you haven't read the book, pop in anytime. Or tag me in your post to make sure I see your answers.

Mine are in the comments.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 1️⃣ Card game showing just how awful Curzon Fiske was and the reveal/confrontation with Murderer.
2️⃣ I really loved the relationship between Edward and Jane in this one. It's grown since we were last at Godmersham in Jane and the Genius of the Place.
3️⃣ Loved all the references to Pride and Prejudice.

Crinoline_Laphroaig And: "It was a wonder all three did not collide upon the path over the Downs in the dead of night, coming or going."

"Can‘t go shooting one‘s guests whenever they put a foot wrong, what? Very bad ton."

“Must you always complicate matters, Jane, with questions that are entirely unanswerable?”

⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ Mr Moore would probably bore me so much I'd struggle to stay awake. Which would be considered rude (heaven forfend)so I'd say Mrs Thane. No way you'd fall asleep with her screeching.⬇️ 1y

Crinoline_Laphroaig 5️⃣ Walk the Pilgrims Way. With 2 weeks that's 14km/8.5 miles a day. I think I could do that. But no camping! Would book a comfy room for each night. And stop in Chawton to visit Jane Austens House, The Big House and finish at Cassandra's Cup for tea.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 6️⃣ I googled the difference between tilbury and perch phaeton.

And while I knew what a young lady being out meant didn't know A gentleman being out "is one who has met a rival at twenty paces on a duelling ground,"

Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣ While looking for background info at Stephanie Barron and Austenprose blogs I found out this was almost the last Jane Austen Mystery! Original publisher did want to continue but happily 3 years later the 12th Jane Austen Mystery was published

Crinoline_Laphroaig Speaking of #JaneandtheTwelveDaysofChristmas it's a favorite of mine. I usually read over the 12 days of Christmas. I'm planning something a bit different for July. Will post that next week.

Chapter 33: A lot happens in this chapter. Anne receives a letter from Mrs FW telling her of Eliza‘s marriage & current honeymoon in Scotland. It hurts Anne, but she has a “thank you, next” moment about their relationship & what Eliza brought her & tells Mrs. FW to give Eliza her best & that she would welcome a letter when she has time.😢Anne visits Lady C at the Dowager house & endures a few ⬇️

DebinHawaii …comments about the state of her hair before letting Lady C. Know she is going to Pemberley (she‘s invited herself). Then, she broaches an idea that she & Mr. Colt had about a school for the tenant children. Anne handles Lady C pretty masterfully with how she asks for help in finding a teacher (within the village or out—am I hoping too much that there‘s a CERTAIN teacher that might be available? Probably…) So, after some more disapproval & more⬇️ 2y
DebinHawaii …comments on Anne‘s hair & life choices, her mother seems onboard. Anne travels to Pemberley & catches the Darcy‘s by surprise with the “important matter” she‘d like to discuss… turns out that rather than having Risings go to a distant cousin, she‘d like to name the Darcy‘s 2nd son, Baby George, as her heir! For a 2nd son, this is a huge boon (he will have an estate & not have to ‘“scrabble”) & better that although he will now be George Darcy ⬇️ 2y
DebinHawaii …de Bourgh, he will remain with his family & visit annually once he is old enough. Lizzy is more accepting than Darcy is to this offer but they agree. Lizzy remarks to Anne that “people surprise me but rarely” & Anne has done it…👑

What did you think of this chapter? Anne has grown a lot a lot. Did she make good decisions & handle herself well? Who will the new teacher be? We are nearly the end, what do you think or hope might happen?

kspenmoll I really felt good about how Anne was making good decisions about her estate & managed her emotions/ even her disappointment regarding Eliza accepting marriage as inevitable… Eliza‘s situation (no independent money) drive home just how narrow women‘s choices were then. 2y
DebinHawaii @kspenmoll I agree completely! Eliza made the best decision she could for herself given those narrow choices & I think Anne understood that even as much as it hurt her. 2y

I went into the room indicated, but then drew back, thinking that I had entered a library or store-room by mistake, for the floor was littered with books which seemed to have overflowed from the tall shelves which lined three of the walls

(I didn‘t think I would have particularly have enjoyed having tea with Mrs Napier and Miss Clovis, but that library though…)

#wanderingthroughwutheringheights #chapter33 #pembeelittens Cathy and Hareton continue to get closer. Hareton actually makes Cathy think about her actions. H has his revenge. He has gotten both E and Hindley‘s inheritance but he is force to look at Cathy and Hareton each day. All he see in C in their faces and feels a “change”. I think this change is guilt, sadness, and depression as his life‘s goal is complete and it was so pointless.

Crinoline_Laphroaig So pointless. 3y
