Some books I will continue and some I will attempt in October. No promises. 😏

tpixie @Aims42 @lil1inblue @TheBookHippie the bread and cheese have been great!! Taking aspirin for my clogged arteries! 😂 Hopefully walking counterbalances it! Interestingly they don‘t serve butter with their bread, you have to ask for it…. 2w
Aims42 @tpixie Calories don‘t count while on vacation so you enjoy that bread & cheese guilt free! But do keep taking your aspirin 😊 I love seeing your pics, keep posting!! 2w

This may be my most controversial post.
I prayed to the book gods with the upmost of respect while making my Travel Les Mis book.
I don‘t want to get behind further, & just can‘t carry the full book on vacation.
This book was waiting in the wild to be used & loved.
With an X-Acto blade I cut the cover, several of the pages, & the appendix in the back. Now Les MIs can return to France, but in the beautiful countryside

Ruthiella At one point in my life I would have been horrified but now-do what you need to do. 😅 Just recycle ♻️ the pages if you can. (edited) 3w
tpixie @Ruthiella Yes! It was a very difficult decision. I felt like the boy who was taking advantage of the tree in The Giving Tree. I did give the book thanks. I‘ll keep the book & pages until I‘m done reading the book, and then I may do some sort of artwork craft in celebration. 💛📒💛 3w
dabbe It will now be the best-loved-well-worn book. Have a lovely vacay, too! 💙🤍♥️ 3w

tpixie @dabbe yes! Thx & Thx! 💙🤍❤️ (edited) 3w
Gleefulreader I actually love this as a way to still enjoy the book and then to use it creatively when you are done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 3w
Cuilin Fabulous, bon voyage 🇫🇷 3w
tpixie @dabbe yes! I remember it as a young child an older friend told me that Books love to be marked in and Dog eared because that means they‘re well loved. And then I got older and started feeling bad about Dog earring and quit. So I thought of her today. 3w
tpixie @Gleefulreader it is the only way that I could think to do it so I could still underline and not get too far behind. I‘m trying not to read it on an e-book. 3w
tpixie @Cuilin merci! 3w

“You can try all you like you won‘t go in, I‘m not the daughter of a dog, I‘m the daughter of a wolf. There are six of you, what‘s that to me? You‘re men. Well, I‘m a woman. I‘m not afraid of you, not one bit”. Eponine- Les Miserable.

TheBookHippie Eponine is my FAVORITE of the whole book. 4w
Cuilin @TheBookHippie I love the name Eponine 🩷 Her and Gavroche are my favorites so far. 4w
lil1inblue @TheBookHippie She was always my favorite in the musical - I adore her in the book. ❤ 4w

Plugging along!
July 23 pg 671
The title of the book appears.
“les misérables - the wretched“
That always jumps out at me when I read!

All the discussion of slang in today's chapter reminded me of this article from 2019. It's not necessarily related to the book, but I found it interesting. My brain goes down weird rabbit holes sometimes. 🙃

TheBookHippie I‘m a rabbit hole queen! We were just talking about the French language at school with the teachers. 1mo
Cuilin Interesting. (It reminded me of Cockney rhyming slang.) I love disappearing down a rabbit hole and starting a new fixation. 🤦‍♀️ 1mo
lil1inblue @cuilin @thebookhippie I'm fascinated by the evolution and blending of languages, so anything that even borders on that will send me down the rabbit hole. 🙃 Slang origins can be particularly intriguing. 🤓 1mo

Interesting- in the same day I came upon the same French phrase!
“Entre chien et loup “ - literally between dog and wolf- it means evening.
I‘m reading the Languedoc Trilogy in advance to my trip to SE France ?? (Toulouse, Figeac, & Béduer) since the books are based in that area & Carcassonne.
This phrase is in Book 2- Sepulchre
I‘m lucky to travel, but these travels will make me even further behind on #ReadLesMis

tpixie I insist on reading the book itself & cannot imagine lugging this heavy book on the plane. Dare I buy a second book, tear out some pages, and take with me? Then copy over my notes? 😂 I guess I could actually do that with my ebook, just not as easily… 1mo
Cuilin 2009 I got to see the fireworks on Bastille day over the castle in Carcassone. It is a beautiful fully walled city. I hope you get to see it!! oh, I like the idea of using a secondhand book!! 1mo
dabbe I thought the same when going to Canada. I just couldn't lug the 5+ pound tome on the plane ... and then I got behind and just got caught back up. 😂 1mo

TheBookHippie Oh I‘d get a used copy and take it apart then put it back 🤣🤣🤣🙌🏼👀🫣 1mo
Lcsmcat There‘s a novel by that name, by Irene Némirovsky , but I don‘t know if it‘s been translated into English. It‘s not in the Litsy data base. 1mo
charl08 I've scanned pages from a travel guide before when I was only going to one area (and the book was a brick). Not sure if reading a photocopy would be worse than an e book though? 1mo
tpixie @Cuilin oh! What a unique experience! I bet that was magical 💙🤍❤️ 1mo
tpixie @dabbe yes! I‘m so behind!! 1mo
tpixie @Lcsmcat Oh! I‘ve read her Suite Française. Her personal story is fascinating. 1mo
tpixie @charl08 ohh that‘s an idea! I could copy it at work for free…. @TheBookHippie I did find one for 9.50 on Amazon. I‘m tempted… 1mo
Lcsmcat @tpixie Yes! That was my introduction to her. I then read everything I could find. My old library had a huge foreign language section so even works that hadn‘t yet been translated were available to me. 1mo
tpixie @Lcsmcat amazing! You really are fluent!! What a great library! 1mo
