#ThreeListThursday @dabbe #TLT

I scored better than last week, though not by much. There were so many great books in this group that spanned totally different genres. My favorites are (not in any order):

The Clan of the Cave Bear
Good Omens
Black Beauty
Emma
Matilda
The Hobbit
LOTR
Dune
The Pillars of the Earth

@Texreader @Librarybelle @Kshakal @BethM @Cupcake12

dabbe #woohooyou! What a list, too! Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
Librarybelle Thanks for the tag! I scored 31 and was happy to see some Jane Austen on the list. 2d

Tagging just a few (🤣) who've played before. And to the UK, why are Pratchett and Wilson so huge over there? 😍

BarkingMadRead I‘ve read 49! 3d
dabbe @BarkingMadRead #yahooyou!!! Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
Soubhiville Terry Pratchett should be popular everywhere! He‘s a favorite of mine. 3d
See All 59 Comments
Soubhiville I‘ve read 47, and I‘d say my favorites are LOTR, Terry Pratchett‘s, and Watership Down. 3d
dabbe @Soubhiville Good to know! I didn't get around to reading him for #AuthorAMonth, but he is now on my major radar thanks to you! 💙🩵💙 3d
dabbe @Soubhiville #woohooyou! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 3d
CogsOfEncouragement 43 for this one. So many good ones too. Some I‘ve enjoyed more than once. 3d
CSeydel I got 47. My favorites are probably Rebecca, A Christmas Carol, and Wind in the Willows 3d
CSeydel But Terry Pratchett‘s books are excellent also! He has a way of combining wordplay, satire and fantasy to hilarious effect (edited) 3d
TheSpineView Thanks for the tag! 😘💛🏷 3d

dabbe @TheSpineView YW! 😍 3d
Amiable Again with the Pratchett! 😬 Mine was 39 this week. “A Prayer for Owen Meany” is my favorite book. But I also loved “A Suitable Boy” and “A Town Called Alice.” 3d
dabbe @julesG He must be one of the best writers ever! Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @peaKnit No palm slapping allowed! 😘 I have a feeling my score will be right there in with yours. I don't think I read any from 50-100! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
dabbe @Amiable All 3 I haven't read but are on the TBR, thanks to you! I agree about Pratchett. I am totally missing something! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 3d
peaKnit Thank you!! I‘d have been in bigger trouble had Harry Potter not rescued me lol! Many on my TBR all the same:) 3d
Amor4Libros 13! 😅 Harry Potter helped me get to double digits 🤣 3d
Lesliereadsalot I read 36 thanks to taking two semesters of Russian novels in college, along with both 18th and 19th century British novels. I did love those Russian novels, long as they were! 3d
TheLudicReader 30. How can I even call myself a reader? 2d
BooksandCoffee4Me @TheLudicReader I feel the same way with 39! I‘m going to rationalize that as an English teacher, I had to read several of these repeatedly which left me with too little reading energy for the others. 😊 2d
Lynnsoprano 25 🙄 Mostly the English classics. I‘m hanging my head 2d
Librarybelle 31 for me. There are a few I am in the middle of, but still, ouch! 2d
dabbe @peaKnit I love how they linked the HP books separately here but only as one book (series) on the American Great Read. More bang for your buck on this list! 🤩 2d
dabbe @Amor4Libros Yay for HP! 😍 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @Lesliereadsalot I bow to your wow. I could NEVER had survived two semesters of Russian novels! 😱 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @TheLudicReader No talk like that, missy! 😘 You are the queen of contemporary literature, and there weren't so many of those on this list. And again, who puts MATILDA alongside WAR AND PEACE? Totally weird list! I bet I score right around where you did. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @BooksandCoffee4Me 🎯🩵🎯 Usually in my years of teaching English, I was lucky to read 15-20 completely new books all year! I'd constantly have to reread the ones I taught because I had to be ready for those smart kids who would ask me persnickety questions! 🤣😍🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
CSeydel It‘s a very odd list! 2d
dabbe @Lynnsoprano No hanging your lovely head! 😘 I know I'll score around the same! We just have more books for our TBR. Except I don't think I'll add all 30+ Pratchetts and Wilsons! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @Librarybelle I'll be ouchie right there with you! It's a quirky list, to say the least! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @CSeydel 🎯🩵🎯! 2d
rwmg 59 including those started but not finished (looking at you Gabriel García Márquez) and some I know I've read but cannot remember anything beyond the title. 2d
dabbe @rwmg W🤩WZA! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
Amor4Libros @TheLudicReader I got 13! 🤣🤣 2d
dabbe @Amor4Libros Way better than zero! Seriously, though, what a weird list! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! 2d
AnnCrystal Thank You For The Tag 🥳👍🏼📚💝. 2d
AnnCrystal 🤔😂 I've decided to whisper my total instead of shouting it out...1/100 · 1% 🧐🤔🤗.

I have some of these in my bookshelf waiting for me...and I have watched some as movies...

📚💝.
2d
AnnCrystal My three, must read someday: Harry Potter books, the Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, and The Christmas Carol ☺️📚💝. (edited) 2d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'm at 26 from this list. I hated better than the bottom half of the list. I do have others on my TBR, so it would be interesting to come back in a couple of years to see if I've done better. I really do need to read some Pratchett. Faves here are LOTR trilogy, HP & the Goblet of Fire, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. (I'm surprised by the last one as I'm not a big Sci-Fi fan, but it was accessible. ) 2d
tpixie Hmm 36% 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal YW! 😍 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal You are adorable! I say movie watching counts! It's sometimes hard for me to read a book after I've seen the movie, especially if it closely follows the novel. Thanks for playing and sharing! 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I don't think I read anything on the lower half of the list! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @melissajayne Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @tpixie We're close in our scores! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💜💜 2d
dabbe @AnnCrystal Especially A CHRISTMAS CAROL. I reread that one (and see a bunch of movie variations) every year during holiday season. 🎄 2d
Bklover 43! Thanks for the tag @dabbe 🩷 1d
dabbe @Bklover YW! 😍 1d
AnnCrystal @dabbe it is difficult to appreciate a movie that has been separated from the book it came from. I only really had a bit of trouble once, with the movie Valentine's. Tom Savage book version was so much better, although I did enjoy watching david boreanaz 😍😂.

🤩👍🏼💝. We always watch the Christmas Carol movies, every year we try to watch all the different versions that show on TV. Really must read the book! ☺️👍🏼📚🎬💖.

CSeydel 42 … I‘m exactly average 🤣 2mo
melissajayne 43 for me 2mo
rwmg 38, which I was surprised by. There were a couple that sounded vaguely familiar and which I might have seen on TV and forgotten about. 2mo
Amor4Libros 30…I thought it was going to be lower 😅 2mo
willaful Only 29 for me. I'm not that into the sort of movies that win Oscars, apparently. 2mo

AnnCrystal Thanks for the tag 🎬🥳💝. 2mo
TheLudicReader 42! I am exactly average, too, @CSeydel ! 2mo
kspenmoll 38 but now I want to see some of the older films. I mostly skip movies with war & too much violence- lingers in me too long 2mo
Amiable Oh, man, only 29 for me. I‘m not a big movie person (weird, I know). I did love “The King‘s Speech.” And also, how DO you solve a problem like Maria? 🧐😀 2mo
Cheryl_Russell 6, which is more than I thought I would get. 😂😂. Obviously not a big movie person. 😂🤣 2mo
shortsarahrose 40! But I minored in film studies in college and watched a lot of old musicals during the pandemic 💃 2mo
The_Penniless_Author Thanks for the tag! Only 36 - I really thought it would be higher. Favorites would have to be Casablanca, Godfather 1 and 2, and No Country for Old Men. 2mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Only 16. My tastes tend to run more pop-culture then critically acclaimed. Now, ask me about goofy sex comedies over the years, well, I've seen Porky's 100 times! 🤣 2mo
Read4life Only 19! I need one for sports movies. 😂😂 2mo
Bklover 35. Favorites would be Silence of the Lambs, Terms of Endearment, and Dances With Wolves. Oh, and Titanic. 2mo
CSeydel @TheLudicReader woohoo 🙌🏻 (edited) 2mo

dabbe @Amor4Libros Nice surprise, huh? 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @willaful I have a lot more that I want to watch! I haven't been into the later movies at all for some reason. The last one I saw in a movie theater was INSIDE OUT! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @Blueberry IKR? Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @nelsonmatt890 The books are ALWAYS better than the movies! 🤩🤣🤩 2mo
dabbe @AnnCrystal YW! 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @TheLudicReader You're in excellent company! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @kspenmoll Same here! Most of the movies I have seen from this list are the older ones, especially musicals and such. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @Amiable You're not weird at all! I haven't been inside a movie theater since INSIDE OUT came out! I love watching old movies, though. And double also, how do you catch a 🌥️ and pin it down? 🤔🤩🤗 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @Cheryl_Russell_BookNotes I haven't been lately, either! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @shortsarahrose I'm a sucker for older movies, especially film noir. Do you have a favorite? Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @The_Penniless_Author IKR? But then those first movies in the early 1930s, I was like 😳 Now I have a TBW list! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Or me with rom-coms or film noir! I haven't seen Porky's in ages ... time to revisit! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @Read4life Oh, I love sports movies! My faves are probably HOOSIERS (rip Gene Hackman 🥺), the original BRIAN'S SONG, and RUDY. What are yours? Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
dabbe @Bklover Wowza, what a list! You nailed some fab ones! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🍿❣️📽️ 2mo
Read4life Hoosiers is my top for sure!! I also love The Sandlot, Field of Dreams, Rudy, Miracle, oh I can go on and on!! Watching Hoosiers & The Replacements this weekend (Gene Hackman 💔) 2mo
shortsarahrose Film noir is good, but my heart belongs to mid-century film melodramas, especially anything from Douglas Sirk. Written on the Wind is my favorite, but All that Heaven Allows and Imitation of Life are also great. I also love anything with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Swing Time is my favorite of theirs (except for the black face - might be the only film I‘ve seen Astaire do black face in), but all of them are fun. 2mo
dabbe @Read4life I'm definitely rewatching HOOSIERS this weekend. Totally forgot about THE REPLACEMENTS, too! 🥺 2mo
dabbe @shortsarahrose I need to look more into mid-century films. And 🎯 to Astaire and Rogers! 🎶 2mo
tpixie @shortsarahrose @dabbe did you know that Fred sister was actually thought to be a better dancer? I didn‘t even know he had a sister!! Until I read 2mo

Impossible to resist a “greatest books” list.

I‘ve read 56 of the 100 books which puts me, at the moment, at #20 on the list.

Favorites include the tagged book—love it and The Fellowship of the Rings—as well as I Want My Hat Back (love Klassen), American Born Chinese, and The Graveyard Book.

Books I would add: The Lightning Thief (first Percy Jackson), Stuck (Oliver Jeffers), & The Monster at the End of this Book.

So many I haven't heard of; quite a few I now want to read. The three in the pic above are my favorites that did NOT make the list. As some Littens have stated, the list was interesting to say the least. Even the BBC states that it “also has its limitations and biases“ and that “the list is not designed as a fait accompli, but rather as an inspiration for further discovery and debate.“ ⬇️

dabbe The BBC article was published in 2023, so it is quite recent. For more information or to tell them your thoughts about the list, visit this link:

DogMomIrene 😲They didn‘t include Where the Red Fern Grows? One of my English teacher friends and I would hand that book out to incoming 6th graders and explain what a seminal work it is, even all these years later. 4mo
dabbe @DogMomIrene IKR? My 4th grade teacher read it to us after recess. None of us knew how it would end--including her. We all sobbed at the ending! 🤩😂🤩 4mo
DogMomIrene @dabbe Similar experience, except my 3rd grade teacher didn‘t finish the book before summer and then we moved across country😲 I couldn‘t remember the title so I would meticulously scan every Scholastic book fair table until I eventually found the cover. This was a fun one, as someone who now also teaches children's literature.

My favorites:
- Matilda by Roald Dahl
- The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
- The Arrival by Shaun Tan (though I wouldn't consider this a children's book!)

Ones I think should have been included:
- When You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff
- Sisters by Raina Telgemeier
- Holes by Louis Sachar
